As you can probably guess from the name of this business, Pound Bakery offers all your bakery goods…read moreat no more than one English pound. Quite why they've decided to offer sausage rolls, pies and pasties at one pound when you can usually get one for a bit less, I'm not sure; even when you do pay more than a pound for a pasty in Greggs or Sayers, it's not too much more and it's not so much more that you'd rather not pay it. Especially when their goods are generally pretty tasty and of a higher quality than here. Their selection of savouries and sweets are pretty impressive and rival the other local bakers in the area, but with Greggs and the excellent Greenhalghs just down the way from them, I'd say that Pound Bakery is a place you should go if you literally only have a pound to spend for your dinner. But then again, you can't get a drink. Or some sort of accompaniment, which we all know is imperative to your lunchtime snack.

The store that caught my attention was the Stretford Mall shop, and I decided to go there since 2 pasties for £1 seemed very reasonable. Greggs are usually £1.85 for 2 pasties, so it at least 85% cheaper than it's rival. The selection of pasties seemed very impressive, better than greggs. And 2 loafs for £1 seemed another great steal. Hot drinks are 50p each and cakes are £1, again great value all rounded to a pound or less. Overall great value for money, good selection and quality that doesn't seem to differ with greggs. It caters for everyone, not just those on a budget, like it very much!

When you enter, you'll probably struggle to find seating as this local Cafe has become the hang out place for Mum'n'Kids, Pensioners and the odd student who likes a good coffee. I absolutely ADORE Mama Bears Cakes & Bakes!!! I live in the US, and my boyfriend lives in the UK,…read moreand I wanted to send him something super special for our anniversary. After searching endlessly and fruitlessly for weeks online for someone who could make exactly what I wanted, accept payment internationally, and deliver it to my BF, I messaged Mama Bear's, and the owner is an absolute ANGEL. She worked with me to decide on exactly what to create. Even though the things I asked for aren't typically items that she makes, she told me that she was a "romantic" and would be happy to make a special order for me. She even ended up adding decorations on her own because she wanted to make it extra special! Such a lovely person to work with!!! Her husband hand-delivered the cake & chocolate-covered strawberries to my boyfriend on our anniversary and even passed along a special message. My boyfriend was totally surprised and absolutely impressed with the presentation of the gift itself. He also said that the cake and strawberries were incredibly DELICIOUS!!! He really tried to ration them out to last longer, but they were so good he couldn't help eating them within about a week and a half haha. Mama Bear is the greatest, and if you live in the area, you should DEFINITELY choose her shop! I'd be there for coffee and baked goods daily if I didn't live across the pond! haha.

There is not one thing on the menu that doesn't make your mouth water. This is a bakery with a difference. Not only does it sell the most delicious cakes and pastries - but it also seels the cakes and pastries that other shops long ago stopped making! The range covers apple danish slices (my own personal favourite), to lemon meringue pie slices, carrot cake, chocolate muffins, malteser crunch cakes and their speciality Dickson Road cakes, invented 60 years ago for the daughter of the family. The savoury pies, pasties and sandwiches are all incredible. They use the absolute BEST ingredients and as somebody who will not eat meat products for fear of finding a bit of gristle, you should see me wolf down their sausage rolls and lamb hotpot! The hotpot is available in single portions, 6 person trays or 10 person trays and can be bought hot or taken home and oven baked. They also do incredible cakes (at short notice too!) for any event you can think of. Their home delivery party/buffet service has an extensive menu and is always delivered on time and with a happy, smiling face. Not only do they provide plastic cutlery free of charge but also paper tablecloths, napkins and even a binbag to clear up afterwards! It is also the cheapest bakers I have ever bought from - how they make a profit on some of the items I will never know. If you ever find yourself in Cleveleys, PLEASE try this bakery. Treat yourself to hotpot and toffee cake and you will never look back!
