I rented a boat here for the first time since it's the only place at Greenlake Park to rent. They have a little snack shack which I loved, I enjoyed some ice cream before my friend showed up to join me. We decided to rent a two seater kayak, there was no line, and the process was simple. We spent about an hour and a half out there, returning our equipment was just as easy. The staff was helpful and in good spirits, pricing overall is reasonable. It is a great spot for paddling or simply relax. I was here a couple of weeks ago for the Milk Carton Derby. It is super super fun watching the contest! Is a big party for all family members. Dogs are not aloud to swim in some parts. I believe there is a very tiny spot though. Green Lake has a easy trail that goes around it under the trees. We had a scratchy pedal boat that made the loudest sound and the steering was broken so we were going in circles. We played music at max volume and still could barely hear the music because of the scratchy pedals. We've rented these types of boats before so we aren't beginners and this was a terrible experience. Employees were unsympathetic and said that they were aware of the problem; however, they still lent us a broken boat even though there were so many other boats available (we went in the early morning). Not enjoyable; save your money and go get your rentals somewhere else! read more

It was a little disorganized here I wish they had a sign so we knew where we were going to get our boat and we wanted to do it in a timely fashion since we just had an hour. The boat rental was reasonable $25 for a 2 person paddle boat for a hour it is just $6 extra if you go a little over time. The employees were wearing masks and very friendly however heading out from shore and also coming into shore was disorganized no one seemed to be paying attention to us and there were no signs telling us where to go. It's SO easy to come, decide what you want to do, rent the equipment and get into the water! This was my first paddle board experience and it was very fun. The boathouse opens at 10 am. First come first served. I got there at 10:15 (my date was there at 10.... who gets on time to dates?!) and we went to get the equipment: you could paddle board, kayak, rent pedal boats, etc. You leave an id and pay for one hour. They give you life vests that you must wear and the paddles. Then you walk 20 steps and get what you paid for. And jump in for the fun!! Happy hour before 12 pm meaning half price $16 per person per hour. When you return the equipment they charge you the rest if you used more than one hour. Equipment was in good quality. Lake was calm and sun was shining. You should definitely try it! The lake is a little big but you can see the borders from anywhere. Oh parking was hard. I parked on the street since the tiny parking lot for the park near the boathouse was full when I arrived. And there are no lockers. Thankfully my knight in shining armor had parked his car nearby and I put my stuff there. He had a plastic waterproof thingy around his chest where he put his car keys. Took a double peddle boat out with a date and her dog. Good way to spend a sunny afternoon. The service and landing attendants were friendly and fast enough. The cost was $22/hr. I thought the equipment was in good condition. The peddle boat itself was a bit eh. Our boat did not deal well with the moderate (~50-60lbs) weight imbalance between me and my date so there was some sort of constant bias in the steering and boat level. The boat is also pretty short in length. At 5' 9" I was even reaching the limits of being able to comfortably peddle. The peddles are also pretty small and easy to lose grip of which makes it more annoying to use. It would be good if they offered people some type of key or bag floaty thing for their belongings (wallet, phone, keys) as I witnessed a handful of people lose stuff in the lake. read more

I want to be VERY clear that this is about the operation of the business of Greenlake Boat Rentals, NOT my experience while I was out on the water in the paddleboat. I don't know how they can say they're open "11am til dusk, weather permitting" (that quote is straight from their website), and then close down their credit card machine before 6pm on a Tuesday in July when it's 85 degrees out and sunny. We got back to shore a little after 6pm and needed to pay for 1.75 hours on 3 boats ($63 they said). We couldn't use my credit card because they told us "the manager has already zeroed out the card machine". We had to bust a move all the way to the market to get cash and hurry back so they didn't close up shop with our IDs still inside. LAME LAME LAME. It's not like they weren't busy - there were still at least 6 or 7 paddle boats out on the water, one was even launching right as we were landing! Initiating the rental was a piece of cake, and they were helpful with launching and everything. Of course we had a great time while we were tooling around the lake! But this experience of trying to settle our balance at the end of the day really harshed my groove of the fabulous time we had just spent on the water! read more

Floating around greenlake in a small craft (paddle boat, canoe, stand-up paddle board, etc.) = Ideal second-date material. NOT recommended for a first date, especially a blind date. Total isolation in the middle of a lake with someone who may or may not be a "psycho hosebeast" (as Wayne and Garth would say) = a terrible idea. But once you've established that this is, in fact, someone you'd like to spend some quality alone time with? Perfection. You're essentially alone, and yet you're still out in public, so you get all the intimacy with none of the pressure and nerves. Also, it's a fun, unusual date activity that will get you remembered, and probably get you a third date (or more!). The only reason this place gets 4 stars instead of 5 is that the staff varies widely in terms of expertise and helpfulness. Hopefully you'll catch them on a good day... read more

My roommate, her friend from Portland and I came here last weekend with the thought of Kayaking!! We showed up, spent some time tooling around the parking lot until we got a spot and headed into the boat shack. Greeted by two college kids, we asked about the best idea for us to boat together and they suggested canoeing. The price now is about $14 per hour not including tax, per boat rental not per person. That's right, for an hour of fun we each had to spend the dismal amount of $4.60!!! Nice. There are also options of paddle boats, reg. row boats and of course the kayaks or canoes. Piling into the canoe with the help of another college guy, we took off on our little adventure. Trying not to tip over (well, I did rock the boat a few times to make them squeal and have a little chuckle to myself), we rowed over to that mysterious little Island in the middle of Green lake. It's cool!! I so wish I could camp there. The staff are chill and relaxed. When bringing back the paddles and life vests, the guys just took the stuff and said enjoy the rest of your day. Casual and carefree like. I like! I'm down to do this way more often, if the homies allow me to be in their boat again. read more

Had such a fun time here! I came with two friends and we rented standing paddle boards. It cost $15/person which I thought was a bit much, but at the same time it was unique fun. When we arrived and paid, they gave us size-appropriate life jackets and helped us adjust our oars to our heights. We walked to the water where two more employees helped us get on our boards. From there we had an hour to paddle around. So much fun! Something I didn't really like was that you didn't have any idea how long you'd been out there-- for example, we didn't have a watch with us. What I liked about Greenlake boat rentals was they give you a 15 minute grace period in case you're a bit tardy, and in my experience they were quite lax and flexible in that regard. I would definitely recommend renting here-great people and lots of outdoor fun! read more

At approx $12/hr it is cheaper than a movie or even a few latte's, really. Andddd let's be real, they don't really track how long you're out there. :) So GREAT service if you ask me. They only lose 1 star because we had to wait a little over an hour for our boards when they said it would only be 10mins. WOMP WOMP. Quick and easy rentals - exactly what I was looking for. It was a warm Saturday in Seattle and while walking around Greenlake with the kids we decided to take them paddleboating for the first time. Despite the park being packed and the lake already full of boats, boards, and swimmers we didn't have to wait long at all. An ID for collateral and quick credit card swipe got us life jackets and we were nicely helped into our paddle boat and on the water within a few minutes. The staff was friendly and even offered to take a few pictures of us all together. While out on the water we decided to stay a little longer and we came back to find that despite not offering half hour rates up front they only charged us for an the extra half hour we stayed out. The rental was extremely affordable at $16/hour (coming out to just $4/hour per person in our case). We had a blast and the whole experience was simple from beginning to end. I have nothing to compare them to yet so I'll withhold a five star rating, but I will definitely never hesitate to use them again if getting out on Greenlake is my goal. read more

We had so much fun here! We chose rowboats, which my brothers and I never have done, so it is much harder than it looks! We eventually gave up and ended up paddling because we weren't making much progress with our poor rowing technique. A maximum of 3 people are allowed for the rowboats, and 1 person (in the middle) does the rowing. The lake is very large so plenty of room to go around. We also saw that there is kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, pedal boating, and even sailing available. I definitely recommend coming in the morning because there are fewer people and it is also cheaper (before 12pm it is $18 per hour; after 12pm it is $25. It's a great deal!). The employees were also very professional and friendly. Even though we were a little bit over our time, they didn't charge us extra. I highly recommend coming here, whether it is your first time or if you like to do any of these activities on a regular basis. read more

Lots of rental options! The life jackets are relatively new and clean. The staffs are happy and friendly, which will certainly add to your day out. They do not round up the time for the hourly charge, so don't sweat about reaching the shore at an exact time. I visited Greenlake over the Labor Day weekend with three other people (three adults and a kiddo) - we rented the four person paddle boat. I was expecting to wait since it's a first come first serve sort of business (and considering it was a sunny afternoon and a long weekend) and there wasn't a wait at all - the whole rental process took maybe 3 minutes. It was a little physically awkward getting into the paddle boat but after that - smooth sailing. Actually, the whole experience was more of a work out than any of us anticipated but we took breaks and drifted when the kiddo needed a break. We paddled around Greenlake for almost an hour and it was absolutely beautiful - I absolutely recommend it on a sunny day in Seattle. While Greenlake was beautiful, the best part of the entire visit was Captain Toby who helped us at the end of our trip. One of my guests has/had some medical issues in the past and struggled getting out and Toby went above and beyond showing kindness and patience. He held her hand and was very gentle throughout the whole process. So I just want to praise him for doing an outstanding job and being a great human. Thanks Toby! read more

I like that I can rent a kayak for an hour or two here and I don't have to commit to buying one. If you go early in the morning, the $16/hr rate is a pretty good deal especially if you're getting a 2 person kayak. Took a friend who had never been kayaking here and it was the perfect place to get her started. Green Lake is serene and peaceful, with very non-intimidating water to paddle around in. I know, GL isn't supposed to be the cleanest water, but when you're in a kayak, who cares! The boathouse staff were friendly, and this seemed like a nice summer job! They helped us in and out of our kayaks (which requires stepping down into the kayak from a stair in shallow water) and made my friend feel a great deal more comfortable. I'm pretty loyal to Agua Verde when I rent out of Lake Union but am glad there's a reliable place I can take friends who aren't as confident on the water to be in such a high traffic area. I have rented paddleboards from greenlake boathouse for the last two summers. Staff are always courteous and knowledgeable. This is a great place for first timers: no boats to worry about and the lake is fairly small. In fact, I just recently brought my nephew (8yo) and niece (3yo) paddling for their first time (on my board of course). They were scared at first but warmed up quick and absolutely enjoyed themselves. You can also take your dog with too! It is convniently located right on the lake so you don't have to worry about carrying and securing the boards on top of a car; something I've had to do with other companies. It gets busy on sunny, weekends and keep in mind parking can be a hassle.. you can park at PCC and buy some snacks there to get the parking ticket validated. No reservations; first come first serve. I rented a paddle boat for $22/hr. It looked like a fun (yet pricey) way to spend a summer afternoon with the family. Upon sitting down in the boat, I could see that there was going to be a problem. I'm a pretty big guy, 6', 220lbs.and I wear a size 11 1/2 shoe. There is not enough clearance in the paddle boat for me to peddle. Worse yet, when I put any pressure on the seat back, it would pop off nearly sending me backwards into the water. The boat was extremely uncomfortable and painful on my neck and back. We still managed to have a pretty decent time floating around on the lake. I'd love to have my $22 back. I am going to need it for a chiropractor. read more

I went here yesterday with my best friend. Their parking lot needs to be bigger. Really, theres a little parking lot that can fit about 30 cars in there.... That's not gonna fly too well for some people who are lazy on a hot day in Greenlake. The boat rentals were fine. The employees were friendly and cooperative. It got tiring paddle-boating from one end of the lake to the other, but the exercise is awesome. It's a good place to go if you just want to chill and relax. With the sun beating down on you, and just enjoying the view of everything... take it all in. The one thing I really didnt like about this lake, though.. is that it doesnt seem to be very clean.. I look down near the shallow end: there are like trees and moss and algae covering EVERYTHING. who knows what could be inside it. I look down in the deep end: everythings murky and eerie seeming. It's really deep (as lakes usually are) and i shudder to think what's going on down THERE. But overall, this lake is fun and a pretty chill place to just hang out with your friends/family. One of my favorite places to go for paddle boarding. Maybe 5-7 times every summer because the water is so calm. We travel from Kent and auburn. This last time though we got there 45 mins to close due to traffic. Took 2 toddlers and one new paddler. Was turned down even when we just wanted to be next to the shore for the little ones to enjoy. It was pretty disappointing to the little ones. Wish they would post last rentals cut off times on here. This was our first time at green lake boathouse. We were told by the guy working at the lakeside that two of us needed to sit in the back to peddle the boat. However, the adjustable back support on one of our seats would not stay in place when we were peddling out on the lake. This was dangerous as one of us couldn't peddle correctly. When we got back to the lakeside and politely complained the guy working there said it was defective and it needed to be tightened. When he asked us why we didn't switch to the empty seat in the front and we explained that we had followed his directions to sit in the back, we were told "nobody listens to me anyway". The people at the desk gave a collective shrug when we told them about it. Everyone was very polite before we had paid. After they had our money they didn't care.
