This is an update to my November review, after I've had an independent review of the school's…read moreevaluation/programming and after my son's one completed year at the placement. He is now elsewhere. I think this school may be a reasonable fit for a narrow group of children, those whose primary disability genuinely is emotional and behavioral regulation, where the behavior itself is the core need rather than a symptom of something else. For a child like that, a program built around behavior and emotional support with modest academic demands is appropriately matched, because there is no underlying learning disability being missed and no cause-and-effect being inverted. Where it falls short is with a different kind of child, one whose behavior is the signal of an unaddressed learning disability rather than the disability itself. A bright, verbal child can have a significant learning disability in reading and writing, hit a wall on all-day academic demands they can't access, and become dysregulated as a result. A program that reads the dysregulation as the primary problem, and builds around managing behavior while leaving the academic disability unidentified and untaught, attempts to treat the symptom and misses the cause. This can result in inappropriately deferring the learning question until "frustration tolerance" improves. But the frustration is being produced by the unmet learning need; the disability is driving the behavior, not the reverse. What concerned me most was the evaluation itself. A full reevaluation can produce the very scores that show a clear reading and writing disability (very low decoding and written-expression results, difficulty blending simple words) and still decline to identify it, attributing the low performance to behavior instead. From a parent's perspective, that reads as an outcome shaped to fit what the program is equipped to handle, with the inconvenient data set aside. When a complete evaluation has the evidence in hand, reads past it, and lands on the conclusion that happens to match the program rather than the child, the practical result is a child whose real needs go unaddressed and whose difficulties get worse rather than better. For families whose children fit that second profile, I'd urge you to read your own evaluation data closely and get an independent set of eyes on it.

I plead and begged them the entire school year to please move him to another classroom. It took until the end of the school year and my son having a mental break down and having to admitted into a hospital for them to take it more seriously! Once he was discharged from the hospital, they finally listen to me and placed him another classroom, where he can be safe and happy coming to school. Moreover, this most recent school, I thought that things had improved. But unfortunately I found out that my son had water bottles thrown at his head and water dumped on him. He was also punched in the face with a visible mark and absolutely no one informed me that my son had been assaulted! They then even retaliated and sent me an email how my son was punching a teddy bear the week prior. It was highly unsettling that instead of acknowledging that they have failed him in this regard and instead of them coming up with a plan to stop the bullying, they decide to flip it on us instead. I'm sorry, but I would much rather my son take his frustration out on a teddy bear, rather then punching anyone in the face. This school is disgraceful. They have taught my child absolutely nothing in the 4 years he has been there. Do not send your child here if you want them to get an actual education. There are better options available for girls looking for either a private or parochial Catholic education. It is simply not worth the money for a variety of reasons. Academically, there is little to no accountability in the middle school. The science program has been deficient for a number of years, with students needing to self-teach based on YouTube videos. Languages last year moved to students teaching themselves with Rosetta Stone. The level of academic rigor for many of the other subjects is simply not there compared to other available options, including many of the parochial schools that surround Villa, and the girls are simply not being prepared for the rigor and accountability of high school. There are no end of year academic awards, so there is really no reason for the girls to try hard to achieve in the classroom. Athletically, the school has gone downhill from where it was years ago. Parent coaches with no oversight or training who use it as a forum to showcase their own daughters and friends rather than try to develop the girls and create winning programs are the norm. The school also does not allow any players to participate in diocesan all-star games where the truly talented girls can be exposed to a better level of competition. Partnerships with the local boys' schools like Malvern and Devon do not exist for things like the plays and service projects. It has been made very clear for the girls participating in Malvern plays that it is not considered a Villa-sponsored activity and there is no acknowledgement of it. Again, this was not always the case but appears to be something new in the past few years. Achievement at Villa is neither encouraged nor rewarded - a missed opportunity to create an environment where girls build each other up and celebrate each other's talents and strengths. The exact opposite environment exists at Villa. We were close to pulling our daughter last year but decided to let her finish her time and focus on high school selection rather than transfer her to another school. It is a pity because I've heard that, at one time, people thought very highly of this school, but in speaking with current parents, there is a definite sense of unhappiness and negativity rather than community within these walls.

They refuse to modify any of the coursework, that is all regular work, for Special Needs population that are placed in regular classrooms. They accept IEP's, but don't follow them, because they don't have proper supports nor graduate on IEP goals. They don't listen to the parent's concerns, they just want to do what they want to move the child forward to their standards in their biased views. This is not an acceptable school for any Special Needs child, no support from teachers or administration.
