Celebrated our daughter's 12th birthday here with some of her closest friends…read more Emily walked me through the plan of an art journaling/collage making with this age group. She was a fantastic art guide for the children- she encouraged collaboration and open thinking, joy and whimsy! Love how the class was all about connection and process rather than cookie cutter pieces. Looking forward to taking a class there myself for me and my friends. They offer lots of interesting classes and workshops too. A true community gem! Thank you, Hive!

Such a gem in South Pasadena…read more A group of mom friends and I did the Thursday art journaling class and it was so much fun! It was so nice to be able to show up and be instructed. We were able to tap into our creativity and have a fun time. Emily, the owner had wine and snacks and explained everything in detail so you didn't need to have any experience. There was a group of ladies that seemed to be regulars and it very much created a community vibe. And the best part at the end is there was very little cleanup. I can't wait to come back during the day when the shop is open in the front and browse for some gifts.

Once the class started, I had to step away from my own painting to help guide them through the first few steps, which felt a bit off. The instructor moved through the class a bit too quickly at times, and I found myself trying to catch up. As someone who doesn't paint, I would've preferred a slower pace. Wine is not included, but they do offer a selection for purchase. Overall, it was a nice experience, but could be more enjoyable with a more relaxed pace and clearer accommodation for late arrivals.

Parking…read morewas easy to find, but getting out was confusing so be sure to look down at the arrow signs. The venue is spacious and clean. Lots of rooms. Our room for the day was upstairs. AC was on, breakfast table with coffee/tea were ready for us when we arrived. The croissants were delicious! And the presentation of food was beautiful! Fruits were fresh and yummy. For lunch I had salmon and this dish has so much flavor. Lemonade and iced tea were prepared for us. Just when I thought we finished the day, we were surprised with cookie and vanilla ice cream. The cookie was warm, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Vanilla ice cream was hitting the spot. You can't fail this combination. The food really blew me away although I was there for work. Friendly and attentive staff. Love the decor and it has its charm!

We attended a fabulous wedding here at the University Club of Pasadena in late September. This…read morehistoric club founded in 1922 made for a beautiful venue in a great location. The couple was able to personalize with photos and memorabilia set up on shelves in the breezeway inset area which was a sweet touch. The wedding ceremony took place outdoors on the Garden Patio. It was a gorgeous but warm, very sunny day and the seating on the right side could have perhaps used a sail shade of some sort as it was blindingly bright and quite warm on that side! It's a small thing as the ceremony was short, but thought I'd mention for anyone considering the space at a time of year when that's a factor. After the ceremony, we walked into the adjacent 1922 Lounge for the cocktail hour. This was a wonderful space with an eye-catching bar area, lots of seating and high tops, as well as plenty of room to mingle. We loved the signature cocktails and the passed hors d'oeuvres were absolutely delicious and plentiful! Onto the reception in the huge "Main Dining Room" with vaulted wood beam ceilings, chandeliers and warm hardwood flooring. Everything was configured beautifully, food was again delicious and the venue staff was excellent. I loved that you could retreat to the garden patio or other areas within the club when you needed a quiet moment! So from a guest's point of view, the University Club of Pasadena was the perfect venue for a wedding or any event for that matter. Great location, facility, food and staff!

My work wasnt good but other had the most beautiful paintings. I dont know how they made such small lines when mines came out as blobs. Cyanotype Workshop is also really fun. You just put items on a paper when youre ready and let the sun do the work. You just need to check their website to see what event is going on. Cyanotype Workshop

It was creative, engaging, and fun to walk through. The space itself is on the smaller side, so you can take in the entire exhibit in about thirty minutes. The VWDC is a wonderful community organization with a rich history in our neighborhood, and it's so…read moremuch more than just a rental hall. However, I'm going to keep my review focused on the banquet/event hall facilities. I just hosted a team party for the AYSO squad I coach at the Dad's Club, and it proved to be the PERFECT venue. In short, I would recommend it for nearly any event with 30+ guests looking for a clean and casual spot to meet or celebrate. Details: What you get is a large open hall with high ceilings, clean restrooms, a sound system, a projector and screen, and a stage. A small kitchen area has a sink and refrigerator that comes in handy if you're hosting a party. The bright lighting can be turned off and substituted with twinkle lights to set a comfortable mood. On one side, there is a room with dozens of rectangular and round tables and chairs hanging on wheeled racks that can easily be rolled out for setup and cleanup. With the right amount of décor, the hall can be dressed up for a semi-formal event like a holiday party. The volunteer staff are all extremely friendly and helpful with any questions you may have. Notes: * Parking is limited, and most guests will have to park on the street or in a lot a short walk away. * The venue is tucked away behind a fire station and next to a baseball field. Make sure to let your guests know how to find it, or perhaps tie a few balloons by the entrance of the driveway. * Bring table covers. Final Note: The VWDC is a non-profit organization, and your rental payment will support programs for local youth. Win-Win!

Elegant and Swanky Paint Party!!!…read more Such an original type of party for friends. Put together about 12 of us for a Paint the Grapes party. I along with all my guests were extremely impressed with the setup. Very personal and private. Included in our ticket were excellent appetizers / finger foods, wine & beer. Honestly, our men were not overly excited about the date-night scheduled for them. Surprisingly they all had the most fun and put so much time in their painting.
