HARVEST WRAP
Caryn K.

OMG! I love this restaurant and I really wish I lived here, so that I could come visit regularly. As a human being with a dairy allergy, vegan restaurants are the one place I don't have to worry about cross contamination or a forgotten modification to my meal. Great Sage has a well rounded menu, with options to satisfy every palette. I ordered a side order of the vegan Mac and cheese (an absolute requirement in my opinion), the chana masala, and the harvest wrap. I would order each of these dishes again, but I will have to venture to try the pierogi quesadilla, crab cakes and portabella-bulgogi bowl first. The mac and cheese was exceptionally cheesy and creamy, with a perfectly crisp crumb topping. They have a full size serving of this, but despite how great it was, I would highly recommend ordering it as a side item as it is filling, and then ordering an entre as well. The chana masala had a wonderful flavor to it, with the chickpeas cooked perfectly! As for the harvest wrap, I was in heaven! The wrap was toasted just right and all the ingredients were the same temp. I found the sweet potato to be the perfect texture and it paired well with the beets, caramelized onion and chipotle-cashew Gouda. They had a wonderful drink menu as well, however, I did not order a drink this visit. There is a 99% chance I will at my next visit though. The inside was clean and well maintained, while the outside had plenty of parking. The service was quick and knowledgeable of the menu. I will definitely be back! If you made it this far in my reviews, you should absolutely check out Great Sage! You will not be disappointed!

4.5 Solid food. Reminded me of old school vegan spots before they started trying to cater to non vegans if that makes sense. Portions are great food, was healthy and well balanced. Server was really sweet and attentive. -.5 for the sticky floor/sound everytime I walked

Spinach and Artichoke spread with Crostinis

My family is like many others. One is gluten free, others are attempting a more plant based diet and others are just plain meat eaters...The meat eaters never missed their preference, a nice sign of success. Venue is cozy, clean and bright with a welcoming decor. Parking is easy and abundant. Great for families or friends to gather and the staff was attentive and friendly. Starters: *** Buffalo Bites- cauliflower florets tossed in a Buffalo sauce and dipped in batter and baked. The 2 dipping sauces went well with this dish. **** Artichoke dip- a creamy spinach and artichoke spread with melted Parmesan. There's never enough crostinis which were nicely toasted. Drinks **** Wild Bay Kombucha- daughter enjoyed this drink. **** Magic Mushroom Maca Latte, very pleased with this drink. There were fine earthy notes with no aftertaste and not overly sweet. *** Other daughter had a ginger flavored tea which she enjoyed Entrees **** Crab cake sandwich and Crab cake platter with hearts of palm did not disappoint and my one meat eater said it was good! **** Adult Mac n Cheese was quite tasty. There were nice chunks of broccoli with the rigatoni and cannellini beans, bits of sundried tomatoes in a velvety cheese sauce. The topping was a nice blend of rosemary bread crumbs and truffle oil. **** Portobella Bulgogi Bowl was full of flavor. The mushrooms were grilled in a bulgogi marinade all mixed well with the vegetables. *** Organic Chili- husband enjoyed. Desserts **** Carrot Cake which was nice and moist with a delicious smooth cream cheese like frosting **** Chocolate Lava Cake was the top hit for everyone. The chocolate cake was smooth and melt in your mouth delicious with a hot fudge (that was nut, soy and wheat free) drizzled over a coconut ice cream. So yummy and a nice ending to an enjoyable lunch out with the family. If you are vegan, this is the place to come. If you are just looking for a decent well prepared menu of healthy options this will not disappoint.

I hadn't visited The Great Sage is over 10 years, and it still doesn't miss! Since it had been a while, we opted for the Ultimate nachos and Artichoke spinach dip to start. As a nut allergy girlie, they kindly removed the cashew cheese that honestly would have put a on top of the dip but it was tasty nonetheless. The crab cake consistency was one of a pulled crab cake meat kind of action - a bit too tangy for me, so soaking the hearts of palm a bit longer would have helped. I LOVED the remoulade and pretzel bun, yum! The Nachos speak for themselves, 11/10! Service was accommodating for us to sit in the sunlight, and ambiance was just as I remembered, timeless and homely :).

I love finding spots for foodies like me, and Great Sage is one of them! The restaurant serves vegan food, but don't let that deter you; we all eat Thai, and most of us aren't Thai. Go because the food is very good. You also go to experience how a chef and baker create delicacies, while confining themselves to plant-based ingredients. They do this well and deserve your business. The service is attentive and friendly, the decor is warm and welcoming. We had a gluten-free carrot cake that was great, though we could have shared a bowl of the wonderful frosting. Great beverage menu as well. Stop reading this and get in your car already.

Great meal and great service by Amy. Everything was great - I tried a "crab cake" with the ceased salad...really delicious. The table shared the warm cinnamon roll with a "cream cheese" frosting.

Adult Mac & ' Cheese '

I'm in awe of this "adult" mac & cheese. Wow wow wow! It doesn't get much better than. Upon first bite I thought "this is pretty good -- solid" and then as I kept eating it just continued to taste even better. Creamy, rich, and tasty. Exactly what I want in mac & cheese (which is my absolute favorite food, btw). If I'm nitpicking, I wish the broccoli were cut smaller so I didn't have to cut it, but who gives a flip when it tastes this good?! The service is good -- I was greeted by the owner and my waitress was very pleasant. Food came out quickly after ordering and was piping hot! It's a pretty big space with a good number of tables. I'll be very happy to come back the next time I'm in town!

ARTICHOKE SPINACH DIP

The food a was good if you are really looking for straight vegan food. I recommend keeping it raw and simple. Wasn't crazy about anything I order. The crab cake was too sweet and the Mac and cheese was extremely oily. The spinach artichoke was delicious and filling. The service was excellent and they have plenty seating inside and out. The bar is fully stocked and they have great raw juice options. They even have live music some days.

I need help understanding the hype of this place. It was a front-runner in the DMV's organic green/vegan cuisine. Other than that, I wasn't a fan. I ordered their famous Crab Cake Platter.. made with hearts of palm crab cake on a bed of roasted asparagus and a succotash composed of lima beans, roasted corn, caramelized onion, red pepper, and grape tomatoes. Topped with Old Bay remoulade and microgreens. (Wheat, soy, and nut free) The meal has no flavor. The succotash is good, but that's not saying much. The crab cake needs seasoning: garlic, old bay, or something that tastes beside the remoulade. In a complete meal, each component should be seasoned well. I ordered the adult mac & cheese, and that was pretty decent. It consists of baked casserole with rigatoni, broccoli, cannellini beans, pepperoncini, spinach, and sundried tomatoes in a velvety cheese sauce, topped with Daiya mozzarella, rosemary bread crumbs, and truffle oil. I would order again. I washed the meal down with white sangria with A house blend of white wines, berries, peaches, and citrus.

Ask the Community - Great Sage

Someone told me Great Sage was vegan but is the cheese mentioned dairy cheese? I do see "vegetarian" on the description as well so I think the answer is yes but just confirming! Thanks in advance!

Hi! Everything we serve is 100% Vegan, there was not an option to identify as a vegan restaurant through Yelp so we likely had to choose vegetarian. We decided to stop putting things in quotes as well and just put in other places that we are 100%…

I ordered the following items on Uber Eats: - Curry Puffs - Vegan Nuggets - Salt & Pepper Tofu - Black Pepper Ban Mein w/ Thick Noodles The portion sizes for the main dishes (Salt & Pepper Tofu and Ban Mein) were generous, about 2-3 servings and shareable. Which is pretty amazing considering the Ban Mein was $10 (on Uber Eats). I made sure to try a mix of dishes that both featured and didn't include meat substitutes...I was WOW'd by all of the food! As a meat eater, the vegan beef in the Ban Mein was very well seasoned and the flavor indiscernible from real meat. I was especially shocked by how much I enjoyed the vegan nuggets. They had a slightly nutty flavor (likely due to the oil) and a great texture. The salt & pepper tofu and curry puffs were standard, but good. Overall, the food at this restaurant runs a little spicier than usual American Chinese spots. Flavors like curry and five spice came through more, and two of the dishes I ordered used fresh peppers (instead of just pepper flakes). I loved it and will be ordering again!

Better if potatoes were diced then it's similar to a samosa. Have ordered Thai green curry in the past and I love that. Green beans are good as well. Every thing is served in take out boxes and they have seating if you want to eat there. While I'm not a fan of that they use paper containers and most likely compostable and I probably should find out. Happy we have this restaurant in the DMV.
