The last time I was here was about ten years ago and times have not been kind to this Shopping Mall. It is still clean but about half or maybe more of the shops are unoccupied, the food court is pretty sad, and one of the anchor stores is gone. The stores that remain seem to be very slow and overall there are only few customers in the mall. I think about 30 cars were near Macy's where I parked. The Mexican restaurant Abuelo's looks like it is closed down but signs are still there but zero customers so I think it was closed. The only store that looked semi-busy was the Chinese massage place where there were about four people being massaged and one customer waiting. I honestly was just looking around to get some exercise on a cold day but I really couldn't find anything I really wanted to buy even if I was searching for something. There were also lots of kids just using the mall as a playground but they seemed to enjoy the empty mall. The highlights of my visit was the sports memorabilia store and the pet store. They were also the only places that the clerks engaged me to see if I needed any help. I guess we have to just get used to the slow death of shopping malls in the future and realize online shopping is here to stay. read more

Round up to 2.5 stars if primarily for shopping Round up to 3 stars for mall walking Met up with a friend and my sister to go mall walking since the heat was intense. It reminds me of a two story version of Pembroke Mall (RIP). They renovated the mall since I was last there. It looks cleaner and modern(ish). There are a lot of vacancies including where Reignforest tea was. We walked the entire perimeter of the top floor once and then the perimeter of the bottom floor twice which was an estimated 1.5 miles. Not a very far walk, but it was with intensity. A few notable stores in the mall were Macy's, rack room shoes and bath and body works. Otherwise, the mall was pretty dead with little activity. The food court was the area that was most booming with activity but it still felt like a ghost town. If you've ever seen zombie apocalyptic movies, it kind of has the vibes like the mall you would be running into to escape from the zombies. 11/16/20: I stopped by really quickly to return something to Victoria's Secret. Can you say ghost town?? Walking in, there were signs posted reminding customers to social distance & stores had sanitizer at the entrances. A LOT of stores were closed. It was just weird to see. I get why, but I haven't been to a mall since before Covid. So, this was shocking to witness. The parts of the mall I was in were clean. 1 of the escalators weren't working, so I used the elevator to get to my store. There is a limit of 4 people per elevator trip. I think that's too many due to the tiny size of the elevator. Customers and staff wore masks. I felt safe there. I will go back if necessary. read more

The roof has so many leaks we were walking and it dripped right on us it was gross. Seeing all the stains is crazy they have so many leaks and not enough buckets. The one BIG plus is they have a really cute Pop-it kiosk shop which was awesome for my children! They had so many great options from animal, cars, and food pop it's! read more

I've seen Greenbrier Mall change personality so many times in the 30+ years since I've been old enough to remember walking around it. In fact, I worked in a small gift shop there (anyone remember Cilla's tucked away where Picadilly, the sports memorabilia and shoe repair used to be) for several years over 2 decades ago. Man, I feel old! When it first opened, my aunt and grandmother worked in Picadilly, so we were frequent visitors to the mall. Today, it feels like a shell of the former self. I can't count how many stores have come, gone or moved locations. How many times the food court establishments have changed. How many anchor stores have also closed shop or changed occupants (Leggett's, Hechts, anyone?). Given the boom of online shopping, it was inevitable that many smaller retailers would be doomed. Greenbrier is a glaring example of such. There are so many vacant spots and plenty of stores that, though open, don't seem to have any foot traffic (even pre-Covid). The mall itself is kept clean, but it doesn't have the appeal of window-shopping. Many stores have closed fitting rooms, so I wouldn't go with the intention of wardrobe shopping right now. The mall's downturn, like so many others, seems to be just a sign of the times. read more

This Mall gives me hope as far as stores to shop around in. I normally don't shop at the mall, I'm an online millennial who loves a wider selection with the allure of not leaving my home but I can definitely find a few things to buy at this mall. This mall has maybe 6 stores with my kind of wardrobe selection. What it doesn't have that has earned it a 3 star in my opinion - A Wells Fargo ATM (only has 1 Atm in the whole mall which is Bank of America) -A full Sephora store (small Sephora store located inside JCPenny's) - A very small food court This mall does have a movie theater, what there calling a cinema cafe which only plays maybe 4 movies since its a pretty small theater. What I like about this mall is that the parking is free, unlike MacArthur. read more

Neatly laid out and well spaced mall that was easy to shop. Not as many cell phone repair kiosks and shops as I've come to expect, but there were still at least three. Anchors include Dillards, Sears, Macy's and JC Penney. Food court has the usual varieties of "ethnic" food including Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, Pizza, Sushi, Sandwiches and Philly Cheesesteak. Plenty of parking, lots of entrances. Maybe not as many ways to get from one level to the other. read more

I purchased a watch with them and the turn know wouldn't turn so l took the watch back to get tightening up. I barely wear the watch because l feel it might tarnish..l might have worn it maybe 3 times since l purchased it. So l noticed the know had fell completely off so l went back to get it fixed or exchanged. Aslam refused to fix it nor offer an exchanged. I didn't want any money just wanted my watch fixed. I heard good and bad reviews from this mall ,but I haven't had a chance to experience anything bad about it. Decent food court and clean mall with maybe outdated carpet running thru it ,but that's about the gist of it. It doesn't have full on fancy brand stores ,but you get the regular ones here that's just fine. Ulta is normally inside a mall ,but it's merely across the street . I went the cinema cafe to watch a movie. The movie ended at 11pm. I don't know who was working their the night of 22-Dec-23 but a man riding a floor cleaner who works for the mall forced me to exit on the opposite section of where I was parked. I am 9 months pregnant and had to walk outside in the dark UP HILL!!!! Then I saw other people exiting through the same exit I needed to take to be closer to my car. Whoever the mall hires to clean the floor at night needs to get reprimanded. read more

Malls are on the decline thanks to Amazon. Greenbrier Mall is on life support. When you have to start putting lounge chairs and flat screen TVs inside un-leased retail space, you know you're in trouble. The mall itself remains well kept, but the glory days of walking around the mall to see what's new are sadly languishing. read more

So any mall that doesn't have a Nordstrom is not a real mall. Dillards was ok I guess, but the rest of the mall was pretty scary! It was empty. Their Pink store look like my closet. I was scared to go in there! It was so small. It was back to school time, a Saturday night and the mall wasn't that crowded. It was pretty empty and that right there alone should have been a red flag. There was one boutique that I went to that was having a moving sale. Everything in her store was $5. How the mighty have fallen. This used to be a great mall with a lot of energy and nice stores. It has became the "Used-to-be" mall replete with empty locations and dollar shops. The outside is dirty and trash abounds. This is in need of a serious facelift but I suspect with online shopping so prevalent it isn't going to happen. This is the closest mall to my house so I come here very often. It's always clean, there are a lot of entrances and a huge parking lot. Compared to MacArthur where you have to pay for parking. (It's not expensive though, $1 an hour) For some reason, it's usually dead and I think it's because of the kind of stores they have. It's always worth visiting VS, Dillard's, bath and body works, Express, American Eagle and even Macy's. Some other stores are not. I've heard they have redone the carpeting and change some stores which is good. I would recommend to visit this mall besides the bad reviews. And I would love to see Forever 21 here one day! I'll keep visiting this mall since they have stores I love going and it's only 15minutes away from home. read more

Greenbrier Mall is one of the better malls in the Hampton Roads area. It's two stories and has several department stores (Sears, JCPenney, Macy's etc) as well as a large Food Court. Usually this mall is pretty quiet and calm and perfect for an afternoon of shopping. There is also a Cinema Cafe inside of the mall. Despite its age Greebrier mall is still hustling and bustling after being open for about 20-22 years. My god I just realized this thing opened when I graduated high school. The mall has 2 levels and is anchored by 4 large department stores. Sears, JC Penny, Macy's & Dillards. In between you have your usual hodge podge of mall stores, and a large food court. There is also a Cinema Cafe which is a movie theater you can dine in and recently Jillian's moved their restaurant and entertainment center from Waterside in Norfolk down to the mall as well. Things are looking good for GBM. It's well lit, clean, and taken care of. Definitely a place you can take the family. read more

Quiet mall. Love the movie theater here. The employees are wonderful. Decent food court with average mall fare. There isn't typically a TON of foot traffic so you can run in and out on any day of the week without the fear of a simple mall trip becoming a 2 hour nightmare. This mall has seen better days. It's virtually always dead in here, even during the holidays when it's possibly a little bit busier. The anchor stores (sears, J.C. Penney, Macy's and Dillard's) are all relatively slow and don't pull in too many customers unless they're having a huge sale. This mall used to bring tons of business to the area during the 90's and early 2000's. In fact, growing up in this area it was the place to be on a Friday night and on the weekends. Greenbrier mall has seen a steady decline in the class of the customers and the business it brings to the mall over the past few years. Many of the most popular stores have been replaced by no-name stores that typically go out of business within a few months to a year. I used to work at the VS at this mall and since it has been remodeled and it looks incredible. One of the only good stores left in this mall. The mall is now used for people who want to workout or for teens to hang out. The food court has even seen a decline. The McDonald's even went out of business- that should speak volumes. Overall if you're looking to find something specific you probably will have a hard time doing that here because most of the speciality stores that you would look for at a mall aren't going to be found unless you make the extra trip to MacArthur Center or Lynnhaven mall. I wouldn't be surprised to see it going out of business within the next few years. read more

For what it's worth, this is a decent mall. I can find things that I like in Macy's, Dillards, JCP, Torrid, Bath and Body Works and NY & CO. That's the extent of it for me. Quite disappointed with my visit to the mall tonight. We had a couple gift cards to spend so we decided to trek on over to Chesapeake before having dinner at Passion. I've always been a fan of the mall. They have a lot of the stores I like as well as a Macy's that I've always gone to for dress shirts and ties. We first stopped in at Sears (where we entered), made a quick purchase for gloves and quickly moved on over toward the mall. Perhaps it was cabin fever because of the snow days but it seemed like every teenage kid in Chesapeake was hanging out at the mall. Not a big deal... I worked at a mall in college and I know that teenagers like to go to malls. Here's where I was bothered. Working at a mall for years I always saw a security guard roaming around doing his/her job. The security guards would say hi and check in with all the stores. He/she was just the friendly person keeping an eye out on things. Tonight, I saw two cops. That was a red flag. Did I miss something? Why the police instead of the Paul Blart: Mall Cop and why two of them? It just made me feel as if some ish was about to go down and the 5-O was called in to handle business. Maybe a weekend thing? Sadly, the mall was full of trash. What was once a clean place to walk around seemed like a big trash can to me. Food packages, empty drink containers and actual food was all over the floors. Even worse were the spilled drinks on the carpet. Even after seeing all that we had to walk through a bunch of unruly kids yelling curse words at each other in their regular conversation. Not a good environment to listen to if you're a family walking around with kids. We made it two stores inside the mall and decided to leave right away. I'll pay my visit to anchor stores when I have the need to but walking through this mall (hell, any mall for that matter - just too many damn people bunched up in one place is enough a problem for me) will be far and few between. read more

Definitely not the best mall in the area. My family's house is 5 minutes away but I often find myself driving 15+ minutes to Lynnhaven Mall or MacArthur Center. But Greenbrier Mall is okay. They've finally done some renovations a and the food court looks really nice. There's also a decent selection of food. The stores are okay. Yeah, just okay. I wish they had a Forever 21 or an H&M. This is a run down mall. There's trash everywhere inside and out. It seems as if the owners just gave up on it.

If you're used to higher-end malls, then this isn't the place for you. You judge a mall based on its anchors. If any of those anchors include Sears, JCPenney or Dillard's, then you're in trouble if you're looking for high-end. However, if you're looking for sneakers, then Greenbrier will fit your needs. Champs, Footaction, and Foot Locker should suit your whims. I don't believe that high-end malls exist in this area, but MacArthur Mall in Norfolk is as close as you're going to get. I remember when this place was filled with beautiful, live trees. I'm not sure why they got rid of them. Many quality shops have left and are now replaced with stores that I have no interest in whatsoever. The stores that I usually visit when I come are Sears, Macy's, JC Pennys, and Dillards. I visit these stores typically when there is a sale or there's an item that I can't seem to locate anywhere else. On this particular visit, I was with my mom and daughter and we were looking for items to complete her outfit for her awards ceremony. Unfortunately, we didn't luck up on anything here. The mall is clean and orderly. They have a curfew and security guards throughout the mall. They have a food court with two Asian fast food spots, a Chick-Fil-A, Taco Bell, and a few other fast food restaurants. There is a Green Turtle Sports Bar and Grill located at the main entrance and an arcade in the Food Court and 1st floor. There is a small children's play area at the rear of the food court. The Cinema Café here is located on the first floor. read more
