For years I never really though that your dentist was someone you should feel comfortable around; I figured you just pay him or her to do their job (or leave your insurance info), smile, and leave. I got my teeth cleaned here all thoughout junior high, high school, and even for a few years in college. A girl I knew even worked the front desk. It's nice to catch up with old friends now and then. One day, however, Dr. Jacobs was very rude to me and to his staff and since then, I have never returned. First of all, he asked me if I smoked. I said no. He asked me again, this time insisting that I did. I again said no. He told me that my teeth were stained and that he wouldn't tell my dad (he knows my whole family) if I did smoke. I was 20 years old at the time, and if I did actually smoke, I'm sure my dad would have known by then. Besides, there are other ways your teeth can get stained- coffee, soda, etc. Why did he insist that it was smoking? Dr. Jacobs asked me if I knew the girl that worked at the front desk since he had seen me talking to her. He then told me to "stay away from her." I was so confused. Was he joking or serious? Next, I heard some chatter between Dr. Jacobs and his assistant. He was asking the female assistant if the girls in the office went out last night. He then told the assistant that the girl working the front desk, the old friend of mine, "look[ed] like sh*t today."- implying that she was hungover. Now even if my friend were hungover, it was completely unprofessional for a dentist to talk about his employees' personal business right in front of me. I'll never go back. Try Drahos Family Dental instead on Archer just a few blocks west of Dr. Jacob's office. Emily Park Drahos, DDS is a great dentist who I actually feel comfortable around.

This week she saw my mother in law for emergency tooth pain and infection. My MIL lives in another country and is 72 years old. Dr Daza fit her into her busy schedule, patiently examined and diagnosed her, and referred her to a surgeon for root canal. Later on, my MIL felt faint and had a headache, Dr Daza called me at 7:30p to advise and comfort us. Today my MIL is back to her energetic self and we are headed to an architecture boat tour. She doesn't gouge your gums or overextend your jaw when deep cleaning or xraying your teeth. This was my first visit since Dr. Gannon retired in August 2023. He was my dentist for over 30 years. I was in fear that the pain would only worsen into a horror story and asked my family for a reference. They all spoke very highly of Dr. Gannon's practice that has been in operation for nearly forty years. Late in the afternoon, I was able to schedule an appointment for 8 a.m. the next morning. I arrived the next morning and was taken care of immediately. Dr. Nellie Gannon took care of me along with her colleague (dental hygienist) who took x-rays to discover the good news, my teeth were not broken and didn't need a root canal. My personal experience with him has left a horrible taste in my mouth (excuse the pun). I have bad teeth. He made a permanent bridge for my top teeth. For the front bottom 4 he made a denture. I tried for months to get used to it and just could not. I hated it. So, I asked for the same type of permanent bridge on the bottom. It's very embarrassing to not have my front 4 bottom teeth, and my job involves visiting multiple people every day. He told me he could do it and would fight to have it done with the insurance. I had even applied for the credit I would need to get it done. (It was not cheap) Next thing I know it's been denied by insurance. I come to find out after many calls and attempts to appeal that this cowardly lying SOB told the insurance he couldn't recommend it. While still telling me he would fight to get it done. Obviously, we have left the guy and would recommend you go see someone else. I am sure he is fine for cleanings, but so is a dental hygienist. If you need more than that or a fluoride treatment, go to a better skilled and less cowardly dentist.
