Bland Kung Pao Chicken
Kari B.

Overall disappointing...I gave two stars because they were friendly. It all started with the crab rangoons. They were not fried long enough, so they were still a bit mushy but oddly the filling was starting to ooze out of them. That brings me to the filling; way too sweet for my taste. Next to the entrees: we ordered spicy beef, king pao chicken and pepper steak. Everything was really bland and all tasted the same. The pepper steak had hardly any steak in it and what was in there tasted kind of strange. I guess the search continues for a decent Chinese carry out place out here in the burbs.

Your basic carry out Chinese Restaurant that doesn't stand out. Plus side is that my order only took 10 minutes after walk-in and placing an order. Other than that this location isn't a bad location to patronize on a regular basis

Just picked up two Hunan dishes to go. Came home and found a piece of a sponge in the chicken dish. YUCK!

Sze Chuan Restaurant - Vegetable eggroll

I should have eaten at Sze Chuan ages ago. I was told it was amazing. I even lived very near to it…read morein the past. It's been on my list, but I didn't go. That was an error. The restaurant is in a tucked away strip mall and is modest in size and decor. The strip mall also contains hidden treasures like a Chinese bakery/BBQ and an Asian store. We went early on a Saturday evening with friends. The service was excellent, although with some staff there were language hurdles. No matter - everyone made it work and we were left with an abundance of amazing food at a reasonable price. Wine and beers are served, as well as smoothies and other non-alcoholic drinks. BF ordered crab rangoon as a starter, which was good. He liked it more than I did, but it was nice and crispy. I just didn't think it compared to other dishes. My vegetable egg roll was very good as well, but nothing terribly unique. He went bold on the entree and ordered the pork intestine and blood cake dish. He really enjoyed it and said it was quite spicy. The portions are generous and he did bring a lot home. I ordered the homestyle tofu, which normally has pork. I got it without to make it vegetarian friendly. The textures were very good and the sauce was intensely flavorful, but mild. I also ordered a supplementary dish of braised mushrooms and Shanghai greens. Everyone at the table enjoyed this dish, particularly the greens, which are a variety of bok choy, called pac choy. The mushrooms were wonderful, with the texture of wood ears. I also had plenty of leftovers to eat the next day. Our friends ordered the Szechuan spicy pork dumplings and they got rave reviews. My cousin did say they were not overly spicy. She went on to order the sizzling black pepper beef, which she said was good, but not nearly as unique or deeply flavored as the other dishes. Her husband ordered the pork intestine with clear noodles, which he enjoyed but said was extremely spicy. He did leave a lot of sauce behind since it was so hot. He also had the ox tendon and maw in spicy sauce, which came with chopped peanuts on top. He seemed really pleased with that dish. We agreed that we would happily go back to explore the menu more. Everything was excellent and I thought the prices were generally quite reasonable, especially for the quantity of food. I do wish the menu had more descriptive text, so I could familiarize myself with the dishes. The choices are many and overwhelming and the menu is huge. I'd also love to see a symbol for vegetarian options since it's very hard to know otherwise and many of the vegetable dishes included pork or other meat. As we left the restaurant was getting increasingly busy with people waiting by the door for seats. This is a popular place for good reason.

Sze Chuan is still one of my top 3 favorite Chinese restaurants in the Milwaukee area. It seems…read morethey are always busy, but the staff also does a good job getting guests seated, managing the wait list, getting food served and tables turned without rushing the guests. The Spicy Pork Dumplings have become my go-to appetizer, and the fried spring rolls are also very good. On a most recent visit, we ordered hot pot. Our server brought us the sheet to make our selections. You can choose from mild broth, spicy broth, or half tray of each. The spicy is pretty hot with lots of red chili peppers soaking in it, so I scooped out the chili peppers to keep rhe flavor but lessen the impact on my palate. For 2 guests, I recommend choosing 3 items from the list, maybe 2 protein and one veggie or 2 veggie and one protein to start. You can order more if you finish and need more. This is in addition to the two appetizers you will choose, which is included with rhe hot pot dinner. It's a great value! Sze Chuan remains on my short list of go-to's for Chinese dining, and I look forward to my next visit, whenever that may be.

Sze Chuan Restaurant - HOT POT!! It's fun, you dunk the meats into the broth. If you like it spicy the hot side has some zing!!

The staff was a bit hard to understand and when I explained we were first timers, she slowed down her speaking a bit and that helped. Be prepared to order you full meal right away as they then prepare the ingredients in the kitchen for preparation at the table. It appears to be traditional to be entertained by the chef, which we did expect, however I was not prepared to have a broccoli launched at me without warning. We each were hit in the face which was not a lot of fun. Maybe we could be asked first next time? I know many people enjoy this but we were in the middle of a conversation when the food started flying. Kids will love this! The food was prepared wonderfully well. A medium rare steak was perfect as was the medium one requested. A quick and efficient prep was impressive and there was a large amount of food on our plates before long. They have a happy hour that is really reasonable, M-Th 4:30-6:00. We will also be back to take advantage of that option. You can choose to sit in the traditional dining room or the hibachi area. We really enjoyed the hibachi option just for the pleasure of watching our food being prepared well in front of us. Plenty of parking in this relatively innocuous building near the mini-golf place. But it is worth a visit. The food is worth the reasonable prices.

I'm very surprised this place is in business at this time. Came in and no customers inside which…read moreshould have giving me red flags right away. Floors and restaurant seemed dirty. Looked under our table We ordered beef rolls, pork soup dumplings, bbq pork Bao buns. They asked if we wanted "special soup" - which tasted like watered down chicken noodle soup with small pork wontons. The beef rolls came out and i was shocked to see a cold flour tortilla, lettuce and beef rolled up like a taco. This is no where near a beef roll and was informed they do it differently. They kindly removed it from our bill. The bbq pork buns tasted like they were heated up from being frozen and had an overly sweet flavor. dumplings came out very fast which makes me think they were just heated up in the microwave or something. We were in and out in about 30 minutes:/

Their sign out front says dumpling house and their menu still says Yamato sushi house. Identity crisis, no? We went in thinking this was dumpling house so we ordered dumplings. I was craving some soup, dumplings, and shrimp hao gaos. At around 13 bucks each, they were quite good. And just because I don't quite feel full with having just dumplings for dinner, we also ordered their fried rice noodles. The pictures really don't do justice for this amazing dish. They don't have fried rice on their menu, but this noodle dish tasted just like fried rice And smelled like it too. Hubby and I were really pleasantly surprised. We added a chicken to the dish, but if coming back, I will stay with just a noodles without adding protein. Our server who was Chinese, spoke very fast, and I had a hard time understanding everything he was trying to explain. But he was very eager, very nice, and very excited about us trying different foods. As it was Chinese New Year's week when we went in, he told us to try their special New Year's soup and that he was really really good. In fact, he was saying this to everyone who came in. The soup was about $13, but not big like a bowl of pho. It came in the medium size bowl, clear broth, with a bunch of mini dumplings inside. It's really not something that I would normally order, especially after ordering two orders of dumplings, but I must say the taste was pretty good. Would I have it again? I will have to remember not to get pushed over by the nice enthusiastic server. Since we didn't know, this was a sushi place going in. I had no sushi and don't necessarily think I will. I hope they figure out their identity and stick to one thing. So far, I am happy with their dumplings and their fried rice noodle.
