Thomas helped by showing me that the high humidity we have been experiencing contributed to the problem.

I got a quote from them in 2019. My granddaughter was diagnosed with cancer shortly after this,…read morethen Covid hit so insulation priorities weren't so important. I finally requested a new quote this spring. The exact same job I was quoted in 2019 was almost 3X higher! That's 3X in six years! Original quote was $1800 in Feb 2019, new quote was $5300 for the exact same thing. So I did some research to see if I was over reacting. I reached out to ChatGPT to see if labor and material costs had increased enough to justify the new price. It said no way! No, the $5,300 quote is not fair. If: The scope hasn't changed The spray foam type and thickness are the same They never came out to remeasure The original 2019 quote was $1,800 Then jumping to $5,300 (an almost 300% increase of the original cost) is well beyond reasonable, even accounting for: 45% material increases 20-30% labor cost hikes Higher fuel and insurance costs What Would Be Fair? Using the 2019 price as a base: Factor Estimate Increase Adjusted Price Materials (open-cell) ~45% ~$2,610 Labor/overhead/fuel/etc. ~30% ~$3,400 max A reasonable 2025 price: $2,800-$3,400 Not $5,300. So I checked Gemini and Grok AI engines to make sure I covered all bases. They confirmed that the the price increase was unjustified. Grok said: The nearly 300% increase exceeds general inflation (~20-30% from 2019-2025) and construction cost trends (~40-50% per Turner Building Cost Index). Insulation-specific increases (50-100%) suggest a $1,800 job in 2019 should cost $2,700-$3,600 in 2025. Gemini said: a near 300% increase (from $1,800 to $5,300) in 6 years is at the very high end of what might be considered justifiable given the market conditions. Increases of 50-100% (or even up to 150%) for some materials and services over that period have been seen, but 300% is extreme. Given the ridiculous price increase, I would be very leery of using them based on their pricing model. As all 3 AI engines suggested, Get Multiple Quotes: Contact 2-3 local contractors for competitive bids.

I was a bit frustrated because they were offering cookie cutter solutions/services without really identifying the issue(s) causing the extreme cold. I called Dr Energy Service (DES) and was fortunate to have the owner, Chris Shepard come out and provide an energy audit. As you can imagine with the age of our home, he discovered there is no insulation in the walls, ceilings of the 1st floor and to make matters worse, our furnace is located in the attic, which means the solution must push heat down to the lower level! This is a unique situation which called for unconventional solutions. Chris listened, educated , and offered budget friendly options, including those that did NOT use their services. He was a man of integrity, patience, and knowledge. We were very cold, and he could have taken advantage of the situation and sold us all kinds of services; but he didn't! That spoke volumes and this year I called him back and together we determined a plan of action to warm our home. On 12/31, the crew (Jordan, Tyler, Cameron, Brayden, and Jake) came out to perform the work. The guys were punctual (8:15am), professional, courteous, and worked non stop the get the work completed in a timely manner. They kept me in the loop of the work planned and a few minor changes to the plan, that often come with an older home. They cleaned up, actually left things cleaner than when they started (Don't judge me lol) I am extremely happy and I highly recommend DES and hopefully when you book your project(s), you will be lucky to have the awesome crew I had at your home.

Was referred through an AEP energy audit as Energy Tech is one of their preferred and "well…read morereviewed" contractors. Unfortunately, the work never progressed past the estimate. Communication issues with the main office abounded starting with scheduling the estimate. Once I was finally able to schedule, the estimator was unable to wrap his head around a request for two separate estimates: one for attic work and one for basement work--he twice had to redo the estimates and they still weren't done correctly. At that point, he said that he needed to check with the owners and that they would call back that day. He also left a flashlight at my house, which I called the office and left a message notifying them that I had left it outside for the estimator to pick up at his convenience. One week later after radio silence and no flashlight pickup, I had to call them back and leave another message. Finally got a call back, asking when I wanted to schedule an estimate. Another several calls back and forth and I still don't have a correct estimate and I'm likely out a $250 credit from AEP as well. Bottom line: until communication issues are fixed, it appears that Energy Tech isn't all that interested in taking new clients!

They also scheduled a free Columbia Gas energy audit for us. After we hired them to do the job, they are were respectful of us and our home, showed up on time and cleaned up after themselves. They even filed all the paperwork for us to get a sizeable rebate check from Columbia Gas! Amazing! After the workday, we noticed a few bubbles in our interior wall. We called them up and they came back out to take a look. Turns out the blowing in of insulation had dislodged some drywall nails which in turn hit the layers of paint, popping out a bubble on the wall. Though this wasn't exactly their fault, they paid to have it fixed anyways. Really great experience working with Energy Tech and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to insulate their home.

My initial Research into radon companies on Google leaned me towards clean air so I set up the free consult. Seems to be a small family outfit and my first appointment had to get cancelled because of a sick child which is perfectly understandable. The next day was a blizzard but my evaluator Kathleen was a super trooper and made it out anyways despite the snow. She had the assessment wrapped up in under 20 minutes and I was able to get a estimate in hand less than an hour later through email. She was also able to recommend me a great plumbing service g&m which I used to voluntarily replace my sump pump prior to sealing the sump pump system off. Since my concrete basement slab did not have any major cracks or fissures exposing gravel beneath the system would only require ceiling off the sump well and installation of an exhaust system. Quoted price came in around $900. Installation of the mitigation system was painless on my end. Installer was on site maybe 2 hours. He did track some mud in the house so if it is a wet day I'd keep a keen eye on shoe removal or ask them to use booties if they have them. Work was good however with snug fit and everything looked clean and professional inside and outside of the home. After clean air did their installation they left behind a electronic sampling station. Within the first 13 hours my radon level had dropped from 8 to .8 which seemed unrealistic to me. On further investigation I found that this is an obtainable goal through a combination of the large gauge pipe that they used to exhaust and the short half-life of radon. I also conducted my own post mitigation testing with another round of first alert carbon traps 2 weeks later and confirmed the level at .8 All in all total cost came in under my expected budget oh, and I'm very satisfied with the results and knowledge that my kids aren't rolling the dice on lung cancer when playing in my basement. I enjoy working with small family businesses and would recommend these guys.
