I've never had such a good experience buying glasses. I went in looking for a style they did not carry by ProDesign in Denmark. She immediately knew the look and helped me find something similar. They had a lot of options in the store and offered to order colors for frames that they did not have in stock. They ordered my glasses and called me to pick them up the very next day. The price was $5 lower than I expected. I'm confident the shape fits my face well due to how many we tried on and the additional help they provide. Its never been so easy to replace lost glasses with something new. They adjusted them to sit straight on me and gave me free cleaning spray. Gregory is nothing but a gentleman! They also had all sorts of vintage spectacles for sale and entertainment while we wait. They keep them in a curiosity chest. Very charming store! read more

I've been using Gregory's optical for many years ever since they open the shop in the original location on Thayer Street. The combined experience of the father-son tandem is more than a half a century! No matter how complicated a prescription is, you can be assured that the lenses (they use the best lenses there is, i.e. Seiko, Shamir, etc.), will be masterfully manufactured. The frame selection is superb, made of the high quality materials, and they will help you select what best suits your face and personality. They really stand by their work. Once my son sat on the glasses and damaged them. I brought the glasses that were purchased at Gregory's, Gregory himself fixed the frame and refused to take money from me noting that he'd rather see me coming back to buy a new pair when the time comes. Another time, I showed up with a new Rx, Gregory commented that there may be a mistake in the way the Rx was written and on the spot called my eye doctor. The doctor confirmed that he made an error in haste and thanked Gregory for catching the error rather than blindly folowing the Rx. I was very impressed. I know other people who are the repeat customers like me, who followed Gregory and his son Michael to their present location because you cannot buy the friendly and knowledgable service like you get at Gregory's Optical anywhere. I had a pair of sunglasses that needed to be fixed and Google search told me Gregory's Optical was the closest place to go. I found myself in the shop with a sweet older couple and a cute chubby dachshund. The service was really great, I sat for a few minutes while he tinkered about and it cost me almost nothing to get my sunglasses fixed. I don't wear glasses, so my optometry experience is limited, but I was really charmed by this place. read more

These guys are insanely good. My fiancee and I have both been and it is far and above the most pleasurable customer service experience ever. They help you find the pair frames that are just right for you, give you lots of space and time, aren't over-bearing, and have impeccable taste. The son Michael is great, and I understand Gregory and his wife are also fantastic. Truly, straight out of Murakami. Prices are similar to place on Thayer (unless you go high end, but there are fabulous choices in the normal range, e.g. ~200-300 for frames), but so much more choice and hands-on help in picking out the right look. I have decided to update my review based on new information. The first time I went into Gregory's Optical I never wore glasses before. I was waited on by the older gentleman there. Looking back they never told me there different types of bifocals much less did they ask me what what type would be the best. Nor did they ever describe the types of frames and more importantly which frames were sturdy and strong. instead they suggested glasses where the frames BROKE in the fist several weeks. If I had been informed and educated compared to not at all I would have gotten completely different glasses. In short I am disappointed with the lack of education I received as a new customer from the older gentleman. His service was more reminiscent of doctors of old who told you what to buy and how much. Now, I realize it was my fault for not asking more but only later did I find these things out and NOT from him. read more

I just wanted to let you know about the horrendous service I received at Gregory's Optical. After I returned to them with a new prescription as the frist one was wrong, Gregory, (the father), seemed very angry that the first prescriptions were not working for me. It happens! When I went back to pick up my glasses with the new prescriptions they were fine so, I left my old frames, which I love, to have the new prescription put in them as well. When I got the call today that the glasses "were ready", I went in and he told me he had in fact broken my old frames and made new glasses and he handed them to me. No apology. No option to choose a new frame. He just handed me glasses. I was in shock and asked if the frames could be fixed. "No", he told me. "Pick something out and I never want to see you again", he told me. Each frame I chose he told me it was too expensive. He finally handed me a frame I could live with. I said "yes, I'll take those." I handed them back to him to have my new prescription put in and he said he was not going to put the new lenses in, that I should go somewhere else and he never wanted to see me again! What?! I said nothing and walked out. I've never been treated this way. Now I need somewhere to put the new prescription in these subpar frames he gave me that I was willing to go with just to get this situation over with. read more

This place is great! I had a very positive experience there. It's a small shop with a great selection of frames from Europe, Japan and the US (Oliver Peoples, Face a Face, etc etc.). The shop is run by two couples from the same family--one older, one younger. The men are the opticians, and the women run the front of the store. The younger woman spent a lot of time helping me choose a frame that worked for my face, encouraging me to step outside with a mirror to see in different light, etc. The prices are reasonable and the service was extremely fast because they make the lenses in house. What a find! I was stunned by how helpful the staff was and how terrific the selection of European frames was, despite my first impression that the shop was small. They were respectful of my budget, energetic without being pushy, and their advice on which frames suited me was spot on. I am so glad I found this place. I have been going to this place for several years. I actually never buy frames here because their frames style is too authentic and unusual for my taste. This store is for someone who likes unique and not mass production look. I go to Gregorys Optical when I need to put prescription lenses and service is always excellent. They have lowest price , Gregory is super fast-he usually get my glasses done in a day and I never had any issues with my lenses. Gregorys wife may be too stright forward but she is honest and has good taste. It is better than when sales person will tell you whatever you want to hear just to make you to purchase a frame. read more

First let me say while I'm always very polite and respectful I sometimes ask a LOT of questions. I bought at age 50 my FIRST set of eyeglass, actually I needed 2 pair. I knew nothing about eyeglasses and they were soooo patient with me explaining everything and helping select pairs. Excellent service and excellent product. Apparently Gregory's is only helpful as a full service experience. I called to ask if i could bring my frames in to be adjusted and was rudely told by the optician himself that since I was not a customer there and did not purchase the frames from them, he would not adjust my glasses. While I fully understand he is under no obligation to acquiesce to my request, he did not have to be so rude about it. Glad I didn't get my glasses from there, or maybe that was the problem itself. I had two pairs of glasses with slightly broken temples, but otherwise perfect. Stopped at a couple of places where they claim they do repairs. They told me my frames are irreparable and the glass itself cannot be used in other frames, so I need new glasses. My prescription glasses are not simple and are pretty expensive, so, not ready to throw them away, I found Gregory's place on the internet, and now, in a week, have my glasses back perfectly repaired for a very reasonable price. Will not go to any other place next time I need new glasses or repairs! read more

I have bought 2-3 prs of glasses from Gregory's and have been completely satisfied until the last time I was there. Unfortunately, the owner's wife waited on me. She was extremely RUDE ! When I was looking at a different price point than before, she said, What's the matter, don't you have the money that you spent before?????? I was infuriated and wrote a note to the owner. He called me and said, I can't do anything about her, she is my wife. If I am going to spend upwards of $600 for a pair of glasses, I expect to be treated with respect. Or for that matter, if I was going to spend less than $100, I expect respect !!! Even though the owner said that I wouldn't have to deal with his wife again, I will never step foot in their store !!! I grew up in retail ( my Dad owned a pharmacy) and he would fired any associate on the spot if they treated anyone the way I was treated !! read more
