I hate writing negative reviews, but I am writing this one in the hope that it steers even one person away from this office. Someone called this guy an "old charmer." I'll be blunt and say that he was flat-out creepy. In addition--as another former patient seems to have mentioned--he completely missed not one, but two major diseases, which he had plenty of information to diagnose and/or at least refer me to specialists for. Take off a star for each of the following: 1. I've moved and having to wait 90+ minutes every time on top of a half-hour one-way drive isn't cool. 2. Getting him to do paperwork is as hard as separating two mating grasshoppers, even after several phone calls. I think I once received a bill for a regular office visit after 8 or 9 months. Hodges is unlike any doctor I've even heard of. The amount of time, attention, and access he gives all his patients is unprecedented, and he is incredibly well informed about how organs and their signals to each other work, and what the medical options and their side-effects are. He tailors treatments to the whole picture of the patient; most doctors just apply a standard protocol as quickly as they can. He gave me his cell number in our first physical, and takes calls about once every hour for 5 minutes each, always closing (after listening and addressing the most urgent concern with a next-step plan) with "Gotta go, I'm saving a life!". That generosity with his time means that most office appointments start significantly late, and to get the most out of your time with him, plan to also take some time. He responds quickly to, for example, text messages to nudge him if there is paperwork he needs to push through. The only drawback other than that is the front-desk receptionist. She is great when you are on track and she picks up the phone, to set an appointment or pay a bill for example. But getting voicemail returned or sorting out a complicated problem can be frustrating. Hodges himself is a rare gem, just plan to also spend time for him in return, and I understand the reviews that were frustrated going through the main business number. Getting that first physical with him is the key - once you're in the practice, he will partner with you to resolve most problems, and knows local specialists for everything else. Where else can you get advice from your GP at 8pm on a Saturday? He truly cares about each of his patients and knows your general medical story off the top of his head. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Hodges after seeing these great Yelp reviews. I wanted a doctor with good bedside manner who would help me figure out why I was not feeling well. I also needed him to make recommendations and referrals for a variety of different specialists I needed in order to help diagnose what was wrong. During the initial appointment, I had the same good experience that many reviewers have indicated here. I was initially excited to start being a patient of Dr. Hodges. After our appointment, he was supposed to let me know if I needed additional blood tests, and follow-up with referrals. I called the office multiple times in an attempt to get in touch with Dr. Hodges. First, the front desk did not add me to the online patient portal until almost a month later and argued with me when I told them I could not access it. I asked multiple times if the Dr. could call me back. It turns out he never ended up reviewing all the medical records I sent in, and did not have any follow-up regarding lab tests. He was supposed to refer me to a specialist that needed a doctor referral (even though I have a PPO plan) and he also failed to do that. I must have called the office 5 to 7 times in order to try to talk to him. The front desk had a very bad attitude about this and was very short with me on the phone. Additionally, he missed running basic blood tests that (given my family history) should have been a no-brainer to run in order to eliminate or confirm certain issues. I ended up having to wait almost two months until I had an allergist appointment and finally she ran the necessary tests. Those test confirmed a serious health issue and required me to have additional specialist evaluations and make a number of life changes. Dr. Hodges' inability to follow-up promptly negatively affected my health. There is no excuse for that in the medical profession. I ended up having to find another PCP. I finally found a PCP who has good bedside manner and also has good follow-up. A doctor is of no use if you have a serious issue, and either they (or their staff) is being extremely unresponsive. To everyone reading Yelp - if you need a basic check-up then maybe Dr. Hodges is okay. However, if you are facing a health issue that needs concentration and follow-up from your doctor, do NOT choose Dr. Hodges. read more

Came in 10 min early for first appt. After waiting in lobby for 30 min without even being taken into a room- btw this practice has a tiny office with maybe three rooms- asked receptionist and she said oh sorry he's super busy. I was the only one in waiting room. Finally nurse took me back- took note of how filthy the carpets were and how run down the rest looked. Had my father in waiting room because I don't have car and he was nice enough to take me and wait for what was an urgent concern. So my father is sitting there waiting this whole time, keep in mind. At this point we are 20 min into my appt time. Proceeded to wait ANOTHER 30 minutes in the room before getting up and telling receptionist i needed to leave soon. Also! Could hear EVERYTHING the patient and dr were discussing in the the room next to me, and they had been chatting about social stuff and this and that just visiting and laughing for at least the last 15 minutes at which point the other patient was in the hall and finally took note of me opening the door and peeking out and the PATIENT said "oh I better let you get to your other patients." So not only is this office violating HIPPA laws (privacy) since i can hear everything in the next room, now i also am thinking "okay he will FINALLY come in soon." Again, I had an urgent issue and this is why I put up with waiting so long. Now the kicker, I wait ANOTHER 10 minutes just sitting there staring at the wall- so we have now been at this clinic for a total of an HOUR and I am done. So I go out only to walk by and see dr wallace chatting on the phone with a doing call backs!! like just chit chatting and laughing!! Are you telling me you can't call someone back after seeing the patient who is in your office and has been waiting AN HOUR FOR YOU??? I was so stunned and felt so disrespected- he was in the receptionist area doing so, so he totally heard me say I am leaving now this is not acceptable, and did not even so much as look up at me. Just TOTALLY ignored me. Thank you so much "Dr" Hodges for wasting 40 minutes of my fathers driving time, paying for parking (which was expensive and there is no downtown office parking), and then wasting another hour of his time and mine. You cost us about 2 hours, 20$, and worst of all made us both feel completely disrespected and disgusted with you behavior. Not to mention I got no treatment!!!! You made an oath to do no harm as a physician- clearly you think everything is a big joke and don't give a crap about the people you hurt or their time. Typical, textbook narcissist. Dr. Hodges has been my PCP for at least 15 years. (BTW, he has never solicited a review). I trust his judgment and rely on his advice. He often goes that extra mile in the areas of visit-time and providing evidence-based information related to my specific situation. I have found that I can always get an appointment in a reasonable time frame. I have found that waiting room time has been a profitable investment for confidence in the quality of care I receive. No issue is too trivial or too big for him to address seriously and systematically, and few issues reach beyond his medical experience, although he has made some excellent referrals to specialists and works well with them. read more

Dr Wallace Hodges is the most caring, compassionate, funny, brilliant doctor I have ever known. The biggest difference between him and most doctors is he really listens. My first appointment lasted until he knew my entire history of medical issues. He believes "listen to your patient, they are telling you the diagnosis". He explains everything to you and answers all of your questions. He has an amazing referral list of outstanding doctors in cardiology, mental health, physical therapy, etc. He is more like a concierge doctor without the concierge prices. My anxiety over my health issues dropped dramatically after finding him. If you like the "see as many patients as you possibly can" where you get 10 minutes with your doctor, stick with the multi-care or docs at places like VA Mason, etc. My last doctor there never gave me more than 10 minutes--I spent more time with her nurse. And if you were sick, you saw a practitioner. Most doctors are too worried about squeezing in as many patients in one day as they possibly can. When I came down with Covid-19 this weekend, I was able to call him on his cell and get Paxlovid on a Sunday. How many doctors give you their cell phone for an emergency? I think he simply enjoys talking to all kinds of people. My elderly mother saw him for a few years. Waits were typically 90-120 mins. I saw him too - once - then moved on when an ordinary prescription for thyroid meds literally took weeks to be filled with me and pharmacy calling and emailing constantly. His care appeared careful but was in fact indifferent and vague. Put another way, no continuity. He's an old charmer with a lot of wisdom but unfortunately it's erratically applied. If you like being jollied along, he's your guy, but for anything serious, go somewhere else. read more

Dr. Hodges is the doc you dream of finding. He cares about his patients, he takes the time that they need with them, and he knows what he's doing. All that and he's humble and has a great sense of humor too. I have a complex medical condition that is difficult to treat. Over many years, I've seen the good, the bad, and the very ugly. Based on this experience, along with extensive reading of pertinent medical literature, I feel that I have a good sense of whom to trust and whom not to. I trust Hodges implicitly. So do many of the top specialists I see (most of whom I knew prior to finding Hodges, so it isn't a case of a mutual admiration society effect ). It's not surprising that Hodges has been named a " Top Doc " several times by local medical surveys ( Seattle and Seattle Met's annual lists ). Studies have shown that the best medical care is typically provided by two small groups of physicians: ones approximately five to ten years out of medical school (new enough to still know the latest findings but with enough of the 'gloss knocked off' to have common sense) and very experienced senior physicians who have kept learning. Hodges is in this latter group. Unlike many doctors, especially those who are his age, Hodges is always open to learning new things. If he doesn't know, he'll go read up on it or find someone who knows the information. If he's not sure, he will refer you to somebody he trusts will know more. But above all else fails, and the situation is still unclear, he will tell you that rather than try to bluff like so many less self-assured or less humble doctors do. No god-complex here! (And wouldn't you much rather honesty than ego?) After seeing so many doctors over so many years, I have very high standards for a "great doc." Most docs I only recommend with caveats. I spent the better part of 30 years looking for a good doctor. At one point, I gave up, and simply didn't go for the better part of a decade. I was phobic about doctors for some time, and I experienced significant distress at the thought of going to one due to years of bad experiences. I don't remember how I found Dr. Hodges, but the man single-handedly restored my faith in the medical profession. Okay, maybe not the entire profession ... I mean, the U.S. medical system is still a steaming bag of rabid dog excrement ... but I realized that there were still quality doctors still out there. Not many, mind you, but at least more than zero. Dr. Hodges is the first doctor that ever took the time to listen to what was going on with me, and he's the first doctor to make me feel like a human instead of a healtchcare consuming unit. I had one ailment that was complicated, and which other doctors found confounding. Actually, "confounding" may be the wrong word unless it means "didn't give flying squirrel f***". When I first came to Dr. Hodges almost ten years ago, I was in pretty bad shape. My functionality was greatly reduced, and I had difficulty performing my job duties. Dr. Hodges listened to me, and patiently pursued numerous avenues until we finally found a combination of treatments which allowed me to live, if not a normal life, then at least as close to one as is possible. Within 3 years, I got a job at a significantly more challenging company, and was even able to snag Employee of the Year my second year there. I've worked at a high-level ever since, and have remained productive in most aspects of my life. It was a remakable improvement. It's a textbook example of a positive medical outcome, and one that eluded me until the day I darkened Dr. Hodges doorstep. As if that weren't enough, I even stopped being a cynical bastard! Just kidding. Hodges is a great doctor, not a magician. Anyway, about the only negative I can think of, is that after seeing Hodges for awhile, it can be difficult to adjust back to normal "our twelve seconds are up, here's a trendy drug of the day prescription ... it may kill you it may not, so pay up before you leave just in case ... next!" doctors. I become somewhat notorious for not always following up with specialists, for the simple fact that they weren't Hodges. Frankly, I didn't want to go to anyone else. If you become a patient, only to find that you have to later move out of state, you may be in trouble. All you can do is start investing in airline stock and fly back for appointents. Dr. Hodges has been my primary doctor for about 9 years now, and in my humble opinion, he has no superiors. I'm not an easy patient either, I have more thing wrong with me than a '74 Ford Pinto. Remember those things? They were basically riding lawnmowers with better body work. I remember this one time I was riding with my Aunt in her Pinto. We were on the highway when I heard this *POP* and I looked in the rear view mirror just in time to see ... wait, where was I ... damn ADHD. I digress. Since Hodges takes his time with each patient, there will be days when you will have to wait. Even when he's late, he usually comes into the waiting room between patients to make sure noone is dying, so if you arrive at the office with a bullet wound to the head, you'll probably go back a little sooner. If you talk to his existing patients, they will all tell you the same thing ... "he's worth the wait". You will gladly do so as well, because when it's your turn, you will get the same consideration. If you get lonely waiting, fear not, for sometimes there will be a gigantic human-sized stuffed bear sitting next to you. (Hint: Check it's ear, sometimes there'll be a surprise in there.) I've thought about typing up a review of Dr. Hodges for a few years, but I've always had resevations about recommending him to a large audience. When you've found the best of something, letting the unwashed masses know about it is not always the best idea. Has anyone ever said "you know, I enjoy this place so much more now that everyone else knows about it as well!"? The answer is, it has never been said. Ever. By anyone. Anywhere. So by all means, dismiss my review and go to an inferior doctor. Get your 12 seconds of "care" and enjoy your prescription for whatever the pharma reps paid your doctor to give you. It won't bother me a bit. The fact of the matter is, you probably don't deserve a doctor this good. I know I don't. Sometimes in life, you just get lucky. Consider this my self-less act for 2019. OK, Now... some people will fuss at me for feeling this way, but I have never been so daggum grateful to wait around a doctor's office for an hour or more in just about my whole life. Why? Meet Dr. Wallace Hodges... Wally, Dude, Mister, cool ass son of a mom, he'll answer to a lot of names, and he has a name for someone that you may hear him utter should his phone ring.... "Excuse me for just a moment, the boss is calling." Yep, he'll answer a call from his wife if she's in one of those wife has to call moods (admittedly, that was when he was staying quite late... working up my chart all by his lonesome, an hour after the office "closed). See, his nurse took my weight and blood pressure... nothing else. She doesn't know much about me in reality. Dr. Hodges sat there asking all the questions and typing all the answers faithfully into his little laptop. My feet are "tootsies," and my head is a "noggin," sometimes a "thinker." I have a feeling I have a honker on my face, too, and it's adorable. How many doctors are these funny, gentle grampa figures that make you smile even with weird "I'm super sick" or "that friggin hurrrrtzzzz" squiggley lines on your face, you know, the :S face because you're happy he's gonna "get busy savin another life." Not pride in himself, just a kind acknowledgment that the reason he's possibly late to you is because you'll make him late for someone else one of these days, the day you really need him to ask lots of questions, order lots of labs, maybe (which he said he didn't even want to do until he "knew me better" and "knew which labs he wanted to check." Thank you for not sticking me every time like doctors of most every clinic everywhere!)... and if you happen to be a special case, he'll make special exceptions. He'll be happy to be as much of an all in one doc as he CAN, but he WILL refer you to specialists when you have something he's not superman about. I'm not sure how many things that's true of--he's quite attentive, which I think beats out "book smarts" considering you can look things up if you listen for what to look up. Ah, listening. Yep, he squeezed in before the just talk don't listen era of doctors... he doesn't even tend to rush things except in that mid-day time when he has to get to the next person because he realizes he just spent an hour on a 15 minute follow-up (request extra time for everyone's sake--the schedulers ALL know he's thorough, and the sweet receptionist I always talk to goes to him, too). Oh yeah, skip other clinics--this place really has it all and works quite well with the hospitals, getting info to and from quite fast (I got greeted by carbon monoxide when I moved here... I got 2 trips to Swedish in a hurry). If you're a stickler for on time... his first couple appointments in the morning=a-ok. First after lunch is good, too, since he works through lunch (saving lives) to catch up. If you're a complicated case and are willing to wait to get that true relaxed attention with him not hurrying much at all (and in my case him sharing cheese, grapes, apples, and crackers with me since I was clearly famished. I think my eyes bugged out with that "oh god I haven't eaten since" look)... well, take the last appointment, check in, and come back by 5:30 when the building closes (unless he's just really ahead, which the nurses will be passed out in the case of, since we're just not simple creatures!) My cat is the best thing in Seattle. I'm getting more and more convinced that Dr. Hodges is #2. He is awesome. Go let him save your life. You'll be warm and fuzzy feeling, too. Oh, and once you are established, if you have any urgent care, his whole clinic works AMAZINGLY well together and you can walk right in. He said so. 5 years ago we went in for our annual and this crazy doc spends two hours with me and my husband! He cracked jokes. He looked for signs that we laughed at them! He gave us references on the internet to go home and read about and much more! There has been no looking back since then! We insanely love our PCP! for all the time and effort he puts into his patients! He is totally amazing! And guess what all that extra time has been included in the free annual checkup fees (except for this 2016 one) Sadly his staff though very sweet, is overworked. We have had to contact them like 5 billion times and still have our issues unresolved! However since I am reviewing the doc's and not his clinic, I keep my review at 5 stars! read more

You can't put this Person less than 5*! When I lived in Seattle, Dr. Hodges was the only person who helped me with my anxiety. At that time he worked at Minor and James. I am glad he left that hospital because I didnt like that clinic much, for not everyone was as nice as Dr.Hodges is. He is the kindest Person ever! He is the best Doctor ever! He makes sure you will be in your good health and explains you everything about your health problems and how to get better. Unlike other doctors, He will take more time than usual with his patients. I have seen people waiting for him extra hour, because he was taking care of someone else but no one would complain, just say :"Well, this is Dr.Hodges!". They knew he will also take a good care of them too. I have seen people coming to him with broken legs and spine from another state, like a man from Portland. He was also waiting and told me that he came to see De.Hidges because he is the best internal medicine doctor. Now, few years later, when I am back in Russia, I still remember this doctor and with all my gratitude I want to thank him and say Happy New Year Mr.Hodges!!! I seriously question his knowledge in medicine when he recommended my elderly mother who has typical memory loss (mild dimentia) not to go out with our family for one overnight stay at a rented VRBO of being together with family. According to Hodges, this could "make her dimentia worse" and recommended against it. He cited research (sent me research papers since I asked for proof) on patients with dimentia that moved from home to assisted living drastically changing their living environment as the reason a one night away from home would be detrimental to her metal health. Ridiculous. My mother has been stuck in her house due to covid for all of this pandemic and a healthy (all vaccinated and tested negative yesterday) group of family in a loving environment was in his mind not good for her mental health and risk of causing her dimentia to worsen. I may not be a doctor but I am rational enough to know that this is absolutely ludicrous. It would have been good for him to give us precautionary measures or recommendations what to do, but to say it will be bad for her slight dimentia is unfounded in scientific or medical research as evidenced by the papers he cited. I would seriously consider someone else to see if you are thinking of him because I think as patients in these trying times, we deserve rational documented advice, not unsubstantiated advice that are not based on facts. read more

My first visit with Dr. Judges was great! He is very thorough and very knowledgeable in his field. He's very honest and tells it how it is. The professional assessment of one's physical presentation begins with a handshake greeting, as his trained eye garners more intel in 5 seconds than some physicians may ever attain!! He listens, measures, prods, and articulates, all while inquiring of more general issues and family status, which he remembers and incorporates into the patient history with true interest and concern, accomplished with the acuity of a skilled veteran: ordering pertinent labwork or therapeutic injections, titrating meds, considering referrals, and writing letters. Dr Hodges is hands down the best physician I've ever been to. And after being a long haul trucker covering forty-eight states and Canada for most of my adult life lets just say I've not only seen quite a few but they've varied both in location and skill level. I now have to face a one hundred plus mile round trip to continue to see him, and would do so even if I were living in NY! I too am one of the lives he has saved, not once but three times now. Once he caught and stopped a pulmonary embolism and only because he is so skilled and thorough and takes time to look pay attention to the small talk and see the real person beneath. I had just seen my primary the day before, (this person was a Family praticioner that Medicaid insisted I see before I could see Hodges) and had been told the condition that I was concerned about was probably nothing but come back back in a week or so and we'd look at it again. So when Hodges asked asked how I was doing I said fine but I was a bit embarrassed about being such a baby with my primary the day before. When I told him what had happened he got a concerned look on his face and started poking and prodding lol. The next thinning I knew he went into full blown life saving mode! I don't remember everything that happened after that because so much happened so quick but I do remember the word stat a lot while he did his best to reassure me. Needless to say I wouldn't have been alive for the one week follow-up appt the "Primary" wanted me to attend had it not been for Hodges! I personally have never complained once about the very long wait times because I know that had he not taken the time to listen to my chatter and then taken the considerable amount of time it took to look for, diagnose and treat a condition I wasn't even being seen for initially, I would not be here. This is why it breaks my heart to see him forced to write a letter to his patients requesting that they keep their ailments to one per visit! When I was handed this letter by the receptionist she informed me it was because they had, had so many complaints about wait times, and that most of their Dr's can process a patient every 15 mins. I know most corporate medical systems expect to Process patients every 15 minutes like cans of tuna on an assembly line and they think they can deliver quality medical care in that amount of time but speaking from one who has seen a huge amount of Dr's in my 53 yrs on this planet I know for a fact that this concept is the single largest failed experiment ever! What ends up happening is huge malpractice lawsuits as a direct result of those Dr's missing important information that they probably would have gotten in a few more minutes spent and more money spent on return or "followup" visits to give them the info they should have gleaned in that 15 min visit! So all I have to say is Dr. Hodges you, are an exceptional Doctor doing an exceptional job! Keep up the good work and don't let them bully you, and those of you that don't like the wait, make an appt with anyone else.
