Came here a few weeks ago looking for fried dumplings and pork buns. We were here later, so they were out of pork buns (though it's nice to know they're made daily) so we got dumplings. They were really good. My main complaint for other places is usually that the meat isn't well seasoned in the dumpling- such was not the case here. And they were served so hot that they melted part of the styrofoam plate. Will be back! read more

Is this one the same as the one in Chinatown? I have no idea, but is it better? I certainly think so. First off there is a sitting area, second I THINK there menu is bigger. I braved blasts of wind that made it feel like it was 5 degrees out to get to this place, and it was totally worth it! My kids loved the fried pork buns and the oxtail noodle soup, which had a unique flavor, some sort of exotic herbal taste that I couldn't quite put my finger on. We also enjoyed the dumplings and the sesame pancake (a flatbread, not really a pancake at all). I definitely want to go back here again. Ordered take out from them one lazy night in Brooklyn. We ordered the sampler with 8 pieces and the shrimp one. I like them because i can tell the skin was handmade and the filling was fresh. But they are not that crispy and a little more chewy. Not bad overall. I don't know if I would eat there again but I am interested in the beet/goat cheese dumpling (they were out of them) next time. read more

I LOVE the dumplings at this place. Some people wrote that they have thick dough, but I don't think so at all. The second picture is more accurate. They are absolutely delicious and INSANELY cheap with big chunks of pork and scallions that have melted my hunger away many a time. Also, you can buy a bag of their dumplings frozen - 50 dumplings for $9!! You will be so very happy you did. Forewarning though, in case you're in a rush - they're fresh, so you have to wait a little bit sometimes. Well worth it, though. I promise. read more

This place has bottles of suspiciously-watery hot sauce and soy sauce on the tables and requires payment in advance. The dumplings and sesame pancake seem to be about the same as in most dumpling shops. The hot and sour soup is good though heavy on MSG. read more

My mother just loves this place. Every time we passed there she would always say I'm craving some dumplings! Even though I'm not a fan of dumplings it's funny seeing her eat them in less than 10 minutes. If she wasn't so busy we would definitely be there every weekend. Been going to Great Taste Dumpling since I moved into the 'hood late last year and it's not exactly a well-kept secret. They sell 5 fried pork and chive dumplings for $1-- you read that right. In fact, everything on the menu is ridiculously cheap like that. Sadly, the menu isn't very expansive, but it makes coming to a decision that much easier. *The pros: It's open early and closes late, 7 days a week. It was even open on the chinese new year. The food is decent. Not decadent, and maybe even a bit on the greasy side (depending on what you get), but it works in a pinch when you're strapped for cash, need to leave for work and realize you haven't gotten around to eating yet. When there's no line, the guy is on the ball and has stuff ready, you can walk in and out of there with your order in about 90 seconds flat. They have 4 pork buns for $1, and they're huge. Noodles and gravy, mungbean porridge, all under $2. The soups are really good, and range in price from $2.50 to $5. Especially the pork and bok choy dumpling soup which is easily the best thing on the menu. It's an entire quart with tons of vegetable and 8 large dumplings in there for $2.50. I'm not kidding. This monster can feed 2 people, or 3 really skinny kids. *The cons: EVERYBODY knows about this place, and it's the cheapest place around with an A rating, so it's always super crowded, especially in the evening. Sometimes the line goes out the door and the guy is a bit overwhemled. His grasp on the english language leaves a lot to be desired so keep your order simple and direct. They do their best to keep the place clean but lots of people means lots of groups, drunks and kids. People can be disgusting and often don't clean up after themselves so there might be lingering garbage and sauce residue on the tables. I've only ever seen two people working there ever, and it's hard to keep up with all the traffic. Everything is super no-frills. You get plastic forks, paper plates and cheap napkins. It's the price you pay for cheap food. Frankly, it's not that big of a deal. But when it's super busy, the quality of the food may suffer. One of my favorite things there used to be the beef noodle soup for $3.50. A whole quart of sliced beef, mushroom, ginger and lo mein noodles in a delicious savory broth. But I got some recently and it wasn't the same. He left out the mushrooms and ginger, plus the beef was mostly gristle. I was not pleased. It was still edible, but not good. Meh. All in all, not a bad place to visit, but going there too often will make you very fat and very sick of hipsters. read more

if you knew me, you would know that i would eat human feces if someone put it on special, five dingleberries for a $1. i am tragically cheap and greedy as well as imminently poor and needy so five somethings...anythings...for one dollar tend to draw me in, then spit themselves out. in other words, i wind up paying a lot more for them later, in a smelly water closet of my own. while prosperity doesn't serve the best fried pork [and chive] dumplings, they are serviceable, as in edible and digestible. but the clincher is that this sunset park outlet serves a bursting, fragrant steamed (dare I say soup-like) dumpling that packs a wallop while leaving the wallet packed and the colon in tact. five fried are $1, ten steamed are $2.50. splurge for the ten if you can swing it. read more

This place didn't look very appealing on the outside, but yelp said otherwise so I decided to give it a go. I had the veggie sesame bread and the pork dumplings. The sesame bread was seasoned with simply some soy sauce and cilantro and the bread was crispy yet moist and melted in your mouth. The dumplings tasted close to what my mom makes. This little Chinese spot is just okay though the price is good. I would've given 1 more star but the owner is extremely unpleasant. I've witness him treating some of his customers terribly. I was just there yesterday, as I was waiting for my order, a young man who had just gotten his order politely asked if he can have one more packet of soy sauce. The owner was surprisingly rude and refused to give him one more packet. The owner is so cheap and stingy that he waters down his sauces (especially the Sriracha) with water, most shop owner water them down with vinegar. I really just had it and won't be coming back here after seeing how he talked and treated an elderly grandma who tried to order soup. I was so angry I couldn't finish what I wanted to say to him regarding the grandma. Seriously, what's your business without customers? read more
