Do not recommend GW for property management. They do not care about their property owners or their guests. We briefly used them for property management management of our condo in breck. Not only did we have more damages in a few months than we had previously had in multiple years, but our returning guests also reported that they had difficult booking our place (GW often would suggest other condos, even if the guest requested ours), multiple issues with condo not clean on arrival or GW not avail to help with key/access issues (of which there were many). While they ultimately did pay for many of the things that guests damaged, I cannot recommend a company that cares very little about their guests or their owners. read more

We stayed in a cute, cottage-style room with plenty of space and a nice hot tub. Accommodating all seven of us comfortably, it was the perfect retreat. The charming decor added to the cozy atmosphere, making it feel like a home away from home. Best of all, it was just a five-minute walk from downtown, allowing us to explore the area with ease. I booked a condo through Airbnb to take my sons snowboarding for his 12th birthday. Everything was planned and we were set to go, but as of today both of my kids tested positive for Covid19. Since we all live in the same house my wife and I are also in quarantine as to not spread it to anyone else. I contacted Great Western to move the dates of the rental since i cannot take the kids with positive tests and clear symptoms on a plane to CO. Great western denied my request to change the dates. They stated that since i made the reservation in Dec and that it was in a few days there was nothing they could do. Obviously if I had known this was going to happen in December I would have planned accordingly. They sited that their cancellation and modification policy does not allow them to make the changes. At no time did I request a refund of any sort, just to move the dates. I asked for the modification policy and they have yet to send me a copy of it. Airbnb support reached out to request a change in dates or a refund and they were also declined. They had no sympathy for the situation and just wanted the money. I would be afraid to rent from them in the future, god forbid something go wrong in the condo there would probably be no response or help since they really dont care about taking care of their guests. In the end we lost 90% of the money and im not sure we will be able to book a trip for my sons birthday this year. Really sucks to have such heartless people in the world especially with all that everyone has endured over the last couple of years. I just hope that if they ever find themselves in this situation they find someone with some compassion. read more

i've been staying at GW Lodging properties for the balance of 20 years. Historically, they represented a good value with responsive and friendly service at the front office. This has been in steady decline over the past 5 to 7 years, and this year they fell off the cliff. Upon checking into a $450+ per night property, the unit hadn't been turned over. All beds unmade, unflushed toilets, and dirty towels piled up in the tub. My family had to scramble to find someplace to eat as we couldn't get into the condo for several hours more, later in the evening. This company is clearly suffering from a grave lack of leadership. It feels like a formerly good restaurant who's executive chef, bar manager, and half of the cooks have left. They did refund a $160 cleaning fee, which felt rather perfunctory and dismissive on a nearly $4000 reservation. I won't be renting from them again, and I suggest that you also look elsewhere. Management of rental properties takes dedication, friendliness, and a high focus on customer service. GW Lodging is no longer that. read more

PLEASE READ THIS AND TAKE IT SERIOUSLY! DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM! My family was scheduled to visit one of their properties the week of Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, 4 of our family members were recently exposed to COVID. We ask to change the date of our reservation to keep the rest of the family safe as some of us are high risk. We even offered to pay the difference of another holiday week. Chris at Great Western Lodging was not having it. I am so upset we spent $3K and now have lost it all. I was not asking for my money back just to move the dates. The travelers insurance I was offered through VRBO said it does not cover COVID and I was not offered any ins through GWL. SUPER DISAPPOINTED AND A BIG WASTE OF $. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF DURING THIS PANDEMIC!!! As you can see they replied. I was not offered any additional travels insurance through GWL. I was however offered to change my dates to a week in December. I explained my 3 kids are in school and need a week they are out of school. The offer to move to December was then rescinded and I was told I'm out of luck. So it can be moved it is Just if they want to help you or not. And as you can see if you read the reviews they are taking advantage of the situation. He said they have been in business for the last 20 years, well if they keep this up they won't last another 20! Rip off! Do your home work people and read reviews before booking with them. Will not be completely negative. The reservationist Kim upon booking our travel was personable and accommodating. However, once we arrived to our unit, (THE POWDERHORN BUILDING) the unit was dirty and disheveled. Kitchen light flickered, couch cushions leaned over, drawers half open, and BED was old and extremely uncomfortable. The bed was so old I had such bad allergies-- My eyes wouldn't stop rushing down my face, nose and throat itched nonstop. Romantic right?? I had to take a Benadryl every day which made me drowsy, which limited me doing much and it was supposed to be an active trip! I tried sleeping on the couch as I was miserable on the bed but the carpet and the couch in living room was just as old and dirty and my allergies were miserable there too. I honestly tried to find ways not to go into this expensive unit because i knew it be miserable once I arrived. We called and complained towards the end of our trip as we didn't want to be annoying customers. They had no resolution option besides changing the beds sheets. That doesn't change the fact that it's the most uncomfortable bed we've ever slept in (we noticed reviews on this units bed were poor which verified it) and changing sheets doesn't change the fact the bed is so old that allergies will not leave the room just because a thin sheet is changed. Meanwhile they NEVER once called us back to see if it helped. I emailed them the following morning to let them know that unfortunately the resolution did nothing. They never even replied back to my email. I sent them videos of the issues to confirm issues. Nothing back. To me, that's horrible customer service. Beyond bad. They were fully aware of the many issues + I was suffering from these allergies and ignored it completely. (Also, the jacuzzi was not on site and GW Lodging didn't know where it was. Throughout the trip, I asked several staff members and each one had a different answer. Needless to say we didn't use it cause we couldn't find it. They also didn't give me a password which was needed to use the jacuzzi! When I called and asked for that they didn't have it. I chose this unit because I needed a jacuzzi due to my back issues which was stated when I reserved the unit) If you use them be-sure-to-know any issues you'll have you'll going into it AS-IS. I have to say despite all the negative reviews we had a fantastic experience. The unit was exactly as shown in the pics online on the website. The office was very attentive and helpful. We were also allowed to extend our stay for a half day until 9pm that night since we had a red eye and didn't want to check out at 10am. It was 50% of our nightly rental which we felt was very fair. Our unit was clean and supplied well (except it was missing a spatula!). The only downside is that the heat rises so the heat in the master room upstairs was very hot. The unit notes recommended you open the window some to allow for fresh air which worked perfectly. The only downside was our unit backed up to the intersection on the Main Street (we stayed off Broadmore --I think) and having had a snow storm, all we heard was the snow plows dragging their equipment all night. We finally closed the windows and used a box fan in the closet to drown out the noise. And would be great for black out curtains too! Otherwise everything was perfect for us. Surprised on any complaints out there! read more

We typically rent a condo from GWL and have rarely had any issues. This stay was also the same way. We had two issues that came up with our condo when we were there and both were handled with immediate attention and great responsiveness. The first was there was a power outage that impacted the entire town of Breckenridge for a few hours. We weren't sure what was happening so we called the emergency number since it was during off hours (7:30am) and they responded right away and asked us if we happened to be calling about a power outage. We said yes and they let us know that most of the town was currently without power and that the power company was aware and actively working on the situation. The second was one of the lamps in the bathroom went out one day when I turned the light switch on. The lamp made a very loud popping sound and the lights flashed on and immediately off; the sound was so loud it made me jump. We contacted the emergency line again as it was late in the evening and the maintenance man came right up to take a look. Since it was a weekend evening he said he would do his best to contact the electrician but likely wouldn't hear back until Monday. When we saw the maintenance man on Sunday, he told us he had left a message but hadn't heard back yet and would follow up on Monday. The light was fixed on Monday afternoon. Front desk staff was also very friendly and helpful. When we were an hour away from their closing time and hadn't checked in yet, they called to ask if we were still checking in and provided us with alternative check-in instructions in case we arrived after closing. Would definitely go with them again. read more

It is hard for me to post negative reviews however when I'm such a beautiful place you should not have so many issues. Our rental was near the road and the sound went straight through to our rooms from all of the traffic. The thermostats were not operating in all of the areas correctly and would not turn down, the floor had radiant heating which was nice until it became overwhelmingly warm. The house also became too warm to sleep. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable and the place was run down. On the positive side the location was great just a short walk to town. read more

Our stay at Riverbend 216 Feb 5-10 2023 was motivated in part by our having stayed at Riverbend (different unit) before and our previous good experience with Great Western Lodging. Individual condos at Riverbend vary widely in condition but Unit 216 is in rather bad shape. Most egregious is the depiction in photos and text of sleeping surfaces at the second floor landing and in the living room. Most folks know that sleeper sofas are not quite the same as regular beds. However, these two "sleeper" sofas are completely unsuited for human use. When unfolded the sofas' support platforms are torn, have missing springs and are down significantly at the head and foot. They are completely unusable as beds and should be removed from the unit description. The "mattresses" on the couches are so dirty, damaged and thin that they appear to have been repeatedly run over by a steam roller. The Great Western staff provided an air mattress which was better than sleeping on the floor - but not by much. In this area the Great Western folks were a bit disingenuous - claiming they only know about such unusable furnishings if the housekeeping staff reports it. It seems unrealistic to expect folks cleaning the unit would have any insight into the condition of stowed sleeper sofas. The listed complement of sleeping surfaces for Unit 216 borders on false advertising. This unit really only sleeps 3 "separately". There were several other issues with Unit 216 that beg for repair: - upstairs bathroom door is broken and doesn't close. - upstairs bathroom shower controls are broken and it is difficult to control the temperature. - upstairs bathroom tub does not drain properly and users must shower while ankle deep in water. - downstairs bathroom shower controls are also loose and came off when trying to operate. - "sleeper" couch and arm chair in the living room are well past their useful life. The fabric is torn and the cushions are dead. They are not even suitable for donation to charity. - when dispensing water through the refrigerator door large puddles appear at the base of the refrigerator. - some of the humidifiers leak and were thus unusable. As for the Riverbend complex itself, the indoor sauna and hot tub were labelled "closed for repair" for our entire visit Although we like Riverbend for its location, our experience with Unit 216 was well below our expectations. The Great Western staff were responsive and courteous, but they should either stop listing Unit 216 in their portfolio or significantly revise their description of the property. Also beware that Great Western only posts reviews on its website that are 4 stars and above. Don't be fooled by the high marks their filtered set of reviews imply. read more

DO NOT BOOK WITH GWL! We planned a stay in Breckenridge over the holidays but now with Covid cases surging in our area, we are heeding the advice not to travel. We were so looking forward to visiting and being with family for a few days. We did not cancel lightly and had hoped GWL would consider at least a credit towards a future stay given the pandemic situation. The response was just a flat "nope" and "nothing we can do." So a loss of $1700 for two nights. I just can't believe they won't even offer the credit. We would have happily come at anytime in the next 6 months or so, whenever it's safe. Wish I had checked these reviews first. I see we aren't the only ones disappointed with their "customer service". Never again! read more

Worst ever !! I had a trip booked for March 2020, Covid came and we had to cancel, no return of money! Disputed this with Amex and they were told by GWL that I had a reservation for March 2021, and would not refund me. This August, they up and cancelled my 2021 trip and have refused to return my money. Amex says the case is closed. Totally sucks to rip people off during a pandemic. We stayed here this week, Riverbend Unit 216. The unit was 55 degrees when we arrived and took 12 hours to warm up to 70 degrees with the heat turned up and fireplace on. The entry door has no barrier to prevent the cold from coming underneath so we had to fold up a rug and block out the cold. The biggest problem we had is the emergency alarm that went off THREE times yesterday! The fire department shut it off the first time within 15-20 minutes. Then it went off again and alarmed for 45 minutes!! We called management and were told someone was on their way. Then it went off again when we were sleeping around 10pm. We called management again to find out why this was happening and if it was going to keep happening. The young man on the phone had no idea what the problem was and could not guarantee it wouldn't happen in the middle of the night. Being that we had an early morning flight, we were fed up with ZERO communication from management about the situation and drove to Denver at 11pm and rented a hotel room. Nobody emailed us or called to apologize for this or update us as to why this was happening. I called the manager today (Erin) who had zero empathy, offered no apologies and said "this happens and nobody else complained except you!"Extremely unprofessional and unqualified to handle managing a property!!! I spoke with a gentleman at Blue River, another management company of this property, who was extremely apologetic about the situation, explained what the problem was and assured me it wouldn't happen again, which at this point was too little, too late. I would not recommend staying at a resort that does not offer apologies or update their renters as to why they are suffering through extremely loud alarms several times in one day. The lady manager of this property needs some training in customer service and several courses on property management. The only positives were easy access to the slopes and a nice parking garage. The room was extremely dated, poor temperature control and not roomy enough for 5 people to enjoy living room together. Highly disappointed in our stay and will be sure we never spend another dime here in the future! read more

We are supposed to be in Breckenridge tomorrow for a much anticipated ski trip with friends. Found out Sunday, March 15, 2020 that the resorts closed down due to the coronavirus. Called GWL, no answer multiple calls. Sent an email asking for a refund or the opportunity to choose another open date within a year and received a form letter back, stating that there would be no type of compensation period. They won't even refund the cleaning fee!! Hello, the house will not need cleaning because we are being responsible adults and heeding the warnings from our President and the city council of Breckenridge. This is an unprecedented event! We are trying to protect not only ourselves but the people who live and work in Breckenridge. The airline has refunded, the lift tickets refunded, the snowboard rental fee refunded, why isn't GWL being a responsible business? Greed! Shame on you for stealing our money! Will NEVER rent from you EVER again and will make sure everyone I know is aware of your greed. read more

Please read the other reviews and take note of the lack of compassion in the company's responses. We are currently staying here and the unit is so so dirty. I have been having to pick dust bunnies off of my infant. I asked about a cleaning and they stated they do not provide mid-stay cleanings. I understand if that's not provided, but the unit should absolutely be cleaned prior to guests arriving. Especially during a pandemic. I have called to get necessities such as towels and toilet paper and room keys (they continue to quit working). After multiple calls from myself and other members of my family staying here we were finally able to get the necessities needed to provide a somewhat comfortable stay for 6 adults and two small children. Every time we have reached out to the front desk they have responded to us extremely rudely and make us feel guilty for asking for any necessities (please avoid speaking with Chris or Edna, they are extremely rude and are apathetic to your needs). For the amount of money this place asks for, it is ABSOLUTELY not worth the hassle. Stay elsewhere. Great stay! Nice unit, friendly and attentive staff. As I checked in Erin at the front desk gave me easy instructions and directions on a map so I could quickly find my condo. Then she went the extra mile and recommended dining options and highlighted a map to trails and spots to see Moose. And we did get to see them! Also saw the best roads with fall colors, so grateful for the tips that made my visit unforgettable. The unit was cozy and had everything we needed, even a humidifier. Wonderful knowing that the Great Western folks cared about my experience so much and were available 24/7. Looking forward to staying with them again read more

We booked our trip to the Breckinridge area to meet our friends from the UK and do some sightseeing and skiing. We made our reservation at Great Western Lodging, using the HomeAway website. Unfortunately a week before our travel COVID-19 happened. Everything in the Breckinridge area, including skiing area, bars and restaurants were all closed. Not only was everything closed, but there was also a 14 day quarantine put in place for those traveling to the area. At that point we felt the decision to travel had been made for us. Given the extreme circumstances of a world wide pandemic, I thought the people at Great Western Lodging would most certainly give us a refund, if not at the very least a credit for a future visit. It's has been two weeks of calling and emailing and Great Western Lodging is refusing to refund any money or give any sort of credit for the future. Homeaway refunded what little they could and were extremely apologetic for the lack of professionalism on Great Western Lodgings part. We will return to Breckinridge but we will most certainly find people who actually care for the people who are choosing to stay with them. GWL took our money, left us with nothing in return, and will get compensation from the government for the situation. Even 1 star is too much. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and I encourage anyone going through this same thing so do the same. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. Closed the entire mountain and lodge due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however Great Western Lodge REFUSES to refund their customers. All other lodges we booked for our vacation refunded immediately, no questions asked. Great Western Lodge kept every penny, even the "cleaning fee" for a room I never even got to stay in. They do not answer their phones or respond to e-mails. Worst customer service of any business. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere. read more

My family booked accommodation with the Great Western Lodge for this weekend March 27th through April 3rd. With the crisis Breckenridge was closed and they were unable to provide us with the service and sent us a cancellation email. They then proceeded to set up answer service that does not allow anyone to speak to them. They have mentioned several times i.e. last week voicemail / on line (taken a picture) the word refunds. They have now offered credits. We DO NOT want a credit but rather our money back so that we can book a different vacation when the crisis is over. DO the RIGHT thing GREAT WESTERN LODGE, or you will create a movement of people who are angry and want satisfaction. We were even charged sales tax for a service we have not received and a State we have not been in. read more

Would never book with this place again... Things were a little sketchy to start with regarding their pricing practices. Advertise a sale starting on a certain date and make plans based off quoted prices but then after the sale starts notice that the math doesn't add up and find out they quote discounted rates all the time so you don't know what the real prices are to start with (easily). Think OK... still not too bad but should have heeded the red flags. Things are moving along towards Spring Break vacation and then the coronavirus hits and already see the inflexibility starting but will give them some benefit of the doubt since at that time the resorts weren't closed yet. And then find out that Vail Resorts closed all of their resorts and then to have the governor close the remaining ski resorts within 12 hours of that announcement to keep people away from the mountain towns, risk spreading of the virus, and to mitigate potential impact on the medical resources. This place then has the nerve to send a form letter that as a small business we're not going to issue refunds because the condo owners/home owners have entrusted them with their homes. Hotels, Airbnb, and other places are refunding reservations if made prior to 3/14 but this place is making no accommodations in light of this. Book direct or with a reputable vendor.... Normally I would support local but in this case stay far, far away..... As for the room we reserved can't say because we never went all the way up the mountain... Just an update... did end offering credit same unit, same price within the next year if you made a decision by end of April. Still no refunds if you couldn't make it work. Not the worse but still very bad considering circumstances. Still wouldn't recommend this place... read more

BEWARE!!! Our check in date was for March 14, the day that it was decided to shut down the mountain and lifts due to coronavirus. Me and wife are both physicians and our hospital was not prohibiting out-of-state travel at this time, but were not comfortable with us going. We called and explained our situation to GWL and were told that "Dude, since the mountain was still open, we are not doing refunds/credits" and furthermore accused us of making the statement about out-of-state travel up just to get out of our booking. So, we cleared it with work and went anyways against our better judgement so as not to be out of the money we had spent. We arrived that night around 5:45PM. They had announced the closure around 5:00PM that evening. The girl at the front desk rudely let us know that they weren't doing any refunds/credits at the time. So what other option did we have? We had been traveling across America since that morning and needed a place to rest our tired souls. We stayed a total of two nights, as we had to make arrangement to travel home which was an entirely different nightmare all in itself. GWL then sent out an email several days later stating that basically retroactive credits/refunds would be available for the the days that we had originally booked. Alright that's fair given everything that happened. They then dropped the "refund" portion from that statement and only said credits. Also okay. We went to rebook and they would only give us 3 nights and were going to charge us an additional $202.93. I explained to them the above scenario that we were told at check in no refunds/credits would be available and we had no other option. Still didn't matter. Never again. And for an honest review of the apartment, I'm sure it was really nice in the mid-90's. Nice view though. Bed slept like a concrete slab, if you're into that. I'm sure with all the rental properties Breckenridge has to offer, there is bound to be a better company to rent through than GWL. Safe Travels! read more

We scheduled this trip 5 months ago, and I counted down the days to it. Unfortunately when the Governor of CO issued the recommendation that people over the age of 60 cancel any travel to CO Ski areas, Great Western Lodgings failed to modify their cancellation policy at all. So despite months of planning for my 3 children to get to play in the snow with Grandpa, we decided to go without him... We checked the Breckenridge Ski Resort website daily for any "Covid 19" updates, and were reassured that they continued to advertise that they would be staying open. So we kept our reservations, and checked in Saturday afternoon after 14 hours of driving. Within 3 hours of our arrival Vail Resorts announced that they were all closing for the week BUT they would offer 100% reimbursements for their disappointed guests. Well needless to say, GWL did NOT follow suite. Not only did they fail to honor any refunds, not even PARTIAL refunds, for adhering the the GOVERNOR'S recommendation to stay home--they failed to offer any sort of recourse for guests now checked-in at Breckenridge with no access to the ski resort. I COMPLETELY understand that the owners/investors will be taking a hit as tourism drops amid Covid panic, but GWL could have AT LEAST provided more compassionate customer service over the phone--the three times I called I was disappointed not only by the lack of information they had (i.e. "ummm, we might be changing the cancellation policy but I'm not sure, we are supposed to talk about it, call back tomorrow?" was one call and, "Go online and make an inquiry because I have absolutely NO information or answers for you," was another response I got), but the clueless and snippy attitudes of the customer service agents was salt in an open wound. I get this is a crazy situation and it really sucks for everyone, not just me. But a little bit of courtesy could have gone a long way. If not considering refunds, then maybe GWL could have made an effort to compromise and discuss future discount? Or credit towards a future stay? We burned 3 THOUSAND dollars for a single night stay before packing up our 3 kids (all under 7) and making the 14 hour drive home. Shame on you GWL for your lack of preparedness, your lackluster customer service, and your inability to offer any sort of consolation to encourage repeat business. I have absolutely ZERO reason to ever renting through you again, and I WAS a repeat customer. Oh, but the condo was nice. I would have LOVED to stay there again in the future :( read more

We just got home today after staying at One Breckenridge Place Unit #2. We TOTALLY lucked into this place, only a 5-minute walk to the base of Peak 9!! They offered a Groupon last month, and I'm so glad I snagged it! Contrary to the review posted in 2011, Great Western Lodging was very up front that taxes and cleaning fees would be an additional cost. We arrived LATE on Saturday night, and the directions for late check-in were spot-on. They even left the lights on for us! This condo was stunning from the moment we walked in. Though the two bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs are a little cramped, everything was very clean, and we had PLENTY of sleeping space for all seven of us, and an attached garage, to boot! The kitchen/living area is very homey, with a gas fireplace, plenty of seating, and a private hot tub just outside the back door, with a beautiful view of Main Street. We managed to get three kids and three adults in it, but didn't want to risk over-flowing it with the fourth adult. They also offer a heated pool, but we never actually got around to using it. Great Western Lodging knows Customer Service! Offering extra towels, answering lots of questions, and a follow-up email to make sure we were enjoying our stay. A SCAM! Do NOT rent from this company. I had an agreement when I made reservations in April 2020 to stay at Odins Circle 33 for 6 nights and they just cancelled my reservation saying that the owner forgot to block out that week for his 80th birthday. I had rented this house for a great price and they cancelled and tried to put us in a condo that wasn't even close to being "comparable". This reeked of the ole "Bait and Switch"! They refused to issue a refund despite the closing of the resort. They said they knew they would get bad reviews. I just wanted to accommodate them. Our friends stayed in they same bldg through a different agent and already received their refund. As a former repeat customer, I will not use this company again. read more

We were due to stay with Great Western for a two week vacation travelling from the UK until the coronavirus shut down. We have been staying with them for over 10 years sometimes twice in a season always for 2-3 weeks at a time. In the beginning we liked the service they provided but in recent years with change of management have found the quality of their service lacking & unprofessional, the only reason we went back was because we like a particular unit although even that had its issues. Great Western are refusing to issue any refunds, only credits for the following year which for us coming from the UK may not even be possible as this pandemic is unlikely to get better straight away. Travel may still be restricted or people will just not want to travel & who are Great Western to say we have to vacation with them next year, we may have other plans. Great Western have taken our money for a service THEY have not provided. They say they are doing it to protect their small business to survive, aren't we all trying to survive at this time. $4,000 is what they have taken or feels like stolen from us with no apologies & no replies to emails. We will not be going back with Great Western, there are plenty of other lodging companies and we will look for one that will provide us with better treatment & customer care. My family has booked numerous trips with Great Western Lodging over the years, including an extended weekend trip just last month. Staff we've dealt with has always been top notch and courteous. We've stayed in many different units - typically near Main St in the summer months and in one of the ski-in/ski-out condos in the winter - and have found each of them exactly as described/pictured on the website. I highly recommend Great Western Lodging and hope to use them many more times in the future (because that would mean returning to Breck)! read more

Many issues with One Breckenridge 14 condo. Garage door did not work an, even though we called, was never repaired. Furniture is old, mattresses are old, carpet filthy and stained, dining room chair broken. Asked to speak to a manager--never got a call. Physically stopped in the Breck location--was told that they only handle reservations and could not help me--they would have someone call. Never did. RUN away from this business. read more

Great Western Lodging Vacation home rental agency I had reservations for Riverbend unit 102 in Breckenridge CO through VRBO and Great Western Lodging for March 18-23. The resort shut down due to COVID 19 and it was announced that ski lifts would not be operating and there was a health order to close all short term lodging. I then requested to receive a full refund. After two separate one hour holds and 2 case numbers, I was able to get VRBO to refund my service fee of $201. However, Great Western Lodging is refusing to refund my money and citing their cancellation policy as a reason why. It was apparent that the health order issued by Summit County in Colorado that no one was allowed to stay in the condos during my reservation time. They haven't answered their phones since 3/12/20 and don't reply to messages via VRBO, Yelp, Great Western Lodging website or email. On Monday 3/16 Great Western Lodging sent out a mass email that said they are still open and operating and no refunds will be provided. Summit County had issued a health mandate that all short term lodging units be vacated by 3/19 which was less than 24 hours after the check in time of our original 5 night stay. Weeks later, in an email, Great Western Lodging finally relented and offered lodging at a later date that must be booked by April 30th and travel must be between June 2020 and April 2021. Between the blackout dates and exceptions they weaved into this exchange, their offer is unconscionable. Every date I could possibly get off work is blacked out. Also, if I book and someone wants those dates before I travel, the condo goes to them and I get whatever trash no one wants. Not only is this unethical and bad business, it is borderline criminal. DO NOT BOOK! Great Western Lodging treats their customers terrible. They are offering zero refund due to COVID-19 cancellations. They are taking 100% of the reservation money with no explanation from the company themselves. They will not return emails. They will not answer the phone. Terrible company. Can't believe they can live with themselves knowing they are keeping ALL of the money so many customers trusted them with. read more
