Maybe I caught the guy at a bad moment, looking at other positive reviews, but I had an unusual & quite frankly terrible experience here..& I only wanted a warm sandwich. Went in and was eyeing the falafel wrap (their 'famous' wraps) & asked if it came with either humous or baba ganoush, the norm surely? The man flatly said no it's with...(something else that sounded odd I can't remember), so I said OK I'll leave it. I went to the other deli's in the street & couldn't see falafel, so I went back as the place looked rustic & nice. I then asked for a tuna melt as I wanted something warm (I was working at The Book Festival) but he said only what's in the fridge. Note, there was tuna mayo & cheese in the cold serveover. Now I don't know if their policy is not to make up sandwiches fresh but I was a bit disappointed with that service/reply.
*sigh*..so I went to the fridge to look at the pre-prepared sandwiches & decided on white ciabatta type of bread with ham, cheese & mustard. I took it to the lady & asked for it toasted, but she said she couldn't toast 'that one'. I was now a bit frustrated & remarked that I had run a sandwich/coffee shop for 6 years & thought this was unusual (I did..Beetlejuice). The man then mumbled something derogatory so I took offence & asked if he was on Yelp, my only weapon/defence.
He said he didn't want me in the shop..pretty much began walking towards me (I was in the doorway) so I asked him if he was throwing me out, to which he replied yes. First time for everything i guess...
I asked if he was the owner, what his name was, but he was rude, talking over me & wouldn't engage me in conversation.
I left, obvs.
Went round to Wolfit (where I usually go) & got a made to order tuna melt with red onion on a panini, (see other review!), for £3.60 & it was deliciouys..just what I had been looking for.
Now I don't usually write reviews as long as this but I was pretty shaken by my experience & felt threatened by this guy, standing nose to nose with me in the doorway.
As I said, maybe I caught him at a bad time, but I was never, ever rude to any customer in my 6 (long) years at Beetlejuice & felt this could have been easily dealt with.
