First my own review. Green Thumb Growing Grounds ( GTGG ) is a WHOLESALE nursery, so I am not really sure they even belong on Yelp.
GTGG grows about 25% of the plants on the property themselves. Due to fact the GTGG serves the landscape professional community for the San Fernando Valley, Brent Wood, Bell Air, Beverly Hills and so on, they buy in a lot of premium plant material from all over California and Oregon.... I also sold my avocado trees wholesale to them in the past.... GTGG staff are very courteous, most know where the plants are and do ALL of the labor of picking, moving and loading of the plants.
The plants range from landscape grade to premium quality specimen plants.
There are only two things wrong with GTGG;
1. Most of the time there are not enough staff with transport "trucks" to take the customer to choose and bring back the plants fast enough so maddening delays develop there for 30 minutes or more. This leads to a lot of frustration and some "truck" jacking by customers........not that I would ever do anything such thing myself :).
2. Getting an order written up and paid for is almost back at Green Acres level. The owner, a very smart and nursery industry dedicated lady, made a big improvement on the problem this last spring by having computers installed in the sales office. I suppose sooner or later one has to get used to the idea of having those darn machines around anyway.
There is no disputing if need premium plant material and have a TALENTED professional who can properly plant and maintain the planting GTGG is the place to go in the in great Los Angeles area. But time can be a real nightmare on most days.
South LA County and Orange County there are many different options, try Village Nurseries Landscape Centers.
now for the loser who wrote the first review,
I wrote this to Yelp. You are a moron...
Green thumb Growing Grounds is wholesale nursery business that sells plants the gardener or landscape contractor. This person may have written the check but the requirement is that the customer be with a "landscape professional" when choosing their plants. The person making the review states clearly that he has a "professional" do the installation work.
Sometimes persistent buyers slip through the process and buy the plants directly from GTGG, but the polices are posted on the wall and again it is a wholesale nursery. If you want a 1 year plant warranty then gardener buyer would go to Lowe's or Home Depot, and pay the proper prices for amateur planting problems.
The reviewer's problem is with the lack of professional work done and the lack of follow up to the job....The reviewer is defaming Green Thumb Nursery Growing Ground.....And heck I don't even work there. I am just a frequent buyer of plants from GTGG Topanga when I am in a bind for plants in the San Fernando Valley....I just happen to see people walk in there every day expecting "retail help" when at the entrance the sign states "Wholesale Only."
In wholesale nurseries you usually go not get to return the plants because you are leaving with the plants you chose, the plants are excellent condition and the price is discounted. The prices are discounted down because the expectation is the person planting them and CARING FOR THE PLANTS has the knowledge to do. In the case of this job they did not....Yelp should remove this post since the complaint does not target the correct entity...
