They have amazing staff, a wonderful director, and a clean school. For parents there are lot's of ways to get involved so you feel like you are part of the school which is a community. There is an amazing indoor playground downstairs so even if it's raining the kids can burn off energy indoors. They also have a wonderful Nature Discovery Center outside where they grow pumpkins and play in a cute little house. The children learn to garden, and how to process honey. They learn academics and practical life. The teachers taught us how to nurture his inquisitive mind and properly support his needs. We couldn't have potty-trained him without their guidance. My son is now 4 and has flourished into such an independent, social, and happy little boy. He comes home, hangs up his own clothes, puts away his shoes, sets the table, and helps with laundry and dishes. They taught us how to most effectively deal with the very few times he had tantrums at home. He wakes up in the morning, picks out his own outfit for the day, brushes his own teeth, prepares his own breakfast (banana or pre-cut fruit from the fridge), asks questions about why the world works, can sit and play independently for hours, and will come to me and tell me, "Mommy, I need a hug." "I need some attention." "I need your help in ____, ___, ___" whenever his needs aren't met. Mixed-age classrooms were also incredibly helpful at this developmental age. The older kids teach the younger ones how to become more independent, and now that my son is one of the older children; he has been so patient with the younger kids and babies, teaching them what he was taught. If I could give this school 10 stars, I would!

I have been at Berwyn Montessori for over 10 years with two children attending. Before coming to…read moreBerwyn I looked at 17 alternatives and sat in the classrooms of all of them for an extended period prior to selecting Berwyn Montessori. My experience is that Mrs. Shultz is the ultimate caregiver and her team are exceptional. They taught my children how to approach life, how to learn, and always ensured their safety. My first child had ADHD challenges and was dyslexic and brilliant (145 IQ), my second child was legally blind. Both are doing incredible in school and life due to Berwyn. They learned math, reading, writing, social studies, biology, and cursive, and advanced in social skills and manners beyond their peers. Each did better throughout grade school because of the foundation this institution provided. I can truly say neither child would be as successful as they are today without the care and guidance she provided. They celebrate and respect the cultural differences between families (mine is Hispanic) and learn the customs of Chinese New Year, Divalli and Yom Kippur. My 16-year-old still reaches out to her for direction and advice. My 11-year-old still asks to go to her summer camp over other potentially more exciting camp options. The children design and pick their graduation performances (speeches, songs, and dances) themselves and learn to speak in front of others and express their individuality and their views. They make their own pinatas and cakes for all of the parties. We have attended every graduation since 2009 except one and all were safe, fun, family activities. Mrs. Schultz has always put our family first, has never shown any political bias to our kids, and brings the kind of experience of child development that you cannot find in any of the big-box institutions. Her safety so far exceeds the standard and your child will be a well-behaved, self-aware, deeply educated member of our society. You will not find this elsewhere.
