Before moving to Lunenburg we lived in Groton where we had an excellent Chinese restaurant 2 towns over. so when we moved here we tried basically every Chinese place in Fitchburg, Leominster, and Lunenburg looking for something comparable. Out of all of them, Asian Imperial is the best option locally, but it's definitely not the best Chinese food overall. The place has two sides to it: the bar and the restaurant. The bar is excellent. Large U-shaped granite bar, good high-top seating, friendly bartenders, and strong drinks. Honestly 9 out of 10 times we come here it's for the bar, not a full dinner. Crab rangoons and lighter bar food are solid. The bar experience is easily 10/10. The main food menu is more average. It's definitely better than the typical shopping-plaza Chinese takeout nearby (over-fried chicken, dark greasy fried rice, etc.), but the food itself is generally pretty bland and not very memorable. It's decent, sometimes good, sometimes just okay. For context, my family eats Chinese food almost every weekend and we've tried a huge number of places across Eastern MA and Southern NH. I also try to judge restaurants by the whole experience (atmosphere, staff, drinks, cleanliness) not just one dish. First, you need to look for the place, as it's in a small business block with a slight setback, so it is real easy to miss the sign on the building. Plenty of parking, but you may need to park 50 or so feet towards the main strip building lot, as there is limited angle spots in front of the restaurant (as they share the lot with other businesses). The place is divided into 2 rooms. The main room has the bar, grill seating section, and tables. The other is added dining for groups, or more regular table seating. Ordered from the bar while awaiting the group: pricing OK, and the drink was OK, but I thought could have been a bit better. I am not sure if the bartender (one of the owners) is very experienced, but it is what it is. We had a new server, one of the local high school girls, and I know what it is like to be new. But, she did a good job, keep the tabs correct, and I hope she stays. Menu: the place is a combination of three fares - Japanese, Chinese, and the hibachi menu. The menu is extensive, so checking the menu online before you go may be helpful. I can not speak for the hibachi menu as we ordered off the Japanese and Chinese offerings. Won Ton soup is very good, and flavored very differently than I am used to. I really liked the pork dumplings, and there were 6 of them. I ordered Beef Chow Fun, and I found it more "saucier" than other places, but I liked it, and had a bit to take home. My wife ordered a Tuna and Salmon poke bowl and it was a good size, too. Fresh fish chunks, and she was very very happy with it. Others had various sushi's, and they were good sized, and those that order it like their selections. One fellow ordered just a whole large plate of Chinese spare ribs; to each their own! They didn't take a request to "substitute" items in some selections, as they said, they cook it according to what that offering is supposed to be. The standard Chinese meals were plenty, and no one had any complaints (except the one fellow wanting "this" instead of "that") Price: hey, its 2026, so it's fair pricing, in my opinion. There are at least 3 "gourmet sushi" specialty places in the general area, and they are easily 30-60% more expensive. For us, being about 15 minutes away, Other notes: the restrooms are a bit of a hike. You go out the back door which opens to the back hallway of the strip mall. Walk about 40 feet, turn and go through the glass doors that separate the older building from the new one: the facilities are right on the right side. That was worth a fun discussion at the table. I see some reviews are all over the ratings, and I can't speak for staffing beyond the time we were there, but we all know that is a problematic area that can sometimes affect the experience. Your milage may vary. I'd put this place on my return list.
