This is the second physical therapy facility I have been sent to for the same injury. They performed their own assessment of my injuries before receiving what the referring doctor felt the issue was. Wertz physical therapy helped me when no one else could/would. They treated me with respect and dignity. Even though my masses kept spending, they helped me take back my life. First we started slow, I had no idea what to expect. When one of Nate's patients said in her review, "This kind of care and impeccable service is extremely rare", she took the words right out of my mouth. Before deciding on a physical therapist to help me recover from meniscal surgery, I reviewed the Wertz Orthopedic website and found it so personal, so informative, and so caring and inviting that I had no hesitation calling for an appointment. And with that first phone call, Shelly made me feel like I was already being cared for and I hadn't yet set foot in the clinic. Everything about my first visit (and all my subsequent visits) to Wertz Orthopedic has been astonishing in the "care and impeccable service" I've received. Nate is so knowledgeable, so deeply caring, so skilled, and so thoroughly interested in his patients' healing and well being that, in my experience, he is unsurpassed in his field. More than that, Nate, Michael, and Shelly have a way of making you feel like you're part of a family. You know intuitively from your first appointment that you will never be let down. When you are in pain, the most important thing in the world is to be listened to, heard, believed, and understood. This is always Nate's and Michael's starting point and why (from my own experience and from my observation over several months) their patients experience not only healing, but a greater sense of well-being. The smallness of the clinic is an asset and adds to the feeling of comfort and care. And yet the clinic also feels private, airy, roomy, impeccably clean and tidy, safe, professional, and relaxed all at the same time. There are private rooms for your initial visit, and with only two beds and two therapists in the main area, when you are there for your appointment, you are always the complete focus and never, ever made to feel like 'just another body in a long line of appointments'. Nate, Michael, and Shelly get to know all their patients as "people" as well as "patients", not only because it helps them adjust the treatment to the whole person and his/her lifestyle, but because they care. Although every moment of my therapy with Nate was astonishing in its helpfulness and curative effect, three experiences made me want to canonize him as a saint: Once, when something had caused the healing arthroscopic incisions in my knee to suddenly swell and become somewhat tender, he (I still can't believe this and yet I saw it with my own eyes) was able to massage the swelling down right there during my appointment. Within another day it was gone. Another time, a day after my appointment and on a weekend right before we were to fly to California, I developed a brand new severe pain in my calf that made it nearly impossible to stand or walk, like a cramp, but not a cramp. I called him and left a message. He responded within a VERY short time and not only talked me through some simple home remedies, but offered to see me over the weekend if it didn't get better. He even checked in with me via text during our trip to make sure I was doing ok. And, finally, when I was feeling frustrated about how to explain some of my continuing arthritic pain to my surgeon at an upcoming followup appointment, he offered to call the surgeon's office and explain his own observations prior to my visit. (...which he did, and which not only helped prompt additional treatment options there, but also allowed me to interact with my surgeon much more confidently.) The value of excellent physical therapy is beyond description. A surgeon will usually do excellent work on your body part and will also provide you with both written and verbal instructions for follow-up home care and exercises. But the healing process is so much more complicated than that--more like a roller coaster ride--and not the kiddie version, but one with super highs and super lows and lots of swirls and curlycues. Unless there's a serious issue, your surgeon is totally out of the loop during all this. But your physical therapist is there every step of the way, watching you, helping you, guiding you, teaching you, reassuring you that the road to recovery is never a straight path, but has known and natural curves and dips. This and so much more is what Nate has done for me (along with Michael and Shelly). He sped along my healing, explained and illustrated the nature of the healing process, helped me pay closer attention to what was happening inside my knee and leg, and (this is hugely important) gave me a huge dose of Peace of Mind at every visit. I really enjoyed my physical therapy experience at Wertz. I went in to recover from a sprained ankle and I definitely feel a huge improvement. The place is small which makes for a more personalized experience and the staff remembers you. Scheduling was also very easy and flexible.
