    We are new to this area and we drive older vehicles as a necessity. So we need a really reliable…read moremechanic. I am a little bit of a gear-head, having taken apart antique tractors and done repairs on an old flathead V-8 Ford sedan, for instance, and I also happen to be a women in my 60s. That means I expect a mechanic to talk to me, not at me, and to make sense. I know I don't understand that much about modern engines, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid. So I expect quite a bit from a mechanic: competence, respect, and real engagement. What I did, to find a mechanic, was go to the gear-head discussion boards where guys who work on their own cars and trucks advise one another about where to go in the event of a problem that's too big or too baffling for a backyard effort. Very quickly I learned that the mechanic with the best reputation in this entire part of New England (northern western Massachusetts and southern Vermont) is a guy in Guilford, VT. -- *and* that one of his chief mechanics, Rich, had recently set up his own shop in Shelburne, MA near the city of Greenfield. Several guys had already been there for work and sang the shop's praises, saying they'd had Rich work on their cars when he was still in Guilford and that he'd brought the same skills and value system to MA when he opened his own shop there. So of course that's where we went. It's literally right down the road, but I would honestly keep going there even if it was several hours away. At one point, we visited the shop and I saw what was going on: it was really actually beautiful, the way they were doing stuff. You know when you see a clean shop where parts and tools are organized that it reflects the underlying attention to care and detail a shop really needs -- especially in this day and age when so much of what they deal with is electronic. Those sensors and chips require care in handling that stuck bolts and nuts don't. These guys were doing it right! As it happens, one of their mechanics is also a used-car buyer for customers, so we even had this fellow, Doug, see if he could find the used car I'd been searching for ineffectively for weeks. Man, did he ever come through for us! This shop is a class act all the way, and every mechanic we met there was first-rate. I've lived all over the country, 8 states from Texas to California and back in the last 30 years (I'm 64), and this is hands-down THE best shop I've found. And believe me, I work hard to find the best mechanic in every place I live. There have been a lot of good ones, too. But Green River Auto and Rich and Doug are the best. You cannot go wrong with them.

When I had my Lexus, I had a gentlemen assigned to me, Chris, who I could easily connect with when I called. I really miss that level of service. They also washed and vacuumed my car every time, Also, my Audi locked me out the other day. I threw my purse in the car with my phone and my key, chatted with a friend for a few minutes, then closed the passenger side door to walk around to the driver side and my car locked me out. My Lexus never locked me out in seven years. I called Audi West Springfield, was not connected directly to the Audi department the friendly person in service who also cannot always reach the Audi service people, said yes that can happen. You can indeed lock your car while the key is inside. I went ahead and tried as a test to put my key in the car and then lock my car with the app and you can indeed lock your key in the car. Most cars you cannot lock your car when the key is in there. Still cannot understand how the app locked my car when it requires face recognition and was in my purse. But it did indeed locked me out. My suggestion to fathers and sons in West Springfield is that when you call the Audi service department they have an Audi person answer the phone. It's frustrating to talk to someone who also cannot get through to the Audi service department and they work for Audi! I honestly thought having a higher end car like this would get me higher level service, but I have not found that. I miss the personal service that Lexus in West Springfield provided.

    After months of emailing five different dealerships about my desire to buy a new 2025 Audi A5, I…read morereceived a very good offer from the sales manager at West Springfield Audi (aka Fathers & Sons). The car would have to be ordered because I wanted a specific color and options, and the all new A5 was slowly showing up at dealerships. I printed out the offer I was sent and went to the dealership the next day to fill out the paperwork. When the sales manager came up to me, I pointed out that I had a car to trade in (I wanted to keep the two transactions separate to prevent shady tactics from being used). Several online sites, including KBB and Edmunds, said the trade-in value of my 2017 Audi A4 was $17,000. I would like to point out that my car was what they call a "cream puff" -- low mileage, meticulously maintained and cosmetically flawless. So the sales manager went outside to inspect my car, then came back in and went to his office. He reappeared several minutes later and presented me with a new offer, which included my trade-in value. I noticed that the asking price for the new A5 was now higher. So, I pulled out the offer he had emailed me and asked, "What about this?" He looked at the printout and smugly responded, "Oh, that's just a worksheet." A "worksheet?" No, it's what's known in the business as a "Bait & switch." To make matters worse, he was offering me $13,000 for my trade-in ... $4,000 less than it was actually worth. Upon reading the new offer, I noticed that it was missing several options, including Audi Care, etc., that were listed on the original offer. When I questioned the sales manager about the omissions, he replied, "Oh, we can add those if you want!" Sure you can. And that will raise the price of the offer, won't it? Feeling disgusted, I said to the sales manager, "I won't take a penny less than $16,000 for my car." At which point he closed his books and said, "Well, I guess we don't have a deal then," and stormed away. I was in a state of shock because I really wanted to purchase a new car before Trump's tariffs kicked in, which they were scheduled to do about two weeks. I hopped in my car and drove home. About 15 minutes after I walked in the door, I received a text from the sales manager at Hoffman Audi in East Hartford, CT. He said, "I have good news for you! We found the exact car that you want, and can have it for you in a week!" He said he would honor the best offer I originally had received from West Springfield Audi. This was on a Friday. I told him I would be there on Monday to fill out the paperwork. On Saturday, I received a text from somebody at West Springfield Audi, asking, "Hey, would you like to come back and discuss your trade-in?" I chuckled to myself and didn't respond. I went to Hoffman's and they confirmed the offer they had made me. I then told them I'd like to trade in my old car. The sales manager went outside, inspected the car, and came back and said, "We'll give you $16,000 for your car." I could have quibbled a little, but I recognize that the dealership has to make a profit. A week later, I picked up my car and have been very happy driving it. The sales manager at West Springfield Audi really dropped the ball on this one.
