They have the most amazing variety of succulents, and best prices, which is the reason why I'm drawn to go visit 40min away, and so worth it. Unfortunately, I had neglected many of my succulents from the past years, and needed to replenish desperately. This is the perfect place for it!

Owner John greeted us right away, providing an overview of the property. He urged a visit in the spring, when all the flowers would be in their glory. In an open air shed behind their giant logo sign, samples of daylilies and irises showed off their pretty blossoms. Bare root plants were available for sale, so we are going to try two of the lilies and one iris. I have a feeling that we'll be back for more! Off to one side, other favorites like geraniums (pelargoniums) cheerfully bloomed. Knowledgeable staffers were on hand to answer questions about what kind of care each type of plant required. As an extra treat, free posters of their signature plants were offered for free. I happily wandered on the highly weathered wooden floors of the shed while choosing a few items to buy. In a past life, I must have lived in the country. :-) This quirky place felt like home to me.

Let me first start by saying that we've been to this location a few times previously, it was 8/9…read moremonths ago however & since then the store has gone through new ownership and I feel like gone straight downhill... so I do agree with all the (positive) older reviews... PRIOR TO THE CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP HOWEVER!... That being said- I guess this place actually closes at 4pm (not 5pm) .... & they're NOT actually open on Sundays. Only one person working EVER and he doesn't seem to really care about helping anyone, he's just eager to go home.thinking that we have an hour and 30 minutes left before closing for the day. we arrived at the store @ 3:30 only to be told at 3:45 that they were closing shortly... when I asked if he minded elaborating on that... he said "yeah I'm closing in five minutes"... so moral of the story here is I dunno what to say as far as there store hours because they make up everything on a whim... There are few names of plants on ANYTHING. My biggest problem however is that there are also NO prices on ANYTHING ... he explained, he makes up the prices as he goes, because he says "i have all of them memorized"..... ok?... but then why was my wife was given for a price for a specific Palm that she liked, then when I caught back up with the two of them and happen to inquire about the same species of Palm (same size) why did I get a different number then... while looking at the availability of their "unbroken" fountains they still had left since everything seemed to be chipped or cracked on parts... he tried telling me a price for one that actually DID happen to have the amount on the inside of the bowl it said $70... he told me it was 140.... his only response..... "oh!... I guess that's it then"...... needless to say that's when we just turned & just walked away... didn't feel there was anything left to add at that point anymore... he'd said enough.... I do not recommend this place one but .... there are five other nurseries literally on all sides of this place.... I would recommend ANY other one.... Save yourself from the Overpriced, broken inventory and lazy incompetent staff!....

I'm most familiar with the Somis location, though there are several in our area and throughout California. Having worked with Tom and Performance Nursery as a customer, fellow Rotarian, in small business advocacy and for local charities, I'm happy to vouch for his generosity, quick response to concerns of customers and neighbor's, and continued support for the local community. His employees are some of the kindest and most knowledgable I've met in the industry. They love their work and they love their boss. This is part of why it's a pleasure to shop there. Prices are reasonable also. Despite losing his 20 acres of leased property after decades of local growing, (and despite the signatures of thousands of local supporters, neighbor's, government officials and agencies fighting for the company), Tom continues to mange multiple locations with grace, concern for neighbor's and care for his employees. We are happy Performance Nursery withstood the challenge and stayed in business locally!! Go wander around the property and know that you're supporting a wonderful business.
