4/5 Stars The Green Apple has that classic small-town restaurant feel and the food is solid. The interior is a bit on the sad side, and with most of the windows covered there isn't much natural light, which takes away from the atmosphere. That said, the pancakes were really good--especially since they're made with vanilla, which adds a great flavor you don't find everywhere. Overall, a good local spot with tasty food, just wish the inside felt a little brighter and more inviting. read more

Good old school cooking! Great place for breakfast and very clean. Light fluffy biscuits. Very pleasant waitress.

Relaxed as your own kitchen table and pretty quick service. It's always a busy little place. Seems like the whole town eats there so that's saying something. Everything is prepared to your order and fresh. Great excuse to skip the dishes and eat brunch out on the weekend. read more

I've been going here for a long time! I've tried most of the meals and 85-90% of them are amazing! The other 10-15% aren't horrible, they either just weren't for me or it was a bad day! Pretty fast too! I highly recommend it! read more

This place is "something else!" After a long drive through long Nebraska on the way back to Los Angeles from NYC, we were tired of the Wendy's and other chains that repeat themselves on the Interstate like a cartoon. So I checked my Garmin for exit restaurants and Green AppleCafe was in the database. Did a quick Yelp and the few reviews were okay to go. Drove off into the small dusty town and pulled up in front of the Green Apple filled with locals and a sign that read, "Homemade Pies." Perfect: Exactly what we were looking for--mom and pop heartland local restaurant. Well--not exactly as it turned out: We sit down and I order the House Famous recipe of Broast Chicken which comes with a side salad and mashed potatoes. She orders a Turkey Sandwich. I also order the house Chile. The Broast Chicken is really the local code name for fried chicken. It was good but fried. The mashed potatoes come out sopping with a cream on top you can barely taste the potatoes I had to try to get as much of it off the potatoes. The side salad was served in a cup the size of a tea cup--it's the smallest salad I have ever seen, and the lettuce was kind of old. The Turkey was a few thin slices of processed turkey on white bread--nothing homemade here. The Chile was thick and very good. Now comes the Big One: On the wall was a list of many "Homemade Pies" and we were craving the Apple Pie--our favorite. We were willing to forget everything for a homemade apple pie in Nebraska. Like a pitcher warming up to throw the game winning fastball, we always, always ask if the pies were actually made in the restaurant or were they commercially made and shipped in. It's a patent question we ask all over the USA. Very few places bother make their own stuff these days but we were optimistic here. So we ask and are told that most of the pies including the Apple come in frozen pre-made. "Homemade" at the GAC means they heat the oven and warm the pie up. Only the coconut, and lemon pies were made by the owner at home we were told--maybe one other. It was a big disappointment because we were led to believe that this restaurant was mom and pop cooking in the heartbread of America, a change from the land of chain restaurants, but it was not much different in many respects unfortunately. read more

We stopped into the Green Apple Cafe early on a Sunday morning greeted by the waitress I asked, and took her suggestion, sourdough French toast bacon, eggs. Some papers on floor under the booth. Waitress did not stand up and was talking to me when I came in. Didn't know who, didn't see who was talking to me. Waitress was lifeless. Coffee did not have dairy product, only Coffee-Mate. Ordered special, tacos for Taco Tuesday. Salsa and sour cream ramekins are served sitting on top of tacos. Beef in tacos was cold. read more

New owner, smaller portions prices raised. I went in today, ordered, waited almost 1/2 hour in a cafe that wan't half full, only to be served COLD, room temperature meal that was very bland. After 2 or 3 bites, I left a $20 bill on the table and walked out......... read more

Green Apple was recommended by an employee at the supermarket to my friend and I who have been roadtripping across the midwest. We originally stopped in at Country Cookie across the street because we liked the name, but it ended up being way, way, WAY less than what we expected (and I don't think we expected much!) When we walked over to Green Apple, we knew that it was right choice from the start. The tables we bustling, and the locals looked happy. There was an extensive pie list [at least 13 different kinds], a lunch buffet, and a full menu to choose from! We both had deliciously satisfying burgers, and just the small-town diner feel we were looking for! It is a little off the highway, but definitely worth rolling into this small charming town to enjoy a home-made meal for the hungry traveller. read more

this review is long overdue for some reason I think I posted this on here before but it took flight and left this page somehow. There is not much in town to eat at on a weekend morning unless you want this or BK. for reasons that BK sucks we decided to come here. As most small town places it has not been updated in years. Sure they may move a table around here and there to make it look "good" but it looks like something from the 70's inside and in not such a good way. Most of the locals know that if you want coffee you need to get it yourself so they have the coffee pots in a convenient location for that good luck getting your server to actually fill your coffee the way they should. When we went the kitchen staff was so busy preparing their lunch buffet that they were not paying attention to the people in the dining room waiting for the breakfast. we all started looking at each other "whos going to get up and walk out first???" The food was taking FOREVER ! maybe they need to close for an hour between breakfast and lunch so they can get their crap together. One couple got up and left. We were about too but then the server through a plate of eggs on our table saying they were "on the house" because those other people left . Ummm we don't want their eggs,, you never even asked us ,, and thanks for "throwing it on our table and walking away.. " ( like I say this happened quit some time ago so don't know if they fixed this . I wanted to leave badly,, would of too if it wasn't for my little guy being so hungry. Finally got our food . and it was mediocre at best. Like I said they were too involved with lunch to pay attention to what they were doing. oh and by the way the pies are not "homemade" .. if this place cannot get their act together for a simple breakfast do you really think they are going to spend all day making a bunch of pies ? The Green Apple features home-cooked meals, was filled with local people, and has an extensive menu -- ten kinds of pie, several lunch specials, six soups, and a salad bar. We ordered the french dip sandwich lunch special, chicken firecracker soup, a bowl of chili, and split a piece of peanut butter crunch pie. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. The bill came to $15 for the two of us. If you're ever traveling I-80 through Nebraska, you should definitely make a point to stop here (only a mile or so from the highway). read more

Very rude staff. Food was average. Hours of operation are not posted anywhere. We were rudely asked to leave at 2:30 pm because they were closed. Had no idea they closed at 2:00 pm on a Sunday. Would not recommend this place. Will gladly take my money elsewhere. read more

Mom and Pop restaurant. Good coffee, great blueberry French toast. Very friendly. It's a short way off I-80. I will go back.

YUM! We stopped here our cross-country roadtrip because we were on a quest to find the best cherry pie in the country. Their pies blew us away. Although they usually have an extensive list, we got there a little bit late in the day and had about 11 to choose from (still an impressive selection). We tasted the cherry and raspberry peach. Green Apple is a Ma and Pa type cafe that I found friendly people, an awesome breakfast menu, and. delicous French Toast, eggs, and bacon. The cafe sits around 40 - 45 people. Prices were slightly below what I have paid in other breakfast cafes in my travels. The menu had a front and back page of just breakfast items to pick from. My coffee cup never had a chance to get empty and if it had you were welcome to get up and help yourself at a coffee type bar they had towards the front of the cafe. This was my first visit to this cafe but would go back for sure. If you want a new modern chain type place this may not be for you but if you want a Ma and Pa type place with friendly people and great breakfast I would not hesitate to go here again. If I am ever in Cozad during a noon meal I would give the Green Apple a try also as I know they offer different daily specials. read more

I should say that I can only speak to the pie and milkshake, because that is all I ordered. That pie was five stars. The milkshake was more like 3 stars, hence the 4 stars. I had been looking for 100 miles or more along 80 for a good little cafe, without luck. Back to the pie: I think there were about 10 to choose from and I chose apple. It was solid pie. Clearly a homemade crust with melty vanilla ice cream all over it. The wait staff was extremely nice. Stop in. read more

Cozy little place for breakfast. Omelette and cinnamon rolls were great. Service was friendly. overall a good experience..

the service is lacking on most days. I stay clear of the bacon because last time it was cooked till it was burnt, and it was rancid. half the time the toast is just buttered bread. most food is greasy. I will say the chicken strip basket is good although it is cheaper than the chicken strip meal and there is no difference in the meal size. Cozad is limited on options so this is about as good as it gets. read more

Great home cooked good in this small town. Probably some of the best home made pie I have had in a long time.

Get the club. Its perfect. This little small town gem is worth the short jaunt off of I-80.

I have lived in Saginaw, MI - Rockford, IL - Duluth, GA - Pittsfield, MA and Nashua, NH and now Cozad Nebraska and have eaten at the Green Apple for 6 years It has been great food and the best service of any place I have ever lived. read more
