I cannot say enough good things about this place. I brought my dog in to them after he had been viciously attacked by another dog. Obviously I didn't have an appointment but they graciously received him and explained that they had appointments but would check if they could squeeze him in. They were able to work with me to figure out a plan B of where I could take my dog if they didn't have any availability. Fortunately, they were able to accept him and work on him right away. At one point they had every single provider there working to try to save my dog. In addition, the people who work there were so kind and compassionate. (Shoutout to the front desk!) I was a mess, covered in my dog's blood, visibly traumatized and could not stop shaking. They brought me water and made sure that I was ok. After my dog was able to come home they even called me to check on him. I've never had that from any other vet in the 14 years I've been a pet owner. It was a great experience and I'm happy to recommend them. read more

Bought out by a mega corporation. It's pretty crappy now. The main and best vet is gone. You can't get anyone on the phone when you call and don't get the impression they are good with animals even. Lots of convenient options for buying food and medicine if that's what you're looking for. But for medical care not so much. Expect to get nickel and dimed for everything. The cost for my golden retriever's routine Cytopoint injection at Gresham Animal Hospital suddenly increased from around $170 to $262, nearly $100 more than what I paid for the same service just a couple of months ago. Cooper has been receiving this treatment every 4 to 6 weeks for over two years to manage severe seasonal allergies, so this is not a new or unexpected service. When I reached out thinking the bill may have been an error, I was told the price had simply gone up and the charge was correct. My biggest frustration is the lack of communication. For a loyal, repeat client receiving the same ongoing treatment this frequently, a drastic price increase should have been clearly communicated before the appointment, not discovered after being charged. Unfortunately, Gresham Animal Hospital has gone significantly downhill since the sale of the practice and the departure of Dr. Chris. Because of this experience, I will be looking for a more affordable and transparent option for Cooper's ongoing allergy care. read more

Great people! Dr Powers has been my vet since 1990! But in 1965 I was 4 years old and my dawg Toto was sick we took him to Dr Powers Father! A vet also, in the same location but then it was a big house not a big fancy office/hospital! Dr powers was at companion then Stark Street Animal Clinic for years! I've been a client of this hospital for 30 years. When Dr. Chris was our veterinarian, we had the best experiences in the treatment of my pets through the years. It was a very personalized and caring approach. Once he left, things became much different. You can rarely, if ever, get someone to answer the phone, and voices messages and text are not returned timely. Very frustrating and seems that is consistent wkth other teviews. I had appointment today to have a tooth pulled on one of my dogs, who is very timid. Instructed to bring him in between 7:30-8:30am. Checked him in 8am. Was told Dr. would get back to us how things went no later than 3pm. No word back until close to 4pm text saying he's just going in for the procedure. Checked him in 8 hours before a simple procedure with no food or water since night before. We are going to find another vet, as we won't be back. read more

Still, no complaints about the actual service when you're in the building. But I tried several times to get a person on the phone, without success. I'm in the middle of finalizing new pet insurance. They're asking for the email address for Gresham Animal Hospital. I finally left a message, asking for their email address and leaving my number. If they replied, it would be a 30 second or less return phone call. It's been over 45 minutes. Gresham Animal Hospital has not returned my phone call. It's as if I used one of those child play phones. Every 3 minutes I've had to tap the screen on my new pet insurance application. For 45+ minutes. I have other things to do, like cancel my old pet insurance before they charge me, get the dog out before the rain, gym before Monday night football. Instead I'm sitting here in stasis. If it weren't for the fact that I would have to tap my tablet very 2 minutes to keep my data from possibly disappearing and having to do the process all over again, I could have driven there more quickly. I took my dog here to get established for care, and i feel Dr. Van (I believe was her name) was very unprofessional with us and our pet. We made an appointment for 4:00pm and weren't seen until 4:44pm with no apology for the extended wait. When she finally did come in, she did not introduce herself to my pet or even attempt to build any sort of rapport with him, even though he was visibly anxious to be there, as I feel most animals are when they are in a new environment--especially the vet. Our main reason for the visit was that my dog had been limping, and when she attempted to exam him he was very nervous to have her touch him. She then said "Stop doing that.... you're so weird." when she was crouched down while we tried to hold him for the exam and he turned around to sniff and lick her face. Which is something he does to my partner and I all the time and a very normal thing for a pet to do. Her tone did not seem in a joking manner, but regardless I think that was a rude thing to say, especially in front of us and when he was just being friendly. She also wrote in the exam notes that there was no "visible limp" when it was very apparent he was favoring one leg over the other when he walked around. Which is invalidating to our very real concern for our pet's health. She then said "We are gonna sedate you." when he wouldn't settle for the exam. That is something she could have asked us as the owners if that's something we are okay with before telling us that's what was going to be done. When all was said and done, she said "Okay i'm going to go write down the dosage of the medication." and then left the room. Which we assumed that meant she was going to come back, especially because she did not say goodbye, or "nice to meet you and your animal," or, "we will see you again on xxx appointment day." We then waited 10-15 more minutes in the room for her to come back until finally one the front desk people came to get us from the room and gave us our paperwork. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day or that was just her affect, but I think it's unprofessional and not very comforting when a vet cannot come into the room and be respectful. Overall, I was not impressed with the veterinarian that saw us and she was extremely in-compassionate. read more

My first time visiting was not good. I didn't feel like anyone was trying to listen and help me with my situation, but rather to get me out the door since it was obvious they were already behind schedule at 11am. My appointment was at least 20 minutes late, but only lasted 10 minutes, and in that time, they either forgot which animal they were working with, or never knew in the first place because they kept referring to my female cat named Julie as he/him/his. I didn't feel like anything more than a customer in a grocery store check out line. We won't be back. read more

Very dissatisfied with my pet care and with the responsiveness of the clinic staff. Never again. I believe this clinic is having significant problems in their organization. So, we went here today to have our dog do his first exam and then get some pain meds because he is old, and has arthritis. They asked for a deposit 84 dollars, as many vets do here in the PDX, then when we went in, it was so much like a doctors office it was painful, we waited almost 50 minutes past our original appt time, the vet was more concerned about pushing brand named meds and getting extra money. They refused to give more than a 30 day prescription, without doing 220 dollars worth of blood work, and wanted even more testing if I was willing, prices not stated. She pushed name brand meds that she was obviously paid to push because there were displays with the named brand meds advertised. When we checked out and one med prescribed was one pill for 87 dollars, and then another 30 day prescription was 150, I was flabbergasted. The front desk staff was kind and seemed to understand the issues. They do have free coffee and water, but otherwise, we will not be back, I won't trust a vets office that focuses more on name brand meds for their own benefits, then a generic for the benefit of their people. read more

I've been a customer for years, and recently moved to a new vet clinic. They rarely answer the phone. It takes hours, sometimes days for someone to return the call. I understand things can get busy, but basic courtesy and communication are non-negotiable--especially when people are calling about the health and well-being of their pets. My husbands parents went here back in the 80s and we did in the 90s. Then moved further out for about 25 years. Moving back closer to Gresham we moved our fur babies back here. Not much had changed. HOWEVER they have now apparently sold out to a large corporation. Appointments are hard to get. Weeks out. Can't reach anyone directly. Have to wait for them to call back a day later. Or not at all. Dog was having itching: vet we had never seen said food allergies and put her on expensive special diet. Told me to go to pet store to get wet to mix with the kibble as they don't carry the science diet z/d wet. Only to find its prescription. And of course I had to wait a few days to get that prescription. 6 weeks later no improvement so took her back with our other dog who was showing hot spots. Another new vet who NEVER put hands on or examined either dog. Said it was fleas (both were on meds). Gave them different meds and a shot. When I got home I realized my ~$600 bill did not include the annual vaccinations for the second dog as requested. The best vet I've ever been to in my entire life and I've been a vet receptionist for another very busy vet. I've since moved out of state, and still recommend everyone to Gresham Animal Hospital. What ever you do, COME TO THIS VET. I had an aging Dachshund they ended up caring for. She was the light of my life. I had just enough money to pay for 3 teeth to be removed and she ended up getting 13 removed. I believe they said the rest were easily removable (unlike the molars), therefore they didn't charge for them. I can't tell you how many happy tears I cried after that. Eventually, she got to the age and condition that warranted a peaceful euth. I'm obsessed with the idea of coming through the side door and leaving the same way so no one could see how emotional I was. They allow you all the time you need to be with your baby before and after the procedure. Make sure you let them know if you want your pet cremated with the blanket you brought. So far so good. I adopted Rubalene from an animal shelter and needed to get her spayed. I was very nervous. I had just lost a 3 month old kitten and was pretty petrified. The staff was very reassuring and kind. Helping me understand 100% of what was going on. They were wonderful with Ruby. I definitely will return here. I've been taking my pets to Dr. Chris since I was a kid, and have continued to do so as an adult. He is sincere and genuinely cares about animals wellbeing. While I always try to get in with him, I have at times seen other providers there, with mostly positive experiences. Dr. Hanna is very kind and gentle with my dog. Dr. Powers reminds me of an old time farm vet and sometimes has an unconventional approach, but he has never wronged me nor my dog. I have very little negative to say. The big thing is their pricing. I understand businesses have to make money, but this definitely isn't the cheapest vet around, although you get what you pay for and I think it is worth it for quality care. I have had one negative experience with one of the vets, Dr. Armitage. He was rude, rough, and impatient. He "man handled" my dog unnecessarily as she is extremely obedient, and he didn't even give her a chance to come over to him. He did not seem to care at all about her well-being. I know veterinary care is a high burnout occupation and it can be challenging to remain compassionate, but it was inconceivable how much his distaste for his job was apparent. Overall, I will continue to bring my dog and any future pets to Dr. Chris. It is worth the price to know the quality of care is unmatched. read more

Don't take your animals here. You'll save yourself thousands of dollars worth of emergency care due to lack of communication and ineptitude. Not only do they refuse to take valid criticism, they'll try to gaslight you to absolve themselves of any wrongdoing. They sent our sick cat home with medication but zero guidance and lack of clarification on the treatment plan. When her condition didn't improve, we reached out multiple times to try to understand what we should do. We were never told her situation could worsen, nor were we told pancreatitis can cause food aversion. Now our cat's pancreatitis has advanced severely and she has developed fatty liver disease. This could have been prevented if they were just communicative and gave proper guidance in the first place. Not only that, they're publicly gaslighting us by saying they responded to all of our inquiries when this is a flat out lie. We called to ask for guidance last Thursday (May 30) and informed them our cat had stopped eating. We were told Dr. Armitage was out of the office that day and would return our call the following day. He literally did not call us back. He only reached out when we asked for our pets' records and left a negative Yelp review. None of this is even including their lack of information and guidance with our brand new puppy. They had zero guidance on vaccinations and seemed disorganized. I specifically had to ask about heartworm and flea/tick meds. I only knew to ask about these things because I grew up with dogs. If you're a first time dog owner, you will not get the care you need at Gresham Animal Hospital. They didn't even want to schedule follow up appointments throughout her first year of growth once she was fully vaccinated. In my experience, a solid vet who has the bandwidth will want to see the puppy at least every three months until they are over a year. The lack of care here is truly astonishing compared to vets I've taken my previous pets. At best, you'll take your healthy pet here and need to be extremely on top of what to ask about. At worst, you'll bring in a sick pet and be in over your head due to lack of communication. If you truly care about the health and well-being of your patients, you will take this criticism and improve. Maybe if you spent a little less time writing defensive responses to negative Yelp reviews and a little more time providing guidance and communication to your clients who need it, we'd have a healthy cat at home instead of a cat fighting for her life at the emergency vet. read more

To have that sense that my pups, cats, and ferrets are all in good hands and won't be ignored or mistreated like at their last clinic. Unless you have been through that horrible experience of having your pet hurt by a vet, on purpose, you can't possibly know how relieving it is to know your pet is safe and being cared for by an amazing team of people from the moment you walk in the doors. Tried to switch vets on me for my dogs surgery despite requesting in writing we see OUR vet. Second time they have ignores my request to have only our vet see our dog. I mean, I'd I wanted a different ver I'm a big boy and can ask for one. Why choose a vet if he won't be the one doing the work? Lol. So absurd and stupid it's funny. Intake form suggests time savings at drop off if filled out online. Not so. I waited, and I had to answer the questions again. The form is an upsell nightmare. Makes perfect sense though, they're only after the almighty dollar. Call, leave messages. No returned calls. Notified them that one of our dogs, their patient, had passed away. Do they care? Nope. Just keep sending me emails to remind me my dead dog is due to make a deposit of funds at their clinic for... Ugg who knows. I put them in spam as it's not fun to see an email come through mentioning my dead dog. Enjoy it while it's good. When it's bad no one will have your back. I only go here because all the other good vet clinics are booked up. I've been coming here for 2 years just to avoid having to find a new vet but I think it's time that I find a new one. People there are friendly, but customer service sucks. When you call, they keep you on hold for 10-15 min. One time I was on hold for 30 min. And it's every single time too... my two years of bringing my dog here, I have never called and they were immediately available to schedule. During Covid, when my dog had an appt, we would arrive 10-15 min early and they wouldn't even take him in until 15+ min after the appointment time. It takes about the same amount of time to check out and pay. I've never been to a clinic that took THAT long to check in/out. I've asked multiple times for invoices to our visits so I can get a refund from my pet insurance. I've called 3 times already and left 2 voicemails and still have not received it or a response for last weekends visit. I'm currently on hold now to get the invoice.. 12 min on hold... Overall, I don't think this clinic respects their clients time because they really take their sweet time on the whole process, start to finish.. from calling to schedule an appt to checking out. I've been going here for years and always had great service. Today I went to get meds for my 4 pd yorkie and they accidentally gave me another dogs meds ... ok I get it things happen so I called to let them know. There were no sorrys or anything, if I didn't read the label well 5mg of diazepam would've killed him. I asked if my husband could come by after work and pick up the right meds since he works in town and we live a half hour away and he could drop off the wrong meds in his way in tomorrow. When I called to figure out what was being done with his remains they put me on hold 5 times and I had to explain what happened over and over again as I cried. Look, my husband and I have been taking our animals to this vet clinic for 30+ years, and they used to have amazing customer service. But since we were not allowed into the waiting room because of Covid, they are now rude on the phone, they act as if it's below them to answer a question. They talk negatively about the doctors while they're at the front desk, they're short and snappy, and they send you to other vet offices, and it ends up being the same waiting time. I've had a conversation with the office mgr twice, nothing has changed, the sad thing is the doctors are excellent and I feel like they really care. The bad thing is there's no way for me to contact them and let them know my feelings, and when I'm there for an appointment I just don't feel like it's the right time to take away from my pet. read more

Dr. Chris and staff have been wonderful to us and our 3 dogs. We have since moved to Maui and the staff were on top of all the Dept of Agriculture and airline paperwork so that our dogs could not only enter Hawaii, but get immediate release at the airport and avoid quarantine! Dr. Chris is a caring, highly skilled vet. Our dogs are rescues and have a variety of medical issues. One common to all 3 was a need for dental extractions. That is always scary, but I felt comfortable with Dr. Chris' expertise and the dogs always came through the procedure with flying colors! Once again, Dr Chris knew the right thing to do for my 13 year old Chihuahua with a heart condition. Chester is still going strong, quite active, and somehow ended up with fleas. I was very concerned the flea medication would be too much on top of his heart meds. Dr. Chris reassured me and gave me a prescription, right away. Worst veterinary clinic ever. I had a long consultation with one doctor over how to best care my special needs dog who needed an ultrasound; paid the deposit, scheduled it 3 months out. On the day of, no notes, the front desk was rude, uncaring and horrid. I ended up walking out. Another doctor called me back and tried to get me to come back in; I relayed what had happened, and he said: "well, they (techs) have a different side to the story, and I'm certainly not going to fire them". Seriously? I didn't ask that-I was explaining why I left. If vet techs speak and are aggressive to customers, what are they like with your pet when you can't see them? I would never trust them with my pet. All I want is my deposit back, because what I paid for is not what the first doctor and I discussed. read more
