While branded as an ACE store--nothing against ACE, I've found them in various locations, including Madison, CT, to be consistently excellent--Ridgefield Hardware has the look and feel of a true, old-fashioned, independently run store. The staff are all very nice and very knowledgeable. While I use Ring's End for bigger projects, when I'm looking for something specific and cannot find it at Ring's End, I more often than not find that Ridgefield Hardware has what I need. If you don't see what you want quickly, just ask. The great team behind the cash registers at the front will ask when you come in if they can help. Don't be shy--tell them what you are looking for--unless you are just browsing or know exactly where the items you need are located. It will save you time and they'll alert someone to help you. I almost never post on-line reviews, but Ridgefield Hardware is fantastic and they deserve acknowledgement. DM from South Salem, NY

I already miss the helpful Posters Hardware in Fairfield. I ended up at Home Depo,t where they were surprisingly helpful and had what I needed at 1/10 of the price. I drive 20 minutes to get there, not only does he not understand what I'm looking for....they don't have it. He didn't even bother to look for what I was asking for when he said they had it. So I wasted my time during an incredibly busy day at work. I was pretty angry. All I got was "Sorry, man." Yeah, well, sorry you will be out of business soon.

To make matters worse, they had zero interest in rectifying their poor job. Stay away from these guys!

I can't think of a time I've visited when I wasn't approached by a salesperson offering help. The store is well stocked and immaculate, and they can even do repairs on some household items. In fact, I brought something in for repair last week and received a call just a few hours later that it was ready for pickup. And this kind of turnaround was on a Sunday! Prices are reasonable, and certainly reasonable enough to keep me out of Home Depot or Lowe's. Weed & Duryea saves me the trek and the annoyance.

On multiple visits, he stepped in and interrupted conversations I was having with staff, often in a dismissive and unhelpful way. It disrupted the interaction and made the experience unnecessarily uncomfortable. For example, I was asking about a hex key for my fridge handle. A staff member was explaining that the connection was worn out, and I was clarifying whether I could still get a key that fits the socket. At that point, Mr. Goldberg stepped in and said, "we're not doing repairs," which wasn't what I was asking. Similar interruptions have happened 2-3 times, so it doesn't feel like a one-off.

Kudos to the Department of Public Works for EXCELLENT snow removal on the side streets -- enabling parking. I called the day before to make sure I could pick up all the things that I would need to bring back home. I live in Maryland and we were hit with 6 inches of snow with a 4 inch layer of ICE on top. I will need to break the ice before I can clean my parking spot and front walk way. The guys at Goldbergs gave me advice on what i might need. As I browsed the store, I found extra gloves and that weird adapter that I've been looking everywhere for. Sorry -- Amazon, I would rather buy local! They even helped me get my things to the car. KUDOS... reasonable prices, good quality and they are more than willing to give you advice and help. You know it's reasonable when the guy in front of you is a contractor.

Unfortunately, this appears to have become standard practice rather than the exception. Attempting to impose restocking fees just one week after delivering a failed appliance, particularly when the defect has been confirmed by your installer, is not only unreasonable but raises serious ethical concerns. This is not how professional businesses operate. Stamford customers deserve to be treated with respect, fairness, and accountability. If your organization is unable or unwilling to provide that standard of service, perhaps it is time to make room for a company that values its customers and the Stamford community.
