But we all have *those* days, don't we (and they're usually Thursdays). The type of day where you fall out of bed late, there's nothing in, and you dash out of the door unfed and unprepared. Kelly's bakery is my saviour for these kind of days. Not only do I pass it on my way to work - so no further delays - but I can also get a breakfast butty, a filled roll for my lunch, a sweet treat (for the extra Thursday-ish Thursdays) and still have change from a fiver! My personal favourite is the chicken mayo salad roll - filled to the brim, there's greenery in there so it's obviously healthy, freshly made and only £1.40. So if you're dashing past here, do take a minute to swing in and get yourself something to eat - I promise you that Thursdays* are easier to handle with a happy belly. *bakery also available on other days

My colleagues have been talking about this newly opened shop in Carstorphine for some time now and…read moreI thought I will take the opportunity to pop by and sample some cakes. You might recognize the name from their previous location in Morningside. Sadly I did not stay for long as I was in a hurry, but the two empty leather sofas looked tempting to just grab a book, slurp a coffee and sample a cake. No, my aim was to get a few slices of cheesecake to share for a bigger party of nine. I ended up buying a whole cake for £25. Slices of cakes are about £3. I should mention that I was really lucky to get a full cake as normally they need an advanced notification of 24h's, what is completely understandable. Amazed by all the different types of scrumptious cheesecakes (maltesers, berries, mars bars, banana etc) on display, it was really hard to choose the one for me. Something simple was just right and I ended up with their most popular flavour of banoffee. Inside, the interior is very pink, but reflects the heart of the shop to be playful, gracious and of course scrumptious. There are a few shelves with accessories for sale. In one of the corners you will find a children's play area where they can enjoy their own tea parties. Just lovely! The place is very spacious and it makes it easy for mothers with pushchairs to maneuver around. The shop only opened about 9 weeks ago and already plays a big part in the community. Yes, people go there and enjoy a lovely and tasty cake with a hot beverage, having a chat, meeting friends or family, attending a knitting group on a Tuesday evening (open to anybody) and lots more. Ideas for other evening entertainments are very welcome by the proud owner Sam who also is the master baker and will try to accommodate your needs as much as she can. The staff is really friendly. Parking is around the corner or in another side road. Buses are frequent as its the main road to the airport. Just enjoy a quick shop after a nice rest and cake at Scrumptiousness!
Sitting here by myself with not even a book to read, I decided to review the place :)…read more I was looking for a birthday cake for a less 'cakey' more 'cheesey' person and happened on The Original Edinburgh Cheesecake Company' online. Most cake companies around Edinburgh charge upwards of £35 for a full cheesecake while I found they charged £25, not only that but it's their specialty so I hope it will be good! Tanja has given a really good description of the shop below. Pink, floral and girly. It's clearly been converted from a bag/shoe/clothes shop! Many of the previous features remain and the walls have been covered with pink sheets -weirdly, it sorta works. There's a kids play area but most of the kids here are sitting with their mothers, happily munching away on cake! On a Saturday afternoon, as I write this, the place is hopping! Plenty of large groups of women having tea and cake. I saw an afternoon tea cake stand nearby and many tables seem reserved. The staff are happy, smiling constantly and enjoying a chat with everyone! So, on to the negative...I ordered a cake last Sunday to be collected today. Unfortunately when I showed up I wasn't in the list for today - so no cake! I was able to show the emails to the staff and as we speak they are whipping me up a cake while I sit and relax with a free coffee! Their excellent manner, cheerfulness and willingness to make me a cheesecake on short notice to right their mistake goes to show how nice this place is! I feel that if you live in Corstorphine, or the surrounding area this place will be an absolute gem :)

A few years ago I lived on this edge of Marchmont and my nearest bus stop was almost slap bang outside this little place, and I can safely say I could count on one hand the number of times I didn't buy something from here whilst waiting for the bus. Being a small place, the service is really riendly and personal, and the staff recognise you after your first few visits. Or first few dozen, in my case. The quality of the things they make speaks for itself: local restaurants buy their bread instead of baking their own. But my personal favourites are their cakes - the Apple Bramble cake is so good you'll forget that calories even exist, and the Chocolate Chilli cheesecake isn't far behind. Yum.

That is where Morrison's Bakery comes in. Open until 5 am, this legendary bakery is packed with drunkards at 3am buying pies and sausage rolls. Everyone needs a bit of munch after a few drinks, and Morrison's provides that good bit of stodge you need to fill up your belly. It's quite pricey though, £2 for a pie! As a result, if you come here to buy some bread you will leave disappointed. The speciality of this shop is the pies it sells which are of great quality and very tempting. However, in the sober hours of the day this place is purely and simply too expensive and indeed the staff do not expect much business except at peak hours during the day and you can often end up waiting a good while to be served. I adored the lime, poppyseed, and blueberry roulade! It was gone before the soup and toastie sandwich arrived. Crispy on the outside and so very soft and tasty on the inside. The cookie pie was impressive, but I honestly liked the roulade so much better. The soup today was broccoli and it was delicious! I had a ham and cheese sandwich lightly grilled in a panini press. Mom had a chorizo sandwich. The ladies at the bakery were lovely! Friendly happy folk always make food taste better! The bakery was quiet and not busy at 12:30 pm. It wasn't empty, just not busy.
