Finally I told my cardiologist's office about this and asked them to call Coastal Surgeons consider my status as "urgent." My cardiologist staff person called me back right away because the staff at Coastal Surgeons told her that they do not perform the procedure I needed (an "MRA" because one of my carotid is 80% blocked). You would think that even if they don't do such a procedure, they would at least have the courtesy to call me back to tell me.

I called last Friday on September 6, 2024 at 4 p.m. to tell Veronica I had cancelled a CT Scan with the Contrast Dye in it for my Pelvis and my Stomach at Tri-City Medical Center. I changed my mind due to the bad side effects that will happen to me. Veronica calls me Miss Frances all the time. Then I explained to her that I need a second opinion on my medical condition. I want to have more treatment options than being encouraged by Dr. Andrew Deemer to have surgery . That's my last resort. I believe surgery is okay when it's the last choice for a patient to get done. I know I will have a much better outcome with a doctor who knows my medical history. Even though , I am no longer a patient with this facility. I wanted to say that Veronica's personality has really stood out with me. Veronica was very understanding about my explanation in me finding more better treatment options for my health care. Veronica is a good listener and she doesn't interrupt me when I am talking to her. The last thing Veronica said to me yesterday was that she hopes that I will get the right treatment in the new medical office I will have to be a new patient at soon. Veronica is the only person who stands out in this Coastal Surgeons Office.

They all made a very scary situation much easier. This was my second exact surgery and Dr. Samagh was kind and caring, and has such great bedside manner, something lacking in todays doctors. My surgery was so much easier than my first surgery two years ago, and my healing has been smoother with the help of both Garrett and Kristi's help. I would not hesitate ever turning to this group if you ever need surgery. They are at the top of game, and have new and innovative ways to get results that others don't. They specialize in areas where others really don't know what they are doing. Trust these people.

They are not rude, but they lack any sort of logic or practice coordination skills you would expect such as replying to emails, telling you critical things that you should know about the practice, returning phone calls, following up after saying they would, giving correct information about scheduling an appointment or basic insurance coordination. It is asinine any doctor would have office staff this poor and it reflects negatively on the provider. I wasted about a month trying to see him in no small part due to the incompetence and lack of professionalism of his staff.

The hospital has very caring nurses who always explained to me exactly what they were giving me in the way of medication while I was at the hospital. What was the most impressive was Dr. Grove's respect and consideration for my religious choices. He reassured me that he could accomplish what was needed without the use of whole blood products and he did just so! I healed much quicker than I expected, with minimal pain and he released me from his care within a month of a complicated, serious surgical procedure. I will be moving out of state soon yet if I ever need surgery again, I would return to San Diego North County just to have Dr. Grove help me again. Thanks so much, Dr. Grove! You are a keeper!

Dr. Grove is a wonderful doctor with a very pleasant bedside manner. I felt comfortable with his…read moreassessment and surgical plan for me. He made me feel at ease and I am fortunate that he was my surgeon. However, the rest of the staff at MISNC treated me unprofessionally and very poorly- the worst of which was Melanie, Dr. Grove's medical assistant. Even though my PCP put the referral in as urgent, it still took almost a month just for a consultation because, and I quote, "How do we know you have a hernia? If you're in pain you should just go to the ER and you won't even have to come here." Back and forth with my PCP about the surgeon "not having my note" and no diagnostic ultrasound was ordered. My PCP said they would order it. The surgeons medical assistant said he won't see me until I have one. So they were just going to make me wait one-two-three- four weeks for just a consultation. They wouldn't even let me make an appointment with the doctor just to talk to him!!!! PCP calls me back and orders the ultrasound. Then and only then did they finally make me an appointment. Three weeks of being told "they don't have the notes" and "doctor hasn't read my notes" to "how are we supposed to know you have a hernia? Just go to the ER." Got scheduled for surgery a month after consultation- mind you they are supposed to call within 72 hours for urgent or 7-14 business days for routine. THREE WEEKS LATER, I finally call their scheduler and ask what's going on- get a bunch of excuses about they're busy and booked up until the end of January. My referral was initially entered to consult with surgeon in the middle of October. Surgery referral was approved 11/20. She finally calls me back and apologized and offers me Dec. 11th. I had my surgery yesterday and everything went well, Dr. Grove was fantastic and did a great job. Fast forward to today and the wound is bleeding some and I'm having massive pain upon ambulation. Post op nurse at the hospital advised me to stop taking the ibuprofen and call surgeon ASAP. I called and left message. An hour later the MA calls me back and once again- her only words of advice were "Since you're in pain with bleeding you should just go to the ER." Twice now she's pawned me off saying not their problem- I should just go to ER. No different meds or anti-inflammatories. No office visit to check sutures. Just go to the ER. I tell you, I've never been treated so poorly as a patient in all of my 36 years. I've had children and this was my fourth overall surgery. Dr. Grove, your office staff does not do you justice. I have no desire to go back for my two week post op visit. I have no faith whatsoever in the staff at MISNC. If I wasn't under an HMO, in pain, and just wanting to get this over with, I would have definitely gone somewhere else. They obviously "were busy" and made me feel discarded and like a nuisance. ***Fast forward to July 2020. Horrific episode of nausea and vomiting. See PCP via telehealth after finding a protrusion at surgery site from Dr. Grove 12/2019. She recommended a new surgeon when informed about poor experience here. Saw a new surgeon less than one week later who is going to fix the now incarcerated recurrent ventral hernia, wish I was not in this position. Never once did I have to play phone tag with new office. Surgery scheduled next Monday to finally fix what should have been done with Dr. Grove. Sad about my overall experience here and wish it didn't have to warrant a second surgery to fix what he quoted were "indestructible sutures."
