I went here because I knew they had a few Greek grocery products I needed to make a salad (honey for one) and decided to take a seat and enjoy a little alone time alfresco lunch. Sat on the porch in a shady seat and ordered one of my favorite soups Avgolomeno and a falafel appetizer. My sister took me here. She had an unpleasant experience the first visit she encountered the chef was yelling to the employee that works as a hostess and a server. Not sure who owns the place but definitely needs to control the chef. I believe potential customers wanted to eat here and my sister and potential customers overhead the chef screaming to tell the newly seated customer to leave because he doesnt want to cook. Had a wonderful dinner with family on a recent Friday evening. Our appetizers of Tyropitakia and Zucchini Croquettes which were delicious & a wonderful start to the meal. All of us loved our entrees of Moussaka, Pastitsio and Oven Roasted Lemon Chicken. The only down note was the lemon potatoes that accompanied all the entrees which were so undercooked that we couldn't eat them. The wait staff was very good about allowing us to enjoy our meal and not make us feel rushed but there were a few times that they could have been a little more attentive. They brought us the dessert menus but 15 minutes later had never come back to see if we wanted anything. When we finally got someone's attention, we asked for the check instead of ordering dessert. I've yet to make it to Greece, but the Market on Main delivers a Taste of Greece right in downtown Cranbury. The little eatery has outdoor as well as indoor seating. The outside front porch on Main Street is so quaint and reminds me off another time. The first floor and upstairs dining area are both very open and roomy. Everything from the Veggie Reggie, Greek Sammy, to the Gyros, to the Waffles have been simply wonderful. They also have various Greek sweets, some of which are imported from Greece. There is also cheese available by the pound. I've been here several times for breakfast, lunch and coffee. In addition to the wonderful food, the owner Penny and Manager, Irene, are both so lovely and friendly. Irene has been very accommodating upon every visit. It's wonderful to see a small family run business in the heart of Cranbury. read more

We were in the area looking for a place to eat. With a high rating and Greek food offering we decided on The Market on Main and boy were we glad we did. It was between lunch and dinner and we were hungry. We ordered the spinach triangles and grape leaves, 2 of our favorites. For our main course we ordered the classic gyro and a full Greek salad. The spinach triangles were AMAZING both crunchy and so so very flaky!!! Yummmm! Served with a homemade tsatziki sauce (couldn't get enough). Best ever! Stuffed Grape leaves were delish and were abundant. The Greek salad was huge and fresh with a mild lemon dressing. So good. Then for the classic gyro. Filled with that delicious gyro meat and of course, the amazing tsatziki sauce. And, yes, there's more, the Greek fries. Somewhat seasoned with a bit of feta. So very good!! Needless to say, we enjoyed our meal. The servers were so very polite. While we were talking with the crew out came Sakina, the baker, with a beautiful cake (see the photo) that was being sent to a birthday party elsewhere. Do call her for a unique birthday cake. I'm a frequent customer and I always loved their food, but lately when I ordered a crispy pitas the hummus instead on being on a container is being slopped into the foil takeout container. That shouldn't be. Presentation counts and this one looks like crap. It's really outputting. I don't understand how you could serve five pieces of crispy pitas and asked $9 dollars for it. We had takeout - a couple of Gyro's and the Cubano. At first, I thought it was a little pricy but it actually comes with fries or a salad which makes it totally make sense and reasonable. Had one of the Gyro's in the car and it was VERY fresh and tasty. Tazziki sauce was light but well seasoned. The fries come with optional feta cheese on them - definitely get it. I will say that by doing take out, the fries and cubano get a little soggy from the steam but still very good and easily fixed. Comparison - Simple Greek in princeton, Hoagie Haven (Greek owners), that place in Hamilton, and a few others... I find this extremely fresh ingredients and up there with the best. Very authentic. Thank you yelpers for recommending this place! We ordered dine in as a small group for a Saturday lunch and it was so hard to decide what on the menu to try. We had the cheese triangles for appetizer, the ooze of the filling was so luxurious. I ordered the pastitsio which was rich and flavorful. Our group also ordered the spanakopita and a gyro, loved both of those as well. The portions are huge for the price! We also got desserts to go and they were all fun in texture and not too sweet. My favorite was the orange cake soaked in syrup. The orange flavor is so intense and lovely. The service was attentive and considerate. There are a few tables inside and more outside and upstairs for dine in. I enjoyed browsing the different items on their market shelves as well. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu! The Market on Main is a Greek shop & eat, beautifully retrofitted into a colonial era home in the heart of Cranbury, NJ. After visiting friends nearby, I decided to visit and satisfy my occasional lust for Greek cuisine. I was greeted on entry by Irene, lovely proprietress, who invited me to sit anywhere while she explained the menus were on the walls, including an all day breakfast list. I explored and decided what to eat - Mousaka and Avgolemono Soup. Irene explained that the Mousaka required 25 minute prep time, and asked if I had the time? I did. Happy to wait at a small table in the rear dining room. The soup arrived first in a medium ceramic bowl. It was made from chicken consume, shredded chicken, orzo and wonderful lemon flavor. I expected a cream base, but was pleasantly surprised that it was really just excellent chicken soup without the extra calories. The photo shows how loaded with white meat chicken and orzo it was. Loved it! The Mousaka came as an individual portion in a personal size oven ready dish. The mix of ground beef, onion, zucchini, eggplant and top-hat layer of béchamel sauce reached the table too hot to touch right from the oven. It was still bubbling, so I waited a few minutes for it not to burn my lips. It, too, was delicious; full of flavor, texture and aroma. Define, best of breed. The market piece is primarily a bakery of traditional Greek pastries, with a tip of the hat to sundries like olive oil, pasta, cheese and a few kitchen tools and implements. Everything starts with white walls to remind of Aegean influences. It is repurposed rustic with very comfortable atmosphere. The front porch tables offer a great view of Cranbury's Main Street. We had dinner at the Market on Main and really enjoyed our food. We hadn't been in Cranbury in many months and decided to meet our nephew there. We weren't aware that the restaurant had new owners, but the food was just as good. I had the spanakopita, listed on the menu as the " best." After finishing it, I agree. The spinach and feta cheese mixture in a phyllo dough was incredible. My wife had the Greco Avocado toast with scrambled eggs, and it came with cheese fries. The fries were delicious. My nephew had a gyro with chicken. He enjoyed it very much. We spoke with the new owners and met the chef who stayed when the business was purchased. We are definitely returning soon. This restaurant has a beautiful layout and is in a great location. It used to carry evil eye jewelry, artisan soap and prepared foods. With the new owner change, the place has lost its charm. The prepared food looks and tastes like it is from a can. The new owner is nice! but they need to lean into what they are selling- Greek cuisine! Update the decor, make it cozy, add some music, bring a knowledgeable chef and barista in! It's barren, has uncomfortable seating, is understocked and understaffed. The staff is not knowledgeable about the products and have no warmness or customer service - it would be a shame to see another business at this location fail! read more

My favorite place to get coffee/breakfast so far that I have found since moving to Somerset country NJ. So hard to find good Greek coffee which I was used to coming from Astoria queens and this place has it!! Great freddo cappuccinos and delicious food. Such a lovely place... the space, the food, the owner! Cranbury has just a handful of places to eat, and this is a great addition. The Greek aesthetic of white and blue goes so well with the historic building. On the first floor there is a tidy market that is both grocery and gift shop, with a section of rich baked goods and a section for cheese and olives. I didn't go upstairs but there's seating for indoor dining. Outdoor on the porch is also nice in the shade. The food is made with love, and you can see and taste it. I had a sampler of sweet and savory, and also picked up some goodies for home. I really enjoyed my first visit and look forward to more! read more

Ordered two gyros (which I butchered the pronunciation of) to pick up and they were ready on time. They also have Balthazar bread, which I got a loaf of. The chicken gyros hit the spot, and came with a side of fries, which would probably have tasted better if we had them right away. They also had a bit of feta cheese and seasoning on them.
