I was in the area and wanted lunch. "Green Leaf" was recommended to me, by a colleague. I figured, can't go wrong with a recommendation. That statement would haunt me the rest of the day. There is a tiny parking lot, so your best best is street parking. This restaurant is small and off to the side. It's almost invisible. But at a send glance, I found it. Inside is dated. There is nothing modern. You head over to the counter and place your order. My food came out pretty quickly and that was perfect because I was starving. I started with the crab ragoons. They were okay. They lacked filling, but tasted good. The sauce you dip them in was watered down, so I avoided it, after I made my way to my chicken. Sorry to report, it wasn't good. The chicken was chewy and lacked sauce. The rice was dry and the pork in it was chewy. I got half way through before being unable to finish. I probably won't go back. Great spot for Chinese take out in middle village. The staff is friendly and the food comes out very fast. My chicken and broccoli was just as salty as I wanted it to be and the wonton soup was just as I expected. The fried pork dumplings are a stand out- certainly some of the best I've had from a standard Chinese-American take out place. I've just recently moved to the neighborhood and it is a relief to have this place so close. I look forward to becoming a regular. read more

I was in the area and looking for Chinese food and decided to try this place. The menu is typical of any Chinese takeout place, lots of choices and standard American Chinese food. They have a lunch and dinner special which is awesome. I had the general tso's chicken dinner special which came out to $13 with choice of egg roll or soda. Portions were sufficient. The best thing about this place is there is a mini parking lot and those familiar with this area know it's challenging to find a spot on the street. This has always been my go-to place for Asian food because when it arrives it feels like it was cooked fresh just for us. Unfortunately, I came back from Florida and ordered and everything was overcooked, the sesame shrimp was hard and dry, the pork fried rice was also dried and overcooked and the dumplings had more dough than filling. The sauce for the dumplings was no longer sweet and thick but simply salty soy sauce. I am so disappointed because I've ordered from them for many years and was never disappointed in the food. This is known as a Chinese / Thai takeout place. Anytime you see where places offer two different ethnicities, you tend to get iffy as you want a place to get something right. I have to admit I quite enjoyed my takeout. I had the lunch special pad Thai which came with a couple of large shrimps. The texture and heat on the dish is smack good. I got it to go and it wasn't lumpy at all once I ate it home 10 mins in. It came with a choice of spring roll or 3 different type of Thai soups. That was a nice touch. My wife had the pineapple shrimp curry lunch special which she wasn't a fan off. She felt they used too much msg and salt. All in all, I will keep this at a moderate 3 stars but I personally will go back for sure as for Thai takeout, it is decent and price of around $8 for each is acceptable. read more

I found a Green Leaf menu in my mail box. I took a good look at it, and then went to Yelp. Green Leaf had less than five reviews, and one out of the five was not a review on their Thai food. In any event, even though I am skeptical of Thai food in Middle Village, I wanted to try it. I figured, if I really enjoy it, it would be nice to have a Thai place in this area. It's UN precedent. For my first order, I got a delivery of Thai Tea, Tofu Pineapple/Coconut rice, and good ol' friend banana's. I've never had a bad Thai Tea. They offered a generous portion of rice. Their pineapple rice was good. It wasn't amazing, but it was good. In fact everything was good. I will always like fried banana's. I know it's very common, but I like it. I especially like friend banana's, when it's like a fried spring roll banana. Green Leaf, just fried the banana, but it was still good. Everything was neatly packaged. About a week after my first order, I had my grandmother visit with me. I made another order for Green Leaf. This time, I picked up the food in person. I wanted to check out the place. It's on the south side of Metro. The place looked brand new and really clean. I can't say if there was another business in place before Green Leaf opened. Anyway, I order Pad See Ew with Tofu. I was really disappointed with it. I didn't finish it, mainly because I did not like it. There was a few chunks of fried tofu, and that was tasty. I was disappointed with the noodles in the dish. I know the dish calls for thick flat noodles, and I've always liked the dish. But, at Green Leaf it tasted like Chinese Chow Fun. It did not remind me of Pad See Ew. So, I've had two meals. One I enjoyed, one I disliked. That's breaks even, right? But, I also liked their tea and dessert., so we are at 3 stars. I am not going to rush back here. This is one of my neighborhood Chinese takeout places. They have several tables that can seat maybe 20 people; which is big compare to most "takeout/eat in" place. Their lunch specials (45 items) is a good bargain and is served seven days a week; not like some place which only have lunch specials 5 days a week. I finally found a good Thai place close to where I live! Delivery was super fast. Maybe 10min. Green Thai curry is really good. They put green and red peppers in it and it's sliced thin. They put eggplant in it as well as fresh chicken. I really like how they make the eggplant. The coconut soup from the lunch menu is really good too. Exactly what I wanted. Green Leaf is pretty much the only good Chinese-American food option in all of Middle Village. It's also the only Thai option in the area. That's a big bonus for me. I come here quite often for take-out. The place is clean, the service is friendly and the food is very tasty. The Pad Nor Mai Asparagus (asparagus with shiitake mushroom in oyster sauce) is my favorite from the Thai side. The Thai options are a tad bit pricey, but it's worth it. The above came in a huge portion with lots of bright green, tender asparagus and a delicious sauce. The only let down is the coconut rice. It's not authentic at all! Just some regular fluffy white rice with coconut flavoring. Where's the hunk of sticky, sweet coconut joy that I get elsewhere???! Their Chinese side is reasonably priced, non-greasy and yum. The Vegetable Lo Mein came with a variety of vegetables which included fresh mushrooms. A plus in my book. Crisp and light spring rolls. Overall, a great menu. The old owners of New China two blocks down have ventured out to open a new take out. Oddly named Green Leaf, the take out serves both Thai and Chinese dishes. The Chinese food is very good. Not at all greasy, and the fried dishes don't taste heavy and bland. Ingredients seemed fresh and the quality of beef and chicken was good. The Szechuan Wontons were steamed to perfection in a nice spicy brown sauce and the General Tso's Chicken was more chicken than breading. Have not tried the Thai yet, but it certainly looked appetizing, and as Veronica R. pointed out, it's the only Thai place this side of Middle Village. All lunch specials are only $4.50 which is pretty good and the rest of the prices are competitive with other take outs in the area. 4 parking spaces in front that are usually not taken. read more

One of my local Chinese places. I never have tried the Thai half of the restaurant so this will only be about the Chinese food. This is your usual place. I come here a couple of times a week for their lunch specials. Usual food but some things that stick out are: General Tsao's chicken Chicken/Shrimp lo mein Chicken/Shrimp with garlic sauce Steamed dumplings (any variety) Nice staff and quickly cooked. My husband had the Chinese food here and I ate the Thai food. The Chinese food was pretty decent and basic. Being Chinese, I was actually more interested in the food that the owner's kids were eating next to me. It seemed more authentic LOL. My husband was satisfied with chicken and broccoli and also ordered some extra food for lunch the next day. I really really wanted something lighter so I ordered the seafood papaya salad and ordered side of rice to make it more filling. This place has some good items, but I'd stick to mainly ordering the popular items like dinner specials, Thai noodles, appetizers, etc. Their pad Thai has gotten a lot better and is very good at a large portion and so are their other Thai noodle dishes. Their Dragon and Phoenix plate is seriously addictive. The dinner specials, boneless spare ribs, & pork fried rice are pretty good. They also give you a little complimentary cup of tasty chili sauce with some orders. Steak on stick is also delish. My only issues with this place - no noodles in the chow mein, it's just crunchy vegetables. I thought chow mein was made with crispy noodles, not just vegetables. My go-to Chinese food spot for quite some time. Just like pizza, any true New Yorker knows there can be some serious levels to Chinese food, from great to downright awful. While the Chinese food place that previously occupied this space (Kowloon Kitchen) way back when was the most downright horrid thing I ever tasted Green Leaf really hits that delicate balance between bland and a greasy sodium bomb that encompasses some bomb ass Chinese food. The Thai is pricey but perfectly fine if your really craving it that much and are too lazy to drive over to Elmhurst. Love their spring rolls too. read more

Ordered from them 3 times and found they are not consistent on the quality, taste and value for what you are paying for. We ordered during the week and the food was great but when we ordered on a Saturday they appear to have a different chef cooking the food and it shoes. Satay was overcooked, peanut sauce was almost without taste and watery. The T41 Gai Pad Bai Ga-Pow which was chicken and vegetables had at best a few small slivers of Chickem and had no Spice to it at all. Not worth the 11.95 they charged by a long shot. My recommendation would be order from Nor Thai on woodhaven blvd in Middle Village (a little pricier but the food is absolutely worth it) or if you can go out to eat Sri Pai Thai in woodside is always a safe bet. Favorite take-out place in Middle Vilage Both Chinese and Thai menus are good. Not great, but good. Their Thai menu is a bit better I would say. Pineapple fried rice is awesome and comes in huge portions, it took me two days to finish all of it. Fried banana dessert is about as good of a dessert as youre gonna get in a takeout place, definitely recommend. From Chinese Menu, I recommend the Egg Drop Soup as well as the Pork Fried Rice. Their green curry is a bit too coconut-y for me, although if you're a big fan of coconut you would like it. read more

I love Thai food and was really excited to find they opened a place right here in the neighborhood. I'm not sure if it was a bad batch but overall I didn't like it very much at all. The coconut chicken soup was very greasy and had only two little pieces of chicken in it. I'm going to update this review once I try their Thai food as well. This review is for Green Leaf's Chinese food. I've ordered from here twice and the food was good both times, but I didn't get what I ordered either time. The first time I ordered chicken with broccoli and brown rice. The brown rice was great, not overcooked at all, as can sometimes happen. But I ended up with chicken and mixed vegetables. This was no big deal, as the veggies and chicken were fresh and it still tasted great, it just wasn't what I had ordered. The second time, I got a bit annoyed as I had ordered chicken with broccoli and brown rice and ended up with chicken with broccoli(woohoo!) and pork fried rice(whyyyy?). The chicken with broccoli was great, but the pork fried rice, besides being pretty much the opposite of what I had ordered was super greasy. I kind of wonder if the woman who took my order thought I was referring to fried rice by it's color? At any rate, the food here is good. The incorrect orders are annoying. I cant speak for the chinese food but the 1 thai dish i tried, was atrocious! I couldnt finish it it was so bad! The pad thai was wayyyy off! It lacked a few key ingredients, making the entire dish taste like a chinese version pad thai instead. The chicken was tasteless and the tofu was over cooked. I missed the lunch special, so i was charged upper east side pirces, minus the quality. They dont accept charge. The one star is for cleanliness and decor. read more
