I contacted Green Gallery on September 7 about engaging for some ongoing garden maintenance on a beautiful garden the previous owner had built on a house we moved into that I did not know how to take care of. Nathan replied right away, and then went dark. 4 days later someone else named Nat replied and said he would be helping and provided three available dates. He showed up at our agreed upon date of September 14. We talked about the backyard which he recommended a seasonal cleanup, which sounded fine to me. I already understood their rates ($40/hour), but he needed to work up an estimate, I guess on time and number of people needed and set expectations that it would take about 9-10 days to get it, and that even when they schedule dates to come do cleanup, it could be plus or minus a few days. Well, it's been 21 days, I've emailed Nat 2-3 times and have not heard back at all. I get the feeling that they're more interested in large one time installs as that is where the money is, maybe ongoing maintenance isn't really what they focus on. Disappointed in the lack of communication either way considering they have pretty good reviews and I see their truck everywhere in our neighborhood. But if it takes this much effort to get them out for initial business than it doesn't bode well for future visits. read more

Nathan and his crew work wonders. He has expert craftsmen for every aspect of landscaping. For us, they did fence & post work/repair, stone and hardscaping, built an arbor and planter boxes, fountain & electrical work and of course the basic landscaping work of irrigation and planting. We had a design done and Nathan and his crew were able to adapt it with ease and perfection. Sometimes, the best plans on paper, just need tweaking and adjustments. They were flexible, responsive and wanted to ensure the job was completed to our liking - not just completed. We plan to use them for quarterly maintenance as our garden begins to grow and adapt. Nathan and his crew at Green Gallery are amazing! We are thrilled with the work they did for us in our back yard. We have lived for the last five years with a very steep and unusable space that was overrun with ivy, weeds, blackberry bushes, and old stumps. It was a pleasure working with Nathan and his team. We have a single-family home on a 10,000 sq foot lot, and needed to completely re-landscape the front and back yards. They recently completed a total overhaul of our property in Berkeley which included a new brick driveway, stone patio & paths, custom fences (both metal and wood), new irrigation system and lots of planting. Not only are the results beautiful, but the process was actually enjoyable. The Green Gallery team was professional, courteous, talented and dedicated to perfection. Nathan and his foreman, Enrique, were on site everyday and provided great customer service. They worked really well with us and the landscape designer (Greer Alley), proposing new ideas that improved upon our plans or dealing with the inevitable surprises as the job progressed. I can't say enough about Green Gallery, who installed my CA native plant yard in 2010, and who continues to maintain it yearly. The garden was just on the Bring Back the Natives garden tour, and over 500 visitors came to the garden, raving about it. Many especially liked the incredible fountain he built for me out of local moss rock boulders. He is one of the most professional, kind people I have had the pleasure of working with. His staff is incredibly hard working and completely on time. I so appreciated how his staff (4 men) spent over 8 hours working on my garden in March-- I let them use my bathrooms and even got them Starbucks--they were that deserving! Nathan Parsley and his crew took our landscape architect's design for a drought tolerant yard, and transformed it into beautiful reality. He first came out to review the landscape plan and site. He then produced a fair priced contract to do the work which included demolition, grading, installation of a drip system, lighting, new top soil, multi-level bark and stone mulch, and drought tolerant plants. His crew accomplished all of this in one week, and kept the yard and common sidewalk area as clean and neat as possible. Nathan also replaced some of the plants which did not do well as some are normally not expected to survive the shock of transportation from nursery to final planting. He employs competent experts in a number of different fields. If you are looking for the cheapest landscaper, this is not the company to use. In 35 years of repeated remodeling and landscaping jobs on our home in Oakland hills, we've come across only two other contractors we were any where near as happy with as Nathan. Nathan excels in all aspects of the work. He knows a lot about plants and design and offers his valuable opinion when asked, but doesn't push his views. He had several suggestions to change the architect's plan (which was very good to start with) that greatly improved the job. His bid was a bit higher than average, but he doesn't "nickel and dime"--thus probably comes in lower at the end. (It is a real pleasure to work that way). He is flexible and easily accepts changes that occur as the the job progresses. The quality of his work is equally outstanding. His crews are extremely competent, quiet, friendly and very professional. There are no long absences while the job sits, yet when the plant we wanted was out of stock, with no real delivery date set, Nathan was quite willing to agree to wait as we wanted, rather than go with second best. He then worked hard to find a source of the preferred plants. When some of the sod provided to him were not up to standard, he worked hard and quickly to get the supplier to fix the problem and committed himself to making us happy. We would absolutely have him back to do another job. read more

I didn't think any landscape professional would be willing to take on my tiny chicken coop extension project, but they did a beautiful job on my project and within the small budget we agreed upon! Everyone who comes over and sees our new chicken coop extension is wowed and comments on the great use of space! Green Gallery did a fantastic job building a very detailed, ornamental fence, a staircase, landscaping the yard, and installing a large, complicated sprinkler system. We live in the hills so the work had to consider an aggressive gradient and gravity. Nathan and his highly skilled team nailed it all. Perfect craftsmanship. Perfect aesthetics. Perfect design. I highly recommend Green Gallery Landscaping for landscaping and design work in the Bay Area. We hired a designer to develop a landscaping plan for our Oakland Hills home. The designer came up with a great plan but Nathan's team really pulled it off. We got quotes from several landscape companies in the area and Nathan's quote was competitive. What really set Nathan apart was his attention to detail. His crew rebuilt a rock retaining wall and added a few others really adding to the aesthetics of the yard. His team also built a fantastic arbor adding to the character of the landscape design. The crew was very professional, courteous, and hard working. When my husband and I got married in our back yard, Nathan and his efficient, hard-working crew of quality guys did a major overhaul, making it look like a an actual venue - it was amazing! I hired Green Gallery to do a hardscaping project on my hillside yard. This included stairs, retaining walls, grading, and the foundation for a patio. The projected costs were reasonable and Nathan was very knowledgable. He offered lots of ideas to help this project come to fruition all throughout our short time working together. The large crew worked so fast and efficiently it was incredible and they expertly executed a great final result. My yard looks wonderful and I get compliments on the high quality of their work. The scope of the project (and cost) did increase as is the nature of this kind of work (now I know). The reason I didn't give Green Gallery 5 stars was that some of the work in addition to the original contract was done without a clear explanation of the costs. If you are on a tight budget, be sure to work out all the details of your project and associated costs before the work begins so that the final bill doesn't come with any surprises. Knowing that now, I would confidently hire Green Gallery for future projects. read more

Woo hoo! As good as it gets! We love Nathan, and his crew are a bunch of secret supermen. Our big and awkwardly sloped backyard was transformed to a family haven in TWO days. Working with Nathan was really fun, he's creative and balances his knowledge with great attention to what we wanted and needed. I really appreciate the work that Nathan and his Green Gallery crew did to transform my backyard into a functional and beautiful space that I can finally enjoy. My existing flagstones were uneven, too spaced out with weeds in between, very unattractive and even dangerous to walk on. Not only that, but my old lawn was pretty much non-existent with mostly dirt that the weeds had gradually taken over. I also badly needed a sprinkler and drip system to maintain my flower beds, other plants and trees. Nathan's team did the work quickly, efficiently and added perks like weeding, blowing leaves and pruning my trees.
