We had a new mower lined up, and he was ready to do his first mowing on July 6. On July 3, I came home to find our lawn had been mowed by Cutting Edge again. I had to let my new mower know not to come that week. At this point, I have come to expect the lack of communication between the front office and the mowers, so I figured there was just a lag in the scheduling. Well, Cutting Edge came again on July 11, and I had to cancel my new mower again! I emailed Brian on July 13 to tell him that we were still getting mowings. He apologized and said that we would not have to pay for them. Now, Reader, you must know what I am going to say next. Yep! We received our July bill promptly in early August; I ignored it, of course. Well, it is now September 7, and sure enough we received yet another invoice with, I kid you not, a 10% late payment fee! I have emailed Brian to let him know and can't wait to hear back from him. I am relating these anecdotes to illustrate the utter lack of professionalism with which Cutting Edge conducts business. With all the great landscaping businesses out there, no one should have to put up with this.

Frank and his team came in and cleaned out my old crappy landscape and put in a beautiful flagstone garden wall staring in the front and going around the side. Plus, all new planting's in the front and kept the planting's in the side garden that I wanted to keep. They did a great job and I couldn't have been more pleased. He was thorough and fast. He gave me recommendations of plants but also worked with what I knew I wanted. After they were done it looked so great I had all the neighbors giving me compliments. Even my in-laws became a new clients. We had such a good experience with Frank, Liz and the entire team that we look forward to our next project together.

And we were right -- from working through different design ideas to picking the stones and the plants, all of it was easy and no pressure. You get the sense that what they want is genuinely for you the customer to love what you choose. And we do. Once the work started, everything went very smoothly and we really appreciated how much care Frank and his crew took with our stuff. Each day they would move things out of the backyard and then back in in the evening. They took care to cover our stuff with tarps, and everything was kept as neat as possible during a renovation like this. I asked him to do an assessment of some recent landscaping that I was disappointed with and to give me an estimate for remaining work. He told me in writing (two emails and one text) that he was going to do the assessment. It was important that he do it by a certain timeframe for a dispute with my credit card, and he was aware of that. He had from Aug. 9 through Aug. 17. Because of him, my allotted time ran out and my claim was denied. That means he cost me $3,400. And he left me no choice but to now go to small claims court. I strongly recommend against him and his company.

Unfortunately, due to such a busy schedule, I was not able to do the work myself. However, I started looking around and I came into contact with Jeremy / South Side Specialties (SSS) via Yelp. I had multiple estimates for a pressure treated retaining wall, three drain pipes, a low level deck tear down, river rock/flagstone and artificial grass install. From day one, I knew he was going to be the company I went with. He was super professional, came in at a fair price, completed the project quickly with a very professional/knowledgeable staff and has been amazing to work with on the back end. He was so good, I recommended him to my parents for a massive hardscape project and to my homeowners association for some tree work our community needs completed. We had no issues with Jeremy / SSS at all. A lot of companies don't really care about you once the check is cashed and the project is completed, but not Jeremy. Throughout working with Jeremy on my home project, he had found out that my grandfather was very ill (eventually passed away). Approximately two weeks after the project was completed and paid for, Jeremy gave me a ring and left me a voicemail checking in on my family and I to see how we were holding up. You have no idea what that meant to us - he's an absolute professional with a big heart and amazing customer service. Jeremy and SSS have my highest recommendation I can give them!
