To be totally fair I chose Green Zebra after quite a bit of research, comparing and contrasting similar tours in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area so I knew pretty much what to expect in regards to the tour. Our guide, Brian, was super friendly and knowledgeable. He let the group choose how to spend our time (more driving vs. educational tidbits) which was great. Water was offered before the tour started and during, with a full ice chest strapped on to one of the Tomcars, which was easily accessible during any of the stops. The only bummer was that we had to wait for a group of gentlemen, who were a bit late and worse for wear, which cut into our actual drive time. All things considered though, my fiancé and I had a blast and I would go again in a heartbeat!!! read more

Even if you have a car, let Green Zebra pick you up from your hotel. On the way there, I was a bit restless that the ride took so long but on the way back, I was glad that I didn't get my dirty self into our own car. Trust me, you will get very dirty. There were 3 of us in the Tomcar and it cost $129+tax for the first 2 people and $59+tax for the 3rd person. There are 3 switching points so you can have 4 drivers total. With our huge goggles and bandanas covering the bottom half of our faces, we looked like a group of bank robbers. The 3rd leg is the most fun to drive and of course, I was the one who drove that section. I am an aggressive driver and the guide car didn't drive fast enough for my aggressive personality. However, it was probably for the better since we should always put safety first. read more

On a recent 'business trip' to Scottsdale, my fellow co-workers and I had an entire free day to ourselves, and wanted to see the sites of Arizona. I was dying to go hiking, but the rest of the crew seemed keen on 'dune buggies', so the 4 of us booked the Tomcar tour- and I'm really glad I was vetoed on the hiking. Phil, our tour guide, handled our shenanigans well- and took us on an amazing tour of the desert. I not only learned a TON about the terrain(who knew cacti were that old??) but I also had a fantastic time taking in the sites. Phil was awesome! The only thing that wasn't up to par was the person who helped book the tour. The actual office management needs a little work, as there was a screw-up in billing. I know mistakes happen, but it was the way it was handled that could use a bit of improvement. Otherwise? I wouldn't definitely go back the next time I find myself in AZ :) read more

Had such a blast during our Tom car rides in the desert. We met our guides and went over some quick safety tips and were on our way. One guide stays in the front and the other in the back. We had about 6 cars of people doing the adventure. The guides mentioned that we can only go as fast as the pack will allow as it is important to stay close to each other to prevent from getting lost or hit with too much dust. We got lucky with our group but we heard from other friends and colleagues who were in town for the conference and also did the excursion that they went pretty slow at times because of one particular car. Not cool for something that's supposed to be adventurous if you're going slow. It was great learning about the natural wildlife and we even saw wild horses. A very expensive disappointment. Let me start by saying our tour guides were very good - courteous, knowledgeable, committed and professional. It's not necessarily their fault that this tour fell short in a number of ways and was not worth the $800+tips for 5 people that we paid for it. First, the start time was delayed about 30 minutes while we waited for people who were significantly late to the tour. Not just a little late. This is so rude to the guests who actually planned well and arrived on time and it cut our tour time short. The boss-owner was the one who insisted we wait, I'm sure so he could collect the high fees at the expense of the rest of us. We rented 2 cars for 5 family members and one of ours broke down way out in the desert. Those family members had to ride with the guide...not happy at all about not having our own vehicle, which we had paid for. We were promised that we would get water at the start and end of our tour and at one of the mid-tour stops so we didn't bring any of our own from the hotel. We got no water - I even asked one of the guides about it and he laughed. It's a long tour and you get totally covered in desert sand - we really could've used that water. We didn't see any wildlife, no real scenic sights, just sand and cacti. The cars don't go very fast and you are expected to maintain a very close proximity to the car in front of you, which takes a lot of concentration and does not allow for much sight seeing for the driver. The final bad taste in our parched and sandy mouths was the much-hyped "Selfie" contest they run on Facebook each month. At frequent urging of our booking agent and guides, our kids eagerly entered the contest, following the rules as laid out. It took days after the end of the month to name a winner and, once named, the winner was someone who didn't follow the rules but still won. That kind of sums up the Green Zebra Adventure: not what was promised: no on-time start, no water, no operational Tomcat vehicle, no wildlife or scenic vistas, no fair-and-square selfie winner. read more

We were staying at the Boulders and really wanted to ride in an ATV! Unfortunately, we didn't have a rental car to get us to any of the ATV companies around. HOWEVER, Green Zebra saved the day! The offered complimentary hotel pick-up and drop-off from the Boulders Resort. It is about an hour drive to the actual reservation where we took our nearly 2 hour ride. It costs $129 per person for 2 folks in the vehicle. It is $59 for a child with a paying adult, and $179 if you want to be the only driver! It was worth the price, without a doubt! I stick get sick when flying and riding rollercoasters so this gave me a similar type thrill without the motion sickness! Don't get me wrong this isn't for the faint at heart, but definitely for the young at heart! There were small kids to "seasoned" citizens on the ride with us. We followed an energetic guide "Mark", thru the desert, up over the hills, twisting and turning, and going faster and faster! It was a great thrill! We had 3 stops where we could take pictures, and switch drivers. The course started off easy and progressed in difficulty throughout the ride. It was an awesome off-road adventures for 2 city girls who had never been on an ATV! I will definitely go again! They offer tours in several exotic locations, so if look them up if you have a chance! read more

This was a horrible waste of time and money. Several of the people in our group had their cars break down, we were stopping every few minutes to get them onto another vehicle. One ran out of gas, this should have been taken care of prior to us leaving. We went so slow during the whole ride which totally killed having any fun. The videos posted online for this tour are very far from what you get. We did NOTHING that was featured in the video. If you have never been off roading or a nervous to do anything extreme, this may be an acceptable tour. If you are looking to really off-road and go fast, this is not the adventure for you. read more

After terrifying our entire group with talks of rattlesnakes and scorpions we were sent on our way to fend for ourselves amongst the desert creatures with nothing but a bandana and a dune buggy to protect us... and it was a blast! Ok, that's not entirely true. We were briefed on the dangers of rattlesnakes and scorpions, as well as shown pictures of a giant one they had found a couple weeks back, but we were not sent out on our own... we had Tom as our guide. We took the dune buggy tour through the desert as the opening event to my bachelor party week-long extravaganza and had a pretty enjoyable time. All of the people we met at Fort McDowell Adventures were extremely knowledgeable and friendly and had everyones safety as their top priority. So while he did show us pictures of a rattlesnake, I don't think anyone was worried about getting bit. The dune buggies themselves are Tomcar Israeli combat vehicles, so they weren't quite what I was picturing in my head. These have windshields and are a little higher off the ground that what I was expecting. And I think we all had something a little different in mind than what the tour turned out to be. The tour itself lasted about 2.5 - 3 hours with a couple stops along the way to stretch our legs, switch drives, take pictures and listen to Tom talk history for a few minutes. He was very informative, but he could tell that we just wanted to drive... which is also why we got done with the tour a little early. And as far as rattlesnakes go, there was 1 just off the trail as we were driving by, but he just sat there and wagged his tongue at us as we drove by. We all had a good time, but I think we were expecting a little more, which was probably our fault. When I heard dune buggies in the desert I immediately thought of huge sand dunes that we'd just get to tear around in for a couple hours. Definitely not the fault of Fort McDowell Adventures at all, just my imagination getting the best of me. We still had a lot of fun and it was a cool experience. I am a little upset that we bypassed what appeared to be an incredible incline that we could have raced up, but other than that I was pleased with the experience. Here's a tip, if you want to take pictures, don't be afraid to bring your camera along. I left mine in the car as I wasn't sure how it would fare on the trail, but as long as you keep it in a front pocket I think you'll be ok...just don't blame me if you do lose it. read more

Green Zebra tours is amazing! Our guide (I believe his name was Mike??) was so incredibly knowledgeable and fun. With 5 teenagers in tow, it is hard to capture their attention but somehow Mike was able to do it! The ATVs were perfect as well! Not too fast, not too slow and they have vehicles that accommodate 2-4 persons. Green zebra has access to beautiful trails and Arizona landscapes. I highly recommend this company if you happen to be in Phoenix and are looking for a way to take in some beautiful Arizona desert landscapes, learn a little about the Arizona desert and have an awesome time!!! read more

This is an amazing tour! Worth every cent. My husband and I did the Tomcar desert tour and it was so much fun. You see a lot! Make sure to bring sunglasses and sunscreen. Our guides were Chris and John! They educated us on the history of the land and even cut open a cactus for us to eat. I highly recommend! read more

This adventure was just OK. The guides did a nice job of explaining the flora and fauna but it was expensive given the length of tour. We were told we would be out for 2 to 2-1/2 hours. By the time the guides went through the rules and regulations, we were moving by 9:20. We stopped twice to see the sights and were back at 10:55--so not even 2 hours. If you've never been on a ride like this or have small kids, probably a great experience. If you expect to be out really enjoying the sights, exploring a bit and getting your money's worth, I'd recommend a different company. read more

First off, it is pretty expensive, so you'd expect some adventure. I'd you plan on going fast and ripping these vehicles around, you'd best not waste your money. The tour is a slow paced follow the leader type of tour, so you don't have an opportunity to actually go over 15-20 mph. There is zero freestyle time, you never get to open these cool vehichles up. They say you're responsible for any damage to the car, but in reality the only damage you could possibly do to the cars is rear ending the car in front of you because you are going so slow. The guides were nice and we did learn some interesting facts about the area, but that's not what I paid the money for. So, overall disappointed and wouldn't recommend it. read more

We went on a 2 hour adventure last month with Green Zebra Adventures. We caught them on a quiet day and got a private tour with Cruise. It was great. Lots of fun and very dusty. Cruise was so knowledgeable and informative. We were lucky enough to be able to stop and talk with a wildlife researcher that was on the property camped out studying the eagles. It was a great trip. What a great adventure we had on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Green Zebra tour guide, Greg, did an excellent job of guiding us along the trails. He also had us stop along the way to give us a brief "lay of the land" and the history of the region. The Tom Car is an excellent vehicle for the rough terrain and was well maintained, with all the necessary safety equipment, except for a helmet which I for one was happy was not required. We were all delighted in this two hour adventure and will do it again in the future. read more

Nice scenery and guide - those are the pros. Now for the cons - way, way, way overpriced. Look to pay at least $180+ for what is basically a wagon train ride in the desert for a little over an hour. Oh, and don't forget the tip - they put up signs, so I assume they pay their guides next to nothing to give the tours. If you do make a reservation, make sure you get verification of what's going to happen - preferably in writing. The guy who answered our call was bizarre and seemed to be unable to put two thoughts together with much coherence. Maybe we caught him at a bad time of day?? Once you actually get there, keep in mind you will get dirty and you will not be able to control the speed of your tour. I thought this was supposed to be different because you get to drive your own vehicle, but nope. You are stuck in a line and you get 'time out' if you go above a snails pace. By the time this thing is done, you will be a lot poorer, but maybe a little more knowledgeable of the desert. I would say go find a cheaper tour, enjoy similar scenery, and then buy yourself a fabulous meal. You will get more out of it for less money. read more
