What happened? Permanently closed? The place was amazing! Best Pho in the city. The great people there will be missed.

The Green Mango fed the best years of my youth back in the 80s. Sadly, both their Yonge St. locations closed a long time ago due to tripling rent increases (this is straight from the owner). I had forgotten about this gem until I had a bout of nostiagia for all my 80s food... Lick's, Lime Ricky's, Green Jeans, J.J. Muggs, Toby's, to name a few. Unfortunately, all these spots are gone like my thick flowing hair I once had. BUT! All was not lost! A Google search lead me back to a cherished piece of my youth that is the "Green Mango"! Would it be worth the 30 min drive from the east end of the city to Etobicoke to taste my youth? The simple answer is YES!! So, I'm standing in this tiny upgraded takeout version of the Mango. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai. I crossed my fingers and hope it was the same as I remembered. The food is ready in about 10 mins. The Pad Thai smells immediately brings me back to my happy days. The portions are good, but I could have eaten 3 more orders. This is not your fancy pants trendy hipster Pad Thai... this SIMPLE delicious, it won't break the bank, Pad Thai! The Green Mango has lost its original caffiteria style charm in exchange for modern decor, but the food still hits the same after all these years! I would recommend to all who too try. Now that I'm living in Etobicoke, it's been kind of my mission to try all the Asian-themed eateries in the area. And because I go to the Queensway Cineplex on a regular basis, I've been driving by Green Mango Express several times a week. So when the opportunity arose to pick up some takeout, I immediately thought of Green Mango Express. I can't resist anything that claims to bring the heat, so I decided to go with the Spicy Beef (despite the fact that the website and the food-delivery app offer no clues as to what it contains). It's a decent dish. The ingredients work well together, and the copious pieces of beef are nice and tender. My issue is, however, that it doesn't offer much in terms of flavor or spice. I'd classify this as mild more than anything else, and in terms of taste, I wasn't really getting much of anything aside from basil. As a result, I got a little tired of eating it about halfway through. (And as an aside, the website and the food-delivery app also don't mention if the dish comes with rice, which it does. Is it really so difficult to add a little note that says which dishes come with a side order of rice?) We also got the Vegetable Spring Rolls and they were quite unimpressive. The filling was overshadowed by the massive pastry shell, so that it felt like you were basically just eating deep-fried pastry. I didn't actively hate my meal from Green Mango Express, but it just felt so uninspired and lazy that I can't see myself ever ordering from this joint again - particularly when there are so many other, better choices in the area. read more

I had a late lunch today at Green Mango Express. In the early 2000s, I worked downtown in one of the office towers in the Eaton Centre and ate at the Green Mango at Yonge/Shuter A LOT (it's long gone). I conducted an enrolment seminar in Etobicoke today and was happy to come across Green Mango Express on my way home. I checked and it's part of my old Green Mango's chain. Apparently it's been there for about three years and I've never noticed. They recently got a new sign so the old sign obviously didn't jump out at me. I ordered the Chicken Curry with Jasmine Rice luncheon special ... it was a lot of food for $10 so a great deal! I'm not a big fan of veggies so focused on the chicken and carrots. The sauce was sweet and surprisingly spicy ... I liked it. I'll be back! The guy at the counter was friendly. He cooked it up fresh for me so next time I'd ask for just chicken and carrots in the sauce. read more

Went there today for the first time wanting to get a meal with veggies, chicken and rice and they suggested I try their yellow curry meal and so I did. I have had curry before at other restaurants and usually it has coconut mixed too but this one I was in shock with when I got home... it was oil based which I have never seen. The whole bowl was mainly swimming oil.. it was superrr greasy.. I couldn't even eat it. I was so sad I had to throw it out but who can eat a bowl of oil & coloring with veggies. The yellow oil stains so easily and drips down quickly bc it's so oily/runny. It tasted awful... I regret getting this curry meal. When you've a craving for quick Thai food this place is amazing. Chicken spring rolls - crispy goodness! Won ton soup is a meal in itself! Do not think it's simply some wontons in broth...this comes with noodles, bokchoy sprouts and other yummy stuff on the side for you to add. Curries and pineapple rice also tasty. Plus is these folks are really nice and super fast! read more

Have rated 2 out of 5...we found the food really greasy (more than usual Thai) and the chicken in the Pad Thai had a layer of fat on it. Never had that before with Thai food. My husband wanted to just throw it all out. I was also annoyed that when I ordered, I asked for Ginger Chicken with no mushroom, to which they replied there are no mushrooms in ginger chicken. But upon arrival, it was full of mushrooms - see photo. My final complaint is the customer service: both on phone when placing the order and in person when picking up, they were very curt and no friendliness whatsoever. Was very disappointed in the whole experience given others had rated this place well (avg rating was over 4/5 stars). We will not be back. There are better Thai places around that will provide better food and customer service. read more

Green Mango used to be located just south of Yonge and Bloor many many years ago. Back in those days, this place was truly one of my top picks for quick, inexpensive, and AMAZING food! When they closed, I cried inside. Funnily enough, their old location found itself referenced in two of my recent reviews of other places that are in the same area today. In both cases, I was criticizing those two other restaurants and lamenting that Green Mango wasn't around anymore. Then I thought to myself; Is there any chance that Green Mango just moved somewhere out of my usual areas? A quick google search found that there were still a few different Restaurants owned by Green Mango and that their owner sticks to working in the Green Mango Express out west. I was overjoyed and convinced my wife to make a pilgrimage after work to try this place out! I was pleased to find the owner working right up front and more than happy to reminisce about the old days. I was a tad disappointed that I wasn't able to find my old favorite food choices as they have been updated since. That being said, the food is still really great, the servings are generous and the prices are right! Even though this place is about a 20 minute highway drive away from where we live, my wife still wants to come out again soon. :) So you might ask why I'm giving this place 4 stars if the food isn't quite as good as it used to be. Well, that's because it would have gotten a 5 if it was! 4 is still bloody good and this place deserves it! read more

We were celebrating one of my colleague's birthdays so we decided, since we all love Green Mango Boys (at Cloverdale), we would try the newly opened Green Mango Express. While I can't speak for everyone, two of us ordered Curry Pad Thai and we both found it to be very dry and the rice noodles were overcooked. It was unfortunate because Asian food is all about texture and this was borderline mushy. One colleague ordered the Lemongrass Chicken; she said it was good but kind of watery. The ones that had Mango Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Pho (with beef) and Banh Mi (with beef short rib) all loved their dishes. The Banh Mi was loaded with meat and looked really good; I'll definitely order that next time. Service was super friendly and they even gave us two bags of shrimp chips on the house; however, I have to deduct a star for the overcooked Pad Thai. Also, you may want to note that, although they do deliver, it's only after 5:00 p.m. I think 3.5 stars is fair rating for now. read more

Was not amused to be the only one standing in line waiting for 2 mins for the owner to finish his video on his cell phone. We ordered two pad thai's of which there was enough chicken for only one! (Please see photo) most of the chicken that was there was really fat and inedible. We had been there awhile back and to our surprise things have changed. I come here regularly for the lemongrass soup (chicken or vegetable). The soup is amazing! Very tasty, healthy and is a little spicy. This is my "go to" place (for the soup) when I have a cold or am stuffy. The lemongrass soup instantly clears it up ... every time. read more
