I had the banding procedure done and I've been pain free for the first time in years! I highly recommend Dr Bernstein.

Dr Pepin ordered an expensive endoscopy, even though I had one relatively recently. Although he did not find anything overly disturbing he then recommended a fairly expensive ultrasound. The same day I had the ultrasound he phoned and told me to undergo a gall-bladder removal surgery due to some stones being "present" (even though I did not exhibit symptoms typical of having gallbladder stones) He recommended a surgeon from Polyclinic, which upon checking happened to be relatively a novice. So I end up self-referring to a much more experienced surgeon in a different clinic. Upon carefully examining me, that surgeon was very reluctant to perform a surgery on me, due to the lack of symptoms present when someone has gallbladder stones. She recommended I get a second opinion from a different gastroenterologist, who upon examining ordered a second ultrasound. The second ultrasound in the different clinic has shown no gallstones present ! When confronting Dr Pepin with this new fining, he told me he isn't at fault for urging me to undergo a $30,000+ surgery, since he (blindly ?) relied on the ultrasound to come up with his recommendation (even though he ought to have examined me first for the conforming symptoms, instead of rashly urging me to go under the knife over the phone!). He told me he gave me the "best possible care", and that I wasn't "nice" for demanding at very least the refund of the initial faulty ultrasound. He also needlessly threatened to send me to the collection agency, even though his bills weren't even past due and, as I always do, I fully intended to pay them even without any adjustments!

Absolutely love Dr Pepin. I'm 30 years old and recently found out that I suffered a lifelong…read morecondition that I had no idea existed until I felt horrible symptoms. The. Absolute. Worst…read more For procedures like a colonoscopy or endoscopy, the doctors and nurses are skilled and very friendly. But every other aspect of the experience is beyond awful. I should note that this is a marked change from my experience with them 11 years ago. I went in to see them for two problems, one of which had recently resulted in a trip to the ER. Just getting in to see someone was a challenge. The phone queues are long. They transfer you to the wrong place because they don't spend the 5 seconds it would take to listen before transferring. They never call you back when they say they will, causing unnecessary delays and follow-ups. In my case, they sent me to the "triage" for colonoscopy. I never heard back from that. I found out later that they want you to see a doctor or PA in the practice before they will schedule a colonoscopy. Well, great then why not schedule that when the person calls rather than adding their name to some list that apparently is never followed up on? After a couple of months (seriously) I managed to get in to see a physician's assistant, discussed my problem, and from there they scheduled a colonoscopy and endoscopy. The experience with the PA was great, and I was pleased that they were able to schedule the procedures fairly quickly (just a few weeks out). The post-op report said that my colonoscopy showed no problems. Unfortunately, it appears that because of this the doctor has just decided to ignore the symptoms that prompted my initial visit. I guess I must be imagining 8 months of abdominal pain... My endoscopy did show an issue, and this correlates with the other reason I went to see them for (difficulty swallowing). Prior to the procedure, the doctor mentioned that if the results of that were what she expected, she would refer me to a dietician to see if there was some food allergy causing the issue. However, there has been no follow-up from anyone regarding the referral to a dietician, no prescription or recommendation for medication. Nothing. This is surprising because in the initial visit the PA mentioned it was important to address this issue because if untreated over time it can lead to more serious issues. I've been waiting for a couple of weeks now. The thought of waiting several more months to get back into to see someone to have them do the follow-up they should have already done is too much. I've decided to take my business elsewhere.

Dr Gregory Bernstein incited long-term pain and bowel dysfunction after recommending and performing…read morea procedure 5+ months ago which future colorectal providers described as contraindicated to symptoms, without cause (the procedure was on an asymptomatic hemorrhoid, incidentally noted during colonoscopy), and likely with improper techniques, due to the facility's preemptive use of nitroglycerin. He rushed through the first appointment we had, and didn't ask many questions. Half my responses were mischarted, and he cut me off wherever I tried to ask questions, or provide detail. When confronted with the severe pain (like, in tears, after previously tolerating a thrombosed hemorrhoid), he was a condescending jerk, and tried to minimize the pain as just anxiety, initially refusing to do any exam, and never performing a DRE, before or after, actively delaying receiving the right diagnosis and treatment in a timely manner which may have helped to undo the damage he contributed to. He just said to schedule an appointment a few months out, and it would be gone by then if I used Nitroglycerin (which both didn't work, and added to irritation). A nurse initially refused to share a list of PT providers, until I finished two more bandings. He then charged my insurance $1k for a second procedure he never performed. (Edit: this was marked as an office surgery in claim, but the CPT code was correct in EOB. He did bill initial visit at 45 to 60 minutes, despite less than 15 minutes of interaction) On Yelp, others have described similar incidents, and being guided into a procedure branded as "painless" without explanation or concern when severe pain is the outcome. The entity had a negative reputation from both a local colorectal specialist, and PT. I tried to switch providers at GastroHealth, but was told that wouldn't be possible, and to seek referral to hospital system (months out) instead. After leaving a negative review, Dr Bernstein rescheduled video visits (for a rectal injury), where he contributed nothing remotely valuable. This has caused thousands of dollars in medical bills, invasive tests, temporary disability, and near constant pain, severe enough to prevent me from being able to travel over the holidays, even after months of PT. The experience has been incredibly traumatic, to trust a doctor, and go from an already distressing amount of pain (which he did nothing of value to address), to an all new kind of pain. I truly believe he is incompetent and unethical, and someone who should not be practicing medicine, especially anything colorectal adjacent.

I reached out to request a change, they called me once and while I called back numerous times they did not call back. Totally ghosted me. It's nearly impossible to get on the phone with their staff, and their in-office staff is so rude. My appointments were also constantly being rescheduled and pushed out by the staff. I was told I had to go into the lab to pick up a sibo test. They will not set aside a kit for you, you just have to hope they have some on hand. Every time I tried to go in they were either out of tests or closed early. Their suggestion was to drive over an hour to a different location. After several months, I finally got my sibo result. The doctor at my follow up said he didn't believe in Sibo and said I just needed miralax. The entire experience was so discouraging, and I received no real help with my symptoms. About a month ago, I decided to see a naturopath instead. She got more done for me in one appointment than Washington GI did in an entire year - no exaggeration! I'm now being treated for Sibo and Candida overgrowth, and I have hope for the first time in a long time. Whether you see a naturopath or find a private GI, I guarantee you'll have a better experience than with Washington GI!
