My primary dentist referred me to Dr. Timothy Gainey for 2 root canals. The minute I nervously walked in the door, I was greeted by a friendly human (Laurie). :) My consultation went smoothly, and my procedures were done with the utmost professionalism, care and with a bit of humor thrown in. Dr. Gainey and his team even stayed late to finish both of my root canals and get me out of pain. I cannot say enough positive things about this entire experience. Other endodontists on my insurance plan wanted me to wait over a month. I presented for a consultation regarding a redo of a root canal. The staff were courteous, professional and polite. The dental assist was skilled, very kind and gentle. Dr Sharma was one of the nicest people I have dealt with in a long time. Very knowledgeable, humble, incredible bedside manner. Although he could have recommended, and I really wanted, a redo of the root canal performed by a general dentist many years ago, Dr Sharma was very firm, polite and apologetic that a redo would almost certainly fail, clearly gave the reasons why, explained his reasoning thoroughly using CT and plain xray images. He then arranged for oral surgery consult in my region. I traveled over 100 mikes to see him and it was well worth the trip. I most highly recommend Dr Sharma.

I was told that if I didn't want to do the paperwork until the day of my appointment I'd need to arrive 30 minutes before my scheduled time. My appointment was at 7:30am which is the time the office opens so I'm not sure how that would have all worked out. In the end, doing the required paperwork in advance is for the patient's benefit and it's always nice to know cost up front for anything dental (at least I think so). As for the appointment, I have to say I was genuinely impressed with the office. It's an up-to-date facility in an unassuming office building. I was greeted by a calming waterfall when the elevator doors opened, a friendly receptionist offered me water and the bathroom even had essential oil spray. Oh and there was an aquarium in the waiting room! The equipment used for scans was all very clean and felt state of the art. I saw Dr. Zielinski. I found him to be knowledgeable and straight forward. I will say he talks a lot so if you see him be sure to ask your questions and even ask him to clarify terms if you need to. He was very helpful and answered all my questions and I never felt rushed which is important to me. In the end I don't need work done here but if I did I would feel comfortable moving forward.

I saw my oral surgeon this morning, before seeing Dr. Max, and the surgeon told me that Dr. Max contacted him asking for his 2nd opinion on a questionable area around the tooth he was treating (not his root canal), and Dr. Max told me that he also discussed that area with my general dentist. Now that's a true CARE, isn't it? But perhaps I shouldn't marvel why Dr. Max is so exceptionally caring and instead marvel why not all dentists and doctors are this way, since doctors are supposed to care for and about their patients and put their interests first. They have a mini fridge available with waters in the waiting room and a coffee station. Once called back, the appointment felt rushed. I had imaging done and then had a 2-3 minute interaction with Dr. Max. There was no discussion of options, risks, etc. I was prescribed an antibiotic and told to schedule the next two appointments for root canal retreatment. I was a bit disoriented. I did as asked but eventually cancelled those two follow up appointments and scheduled with a different practice with more time for patient care and education.

I was able to schedule for my root canal to be done right after…read morethe evaluation of the tooth (if it was needed), which saved me from having to wait to get it done. The root canal took an hour during which I felt zero pain. YEAH! I was given detailed instructions concerning what to take when the numbing wore off, what to watch for and how to take care of the temporary filling until the permanent one could be done. (FYI, they do a temporary so that if there is a problem, they don't have to remove a permanent filling to address the problem) They told me to wait for 2 weeks to get the permanent fill, but I have to wait 3 weeks due to the possibility of jury duty during week 2.
