Best Greek restaurant in Markham!…read more If you're craving authentic Greek food, I highly recommend Main St Greek. I come here often and plan to continuing dining here for yummy Greek food. Food: Classic Greek Salad (5/5) - fresh, tasty salad that's great to share. I love Greek salad in general and this hits the spot Saganaki (5/5) - flaming cheese! I don't love cheese too much but saganaki I'll eat for sure. Savoury cheese topped with a squeeze of lemon and pairs well with the complimentary garlic bread. Calamari (5/5) - Nice, large slices of fried calamari with a side of tzatziki. I can eat this for days! Pork souvlaki stick (5/5) - Well-seasoned pieces of pork on a stick and grilled to perfection! Comes with a side of tzatziki and tastes great! Service: - our server was very friendly and the staff too - food came out relatively quick - free underground parking btw *they also sell a small tub of their Greek salad dressing to take home

The soup was amazing, you could tell it was homemade as the chicken had bones. It was beyond fresh. The saganaki came next, it was disappointing that the server couldn't get the flame going but all is good anyways. Then came the Greek salad that come with both dinners, as you can see the dressing was abundant and it was flavourful. Onto the Chicken souvlaki dinner and pork gyros dinner. You could tell this was made authentically Greek as they were delectable. The quality and taste was through the roof. This is a must try for any Greek food lovers and I HIGHLY recommend. I will be back even if it is a 30 minute drive. It's worth the drive and the time.

It was a really nice spot for a special night... cozy, welcoming, and not overly loud. We enjoyed everything we ordered, but the saganaki was definitely the standout. The wait staff brought it out and poured a shot of liquor over the cheese before lighting it on fire at the table, which added a fun touch without feeling gimmicky. Beyond the presentation, the cheese itself was excellent... crisp on the outside, warm and soft inside, and really well seasoned. Easily something I'd come back for. The mango ginger spritz was light and refreshing, not too sweet, the Australian lamb chops were cooked nicely, tender, and full of flavor without being overly heavy. We ended the perfect night with baklava and vanilla ice cream. It was flaky, just sweet enough to be shared between us. Portions weren't huge, but we left feeling content. We did have to make a reservation well in advance, which I'd definitely recommend. Prices feel appropriate for a special occasion rather than an everyday dinner. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Overall, a great experience and a place I'd happily come back to.

I know I can't take advantage of it since I arrived at 4pm, but their flyer menu that was available for any customers to take near their entrance, indicated that the pita is only a dollar or so more at regular times. Seems like a great deal even at regular menu price. Whether it's on purpose or by design, it ended up to be a case of bait and switch. By the time I cashed out, the price was definitely higher than the flyer price. Keep in mind they don't just have one flyer at the entrance, they had many. Not to mention, there were plenty of the same flyers near the cash area. I think they owe it to customers to at least manually make corrections on the menu or to verbally tell customers about the new price before they get cashed out. As for the souvlaki, it was pretty generic tasting. The souvlaki reminded me of frozen ones that you can get at supermarkets. I understand that during inflationary times, things are tough for business owners, but my small request is for them just to be transparent about it. Come to think about it, I actually wonder if they are still honouring that $4.99 lunch special. It I won't bother finding out. I'd rather go up the street for better quality Greek food.

Moved out of Toronto years ago so stopped going. Last night was in Richmond hill and saw this location and went in. Well the service was ok friendly but not attentive. Anytime we needed something we had to wave someone down. Pricing for a small pork plate was $26. A little high. Now they stopped serving bread decades ago at the original location and that is still in place. The salad was generous HOWEVER the feta was somehow processed into uniform sized tiny ball type portions. Very weird and why. Feta is a crumbled cheese. I chose fresh vegetables and roast potatoes with the pork. Small serving of green beans and orange peppers. Good serving of roast potatoes, however they were undercooked. The star of the show, the pork, was cooked perfectly. Portion was small. And yes I order the small one. But based on the price I was expecting more. Only about 8 people at 6 pm. All of us were occupying tables around the large gas fireplace as the restaurant was cold. I would have given a two but as the pork was perfectly cooked I gave it a three. Not the Astoria I remembered from my past. Ps the tzatziki was still good.

This time I brought two…read morefriends with me so that I could try more of the menu, and spoiler alert: we all had a lovely meal haha. Food was delicious, service was friendly, prices were very reasonable, and the drive there was 100% worth it! Further breakdown below for what we ordered if you like planning your visit ahead of time like I do. Pulled the following prices from their menu posted on Google Reviews that they posted in August/September of 2022 so prices may have gone up due to inflation since then :') Still worth it if you ask me! (we ordered all of the below, split the bill, and ee still each paid way less than $30 per person - left feeling so full too) -[SAGANAKI] $13.95 (8/10) This is a kefalotyri cheese that is lightly floured, panfried, and then flamed with Ouzo! It is also served with a lemon. I opted to not squeeze lemon juice on my portion, but my friends assured me that the lemon helped tamp down the saltiness of this dish. That's to me is the only reason it isn't a perfect 10/10 dish was because I found it too salty when eaten on its own - would still order again though! -[TARAMOSALATA] $6.95 (10/10) This is a spread of creamy fish toe topped with Asteri extra virgin olive oil! One of my all time favorite spreads is this one haha. Their spreads are served as just a spread so you'll have to order pita separately to consume it if that was your intention. I personally like this spread (and the next one so much) that I just slather it on everything I order :D -[TZATZIKI] $5.95 (10/10) Tzatziki is typically a yogurt-based spread that consists of garlic, and cucumbers! The one they make here is so good in all possible ways. It is just salty enough, has just the right amount of garlic, and the portion is generous. -[PORK SOUVLAKI STICK] $1.85 (10/10) These sticks are sold individually - there was a slight miscommunication to our server as we tried to order just ONE stick to try first but she ended up putting the order through as three of each. She made the right call haha. The pork one was better than the chicken one if you ask me - meat was very flavorful, and juicy! -[CHICKEN SOUVLAKI STICK] $1.95 (10/10) These sticks are sold individually! First time I ordered these, they looked dry but hot damn, biting into it makes you realize that looks can certainly be deceiving. The chicken was moist and well seasoned! Absolutely delicious. -[TYROPITA] $5.95 (10/10) This is a phyllo pastry filled with feta - we originally wanted their spanakopita (feta AND spinach in the phyllo pastry) but their bakery was out of it so we opted for this variant instead. Decently sized portion for sure! Pastry was flaky as heck in the best way -[VILLAGE STYLE GREEK FRIES] $7.95 (8/10) This is a dish of fries that is traditionally dressed with imported barrel feta. Personally, I think it could use a little more like perhaps a dollop of tzatziki to liven it up but otherwise, it is certainly a good dish to pair with the spreads -[PATATES FOURNOU LEMONATES] $3.95 (10/10) Oven-roasted lemon potatoes! These must be cooked in its sauce for a long time because boy, are they flavorful :) Always love a good order of lemon potatoes so if you do too, be sure to order these -[GRILLED PITA] $1.00 Warm pita that is brushed with Asteri extra virgin olive oil that is cut in four pieces. We got two orders of these to share, and it was plenty because of everything else we ordered too I made a reservation in advance because I always like to be sure I can get a table but on a Sunday at 1:30PM, we were the only table :O The last time I came here was on a weekend night, and it was a full house so that was appalling this time around. Highly recommend you check this place out for good food!

We started with the Philoxenia special appetizer -- a striking tower of thinly sliced zucchini, eggplant, and cheese, crisped to perfection. Paired with a cheesy dip, it was an irresistible combination of crunch and comfort. For mains, we ordered the beef mousakka and a Greek-style paella. The paella was a standout -- a flavor-packed dish loaded with mussels, shrimp, and calamari in a rich tomato sauce over tender orzo. Dessert came with table-side theatrics. Layers of phyllo for the baklava were heated in honey, then stacked with ice cream -- a creative and indulgent finale that built anticipation as we watched. Service was attentive without ever feeling overbearing. We felt genuinely well cared for throughout the evening. On our way out, we noticed a gorgeous garden-style patio at the entrance. Next time, we'll be requesting a table there for sure.

It's the kind of space that encourages ordering a half litre of wine (their house versions are only $27) and easing into the evening. A basket of warm, crusty bread starts the meal, with our server snipping dried oregano right into the olive oil - a fragrant, rustic touch. A thick, zesty red pepper hummus also arrives for those who prefer a spread over a dip. Philoxenia offers calamari ($30.95) grilled or fried. The appetizer consists of two sizeable portions of squid with a rather tasteless "house sauce" (a seafood sauce and mayo concoction?) on the side. The calamari itself was fresh, though I wish the thicker end had been cooked slightly longer, since it bordered on gelatinous. Skip the house sauce and pair it with the roasted pepper hummus instead; it works surprisingly well. The lamb chops ($59.95) are the star: four beautifully grilled chops served with a thick smear of tzatziki, soft lemony potatoes, and simply sautéed vegetables (broccoli and green beans). For me, it's these minimally fussed-over dishes that makes for quintessential Greek dining. We added the grilled vegetables ($27.95) on the side, though there really wants a lot of vegetables. Think two thin slices of zucchini and eggplant, a single roasted carrot's worth, and a couple rings of grilled onion. What is there is delicious - drizzled with balsamic and sprinkled with feta - but for a dish centered around vegetables, I expected more. For vegetarians, a mound of rice and lemon potatoes help round it out into a decent main. One thing I genuinely appreciated about Philoxenia is they don't try to rush you. It's a restaurant that lets you linger, offering a leisurely meal in a quiet, spacious dining room with plenty of breathing room between tables... something that's increasingly rare in Toronto's newer, sardine-can-style restaurants. Philoxenia nails that cozy, unhurried Greek dining experience that makes you want to stay a little longer and sip a little more wine.
