Spears of endive with fresh crab and artichoke salad with scallions and lemon aioli
    Allison C.

Each year we try something new for our parties. We've done the hawaiian platter take-out, mexican take-out, home bbq and family "chef". So, our next step was to have it catered. Unfortunately, all the companies that we called were busy doing weddings. Then, one of them suggested Greenleaf, for the price and service. So here we are... Minimum order is 20 servings per dish. We have never done this before and were worried with the portion sizes and the fact that we did not have to "heat" anything up. Regarding the portion sizes it was just right with a little extra. And we are GOOD eaters too! It was great, they provided the food on the ceramic platters, with serving tools and menu cards describing each dish. They deliver, set-up and pick-up the stuff the next day, you don't even have to wash the stuff. YEAH!!!! Less work for me. NOT: * Frittata w/ potato, artichoke hearts, crimini mushrooms, caramelized onions, aged cheddar and fresh chives - It was cold, soft/soggy, felt like it was made the day before, out in the fridge and brought to us the next day. (It would have been better if it had a crunch, maybe next time I will pop it in the oven to give it a little crisp on the outside.) GOOD: * Salad of grilled shrimp, baby arugula, fresh tomato, haricot verts and hard boiled eggs with tangy louie dressing * Poached salmon with braised leeks and lemon tarragon aioli * Platter of sliced filet mignon, fresh herbs and a horseradish cream on the side GREAT: * Spears of endives with fresh crab and artichoke salad with scallions and lemon aioli - This is a MUST, everyone loved this. It looks simple, but when you bit into the flavors are great and the burst of the lemon aioli really brightens the dish. I would have given them 5 stars, but I was not too happy with the cold, soggy frittata. Not sure if this is how it is suppose to be, but I was expecting a "crunch" or something more. I would use them again, they have excellent customer service. Our next try will be catering with "hot" food.

The tastings were excellent, and we truly felt heard. They were open to our feedback and made adjustments based on our preferences. The cocktail hour was a highlight - the food was delicious and beautifully presented, and our guests were raving about it. However, the dinner service didn't go quite as smoothly. We were running a bit behind schedule transitioning guests from cocktail hour to their seats, and the catering team served all the food before everyone was seated. As a result, our meals - and many of our guests' - were cold by the time we ate. Additionally, wine and water weren't placed on the tables before the food service began, despite having discussed our wine service preferences in detail during a planning meeting. My husband, my dad, and our venue coordinator all voiced their frustration during the event, and it took longer than expected for the situation to be addressed. Some of the groomsmen even took it upon themselves to grab bottles of wine and serve guests directly, which was helpful, but clearly not something they should have had to do. On top of that, far too many bottles of wine were opened unnecessarily, so we had to send open bottles home with their staff instead of saving them for another occasion. That said, our guests still commented that the food itself was good. We just wish the day-of coordination had matched the quality of the planning phase. With a bit more attention to timing and execution, this could have been a five-star experience.

Cold, military-style, and deeply disappointing farewell from Standard Fare…read more.. My wife and I have been going to Standard Fare for over a year. The food was always good, but the service was never particularly warm--polite, efficient, and impersonal, like a well-drilled operation. Today we took a twenty-minute ride with our six-week-old baby for one last visit before they close for good. We arrived before their advertised closing time, yet were coldly denied service. There was no one waiting behind us, but we were met with an inflexible, robotic "sorry, we're closed." No one was overtly rude, but the interaction felt rigid and mechanical, as if following procedure mattered more than acknowledging the people standing in front of them. It would not have taken much effort to accept one last order from a loyal couple with a newborn--especially since nobody else was waiting behind us. In the end, Standard Fare is closing exactly as it operated: precise, rigid, and lacking warmth. Hopefully the next business in this location will treat its customers with a bit more empathy.

It was pretty hard to pick from the menu items, but I settled on the Frittata with a side of Fennel Sausage, sourdough toast and a Arnold Palmer. Although the seating was full, thank goodness out food came out just as some seats were emptying out. It was a chilly day and the outside seating was full too. The service was without any complaints. They did their best to accommodate all patrons despite it being very crowded and crazy busy. Overall I would come back here, probably right as the doors open to be guaranteed a place to seat and not have to wait and hope for a seat. Oh the music was on point!! Put it on your list, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
