This is a common, straightforward step for veterans working through the VA disability process. Unfortunately, my experience with the office was extremely disappointing. The front desk staff spoke to me in a rude and dismissive tone from the beginning. I explained multiple times that I did not need another diagnosis--I already had one from the VA--and only needed a medical agreement or disagreement with the IMO. The secretary insisted the doctor "wouldn't do anything unless he could bill the VA and give his own diagnosis," completely ignoring what I actually needed and showing no willingness to help. Veterans already face enough hurdles in the disability process. Finding a doctor who is willing to provide a simple professional opinion shouldn't be this difficult. The lack of courtesy and the refusal to assist unless they could bill for additional services was unprofessional and disheartening. I would not recommend this office to any veteran needing support with VA-related documentation or respectful, patient-centered care.

Took lots of time with me to listen and understand my problems, did X-rays, reviewed all my medical documentation, determined that the cause of my pain is the IM rod in my tibia, was able to give me a detailed and logical explanation for why he could not do surgery to remove the rod, and gave me suggestions for how to manage the pain given that surgery was not an option. Dr. Ferro just acted like that's impossible because I have the stimulator. He had me get an x-ray and said that the problem is my hip, not my spine. They then set me up with an Orthopedic Surgeon (according to them, the best Ortho Surgeon in the State. The Ortho Surgeon look at the x-rays and took his own and examined me. He told me that their is nothing wrong with my hip and that the problem is my lumbar spine. (this was my issue for getting the spinal neurostimulator in the first place) I called back to Dr. Ferro's office and left a message and waited for a return call. (this is the only way to get in contact with them) I said "The Orthopedic Surgeon says that my hip is fine and that my lumbar spine is the problem" 2 weeks later I called again and left another message just saying I haven't heard back from the first. 3 days layer I get a call back from one of Ferro's office staff. She said "Dr. Ferro said to tell you that you need to find a surgeon" I then asked For what, my back? Or my hip?" She just hung up. After that they would not return my calls. I even stopped in and they were too busy to talk to me.. Left me hanging after I had been a patient for around 10 years. From my experience and the experiences from others Dr. Ferro is really big on a spinal stimulator being the magic cure all. And once he puts it in your problems are gone and he is done with you. The only way to get ahold of Ferro is to call and leave a message to get a call back. It's been like this even before my ordeal. Many times I would have to call repeatedly over a couple weeks before someone would call back. One time the staff person who called said that she had been trying to call me back for a week and couldn't get an answer. Well: #1. You reached me so I know you are calling the right number. #2. You can't lie about that anymore. When you call a cell phone, whether you get an answer or not the phone records the number that called. In that time period I had plenty of calls, but none from them. #3. Even if I didn't answer not only is the number recorded, but it also goes to voice mail where you can leave a message. I had none. So, since cell phones were invented you can't get away with the "I have been trying to reach you excuse". Also, be aware that once you get a spinal stimulator implant you can no longer have an MRI done. Dr. Ferro told me that it not a problem because he can tell as much from an x-ray or CT scan as an MRI. Wrong, I am slowly losing the use of my right leg.. I am about to have my spinal stimulator removed as I have a serious problem now that 8 Doctors and Surgeons have told me they can't properly diagnose me and won't even try surgery without MRI images. I even called down to the Cleveland Clinic and they told me "Don't even bother making the trip down to them if I can't have an MRI done.

Privacy is optional, as treatment plans and financial details are discussed openly, out loud, in front of everyone. They enthusiastically push services your insurance won't cover and that you don't need, and your total bill can swing hundreds to thousands of dollars with no clear or timely explanation. Personally, I was quoted a multitude of different costs across the same visits, sent a request to pay more than I owed, and was told I "wasn't allowed to leave without paying" despite no one being able (or willing) to provide an itemized ledger. After endless back-and-forth with multiple receptionists and the manager, I still do not have a clear breakdown of current charges and am waiting for them to get back to me. There was a lady there and when I asked a question she said "we're closed" I went to cafeteria where I got a coffee with the french vanilla creamers and it was horrible. Later, about 6 I though I would grab something to eat as my husband was still in surgery. Nope, the gate is down and the cafeteria is closed. If I was disappointed at not getting a cup of coffee and a bite to eat, I can only imagine what the people that work there in the afternoon/overnight feel like, or the families that are there with their loved ones into the night. The staff on the 2nd floor were really great though and I am grateful for that. Please do better on the amenities for the people who are there for medical reasons or that just work there.

Last year I went septic with a dental infection and was in the ICU for four days. I spent a total of 16 days in the hospital. The pain is causing me to lose sleep, which feels like mania. I have bipolar disorder. If I have an extended session of mania, it leads to psychosis. I see a paychiatrist regularly and I actually saw her in the morning, but there is a paperwork issue and the meds she requested for me will not be filled to Tuesday. I know the ER is not a dentist or my psychiatrist, but I felt like I was in crisis so I went. I was hoping for antibiotics for the dental infection and maybe a bridge prescription of a couple of my psyxh meds to get me through until Tuesday. Instead I was summarily dismissed by Dr. Chad Kovala. "I'm not a dentist and your psychiatrist is treating you. I can't help you." It didn't matter that I went septic last year from the same issue. Apparently my inpatient psych history doesn't matter either. I was so distraught by his dismissal of me that I called the suicide helpline when I got to my car. I have the screenshot. I was on the phone with them for 30 minutes before I felt safe to drive home. I have never before been dismissed with such a smug and superior attitude. Yes, I know a dentist is the ultimate solution for my tooth issue and a psychiatrist needs to do long-term med adjustments but I was in CRISIS. My teeth are IN MY MOUTH AND THEY AFFECT MY HEALTH. I am terrified of ever utilizing your ER again. Hospitals are supposed to care for sick people. Period. You didn't. Do better.
