Green Yogi is a beautiful and accepting space for those looking to grow their practice! I love waking up with Maria Christina. She brings a wonderful and encouraging energy, and makes the effort to get to know us on a first name basis. The classes are restorative and the flows have the right amount of challenge and variation. The environment is clean and airy, and the front desk is always kind and welcoming. I've taken plenty of classes through Class Pass, and I see myself signing up for a long-term membership.

We Berkeley yogis are TRULY blessed. Just when you think there are enough amazing studios in our city, another one pops up! A friend I have practiced with emailed me a couple of days ago to let me know about this new studio in North Berkeley. A brilliant marketing ploy that Green Yogi has employed is to offer free yoga for their first two weeks in January. I'm a dedicated attendee at Groove Yoga but I'm always up for trying out new yoga studios - especially pro bono! I went on Day Four (yesterday) after their official opening on January 18, 2014. Christy Evans (formerly an instructor at the Green Yogi in Manhattan Beach) came from San Jose to teach. She was so warm and friendly and taught an intermediate flow class suited for all levels. I decided to go back the following day to take a class from the founder, Mary Strong. She's a former sportscaster and pro beach volleyball player (awesome!) - turned yogi - and I wanted to check out her teaching style. Boy was I impressed. Her Power Vinyasa class was challenging and left me dripping with sweat (and the room is not heated). Her instruction style is clear and smooth and she has a very soothing, calm voice. What blew my socks off (metaphorically speaking) was her candlelight yin yoga class, which I took directly after the Power Vinyasa class.. I've never taken a Yin Yoga class before. I learned that Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga. The poses are held longer to help restore and relax the body. Yin yoga is known to calm the nervous system and reduce cortisol levels, also known as stress hormones. I'd had a rough day and it was the best medicine I could have asked for. Ahhhh... or should I say "Ommmm" :) The studio is clean and tastefully decorated (Mary is heavily into eco-consciousness - Green Yogi only uses sustainable products and some of the frameworks are from reclaimed furnishings). There is water and ginger tea available but BYOT (Bring Your Own Towel). They have blocks and bolsters (long narrow cushions) available. LOVED the bolsters! The studio has a very calming environment and the music they used in their 75-minute classes was incredible. They have some products (yoga mats, t-shirts, towels, etc.) on sale - including some neat OM candles ($14) whose proceeds are donated to the numerous charities they support. Did I mention how COOL they are?? Nice website too. You really need to take advantage of this trial period! They are also giving a 10% discount off your first 5,10, or 20 class package. Their prices are comparable with other studios in the area. Parking has been easy on MLK Street. I give a warm welcome to Berkeley's newest yoga studio! Namaste :)

The staff is wonderful and friendly but what impresses me the most is Mary Strong, the proprietor.

What a trendy, twisted theme on heated yoga!…read more It's a stretch in this inferno, but your body and mind will thank you for it. Always. Feeling inhibited? Let the heat and constant movement of your body during the hot pilates, bikram or buti, lower your anxiety and release the fury here! I like the new take on disco colors inside with R rated music! It gets me to be how I want to be, let loose, and leave all the problems that goes on outside of my yoga mat! It's like I'll deal with it later, but first, yoga for my soul please! Hot, move, sweat and repeat! Listen to pump up music and get your workout going! Let's get it working! Yes! ...And instead of namaste, they end with thank you! Epiphany from Hella - If your mind keeps moving, treat your body just as well and let it keep pace to your mind. Balance is key. Thank you!

Located close to Bart, UC Berkeley, you can easily get here using public transportation. The instructors keep the class motivated while challenging us. I always leave feeling better than I showed up because I know I got a great workout. Today's class was 90's themed and they always have a bumpin' playlist. It was easy to squat and hit each rep with the beat. Make sure to show up 15 minutes early to check in, grab a cubby, set up your mat and towel, and grab the appropriate weights and bands. I bring a fitness mat, a hand towel, water, and a hot yoga/Pilates towel made of microfiber. It's perfect for the heated room because trust me you will SWEAT. They don't offer wipes to clean your mat after, only for their weights. I like the studio, lots of disco lights and music. They keep the studio dark, so I always feel comfortable, no one is looking at you. It's a judge free zone! I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a challenging

I attended Jessica's classes every Sunday for over 2 years (I waited over 6 months to obtain a coveted Sunday spot). I've been a nurse for over 30 years and suffered from chronic neck, shoulder and mid back pain. Jessica helped me to keep my mid spine open using the ROPES and my chronic pain is much less intense. ANA TOOK OVER IN JULY 2019. She studied under Jessica for 9 years and completed many IYENGAR yoga workshops! Ana adds more standing poses to open the spine along with restorative yoga. ANA'S SIDE OPENINGS HAVE BEEN THE MOST HELPFUL TO ME SINCE JULY 2019. Also, the flow from pose to pose of Ana's class is very relaxing. I highly recommend ANA FRENES AT THE TREE OF LIFE YOGA STUDIO!!!

I absolutely adore this place. Nice, clean space with great natural lighting. All the necessary…read moreequipment is already there (no need to bring your own mat). Jess is a wonderful teacher and she really takes time to know her students/clients. She also goes around the room and modifies poses depending on how advanced of a student you are. I started off with the Beginner Series, which was a great intro to yoga. I've tried all the scheduled classes and my favorites are the rope, Iyengar and vinyasa. TIPS - parking across the street in a lot (look for the yellow Tree of Life Yoga Clients signs) - buzz to be let into the building; studio is all the way to the back and up the gray wooden stairs - get the 10 class pass for $140...worth it! Each class is 1.5 hours and there's usually no more than 8-10 per class. I've been in some classes where there were under 5 people - if you want to get in a rope class, reserve a month in advance (seriously) If you're even thinking about trying this place, DO IT. I promise you won't regret it!
