I reached out to this orthopedic doctor for a very simple request: I already had a VA diagnosis of…read moretendinosis in my right ankle, and all I needed was for the doctor to review an Independent Medical Opinion letter and state whether he agreed with it based on his medical expertise. This is a common, straightforward step for veterans working through the VA disability process. Unfortunately, my experience with the office was extremely disappointing. The front desk staff spoke to me in a rude and dismissive tone from the beginning. I explained multiple times that I did not need another diagnosis--I already had one from the VA--and only needed a medical agreement or disagreement with the IMO. The secretary insisted the doctor "wouldn't do anything unless he could bill the VA and give his own diagnosis," completely ignoring what I actually needed and showing no willingness to help. Veterans already face enough hurdles in the disability process. Finding a doctor who is willing to provide a simple professional opinion shouldn't be this difficult. The lack of courtesy and the refusal to assist unless they could bill for additional services was unprofessional and disheartening. I would not recommend this office to any veteran needing support with VA-related documentation or respectful, patient-centered care.

Remember a few months ago when I bitched about the terror that is Jason Cochran, orthopedic surgeon…read morefrom hell? Well I got a new referral to Kenton Waterbrook and he was excellent. Took lots of time with me to listen and understand my problems, did X-rays, reviewed all my medical documentation, determined that the cause of my pain is the IM rod in my tibia, was able to give me a detailed and logical explanation for why he could not do surgery to remove the rod, and gave me suggestions for how to manage the pain given that surgery was not an option. Night and day experience. If you need an OS in Lansing, I highly recommend Dr. Waterbrook.

I was told to bring in my X-rays I had done so he could compare them to what he was supposed to do and wouldn't do it. He told me my shoulder should be stretched until I cried and that my other one looked the same. But I can move the other one without issue and without pain. So no, not actually true! I've been dealing with shoulder pain for 5 months and he's just making me wait too long to get answers I need. I don't appreciate doctors who try to give you the run around. Don't recommend this office at all for Dr. McDermott. I had already waited 6 weeks to see him and should have had a mri done while waiting to see him so now I would know my answers I needed. So now I have to wait another month to figure out what the problem is. He's not helpful! Getting refered to someone else because I don't trust this guy. He's terrible!

I had already witnessed the expert and loving care provided to my elderly mother at their Holt location, and knew that I would be given the same kind of care at their new Okemos location. I've visited many physical therapists over my 60 accident prone years, and all were competent. But none have left such a deep and lasting impression as the folks at ORS. The compassionate care and concern extended by each and every employee, to each and every patient no matter the size or scope of injury is truly genuine. It's been said that laughter is the best medicine. The ORS staff's ability to take that to heart and make me laugh instead of cry while restoring critical flexion and function to my dominant arm was truly remarkable. I wish I had called Katranji right away, but I relied on Google reviews and was deterred by a few negative ones. So I called a different place. The problem is, the other place requires a referral just to schedule an appointment - which is a terrible policy in my opinion (Katranji doesn't require a referral to make an appointment). So I had to wait over a week just to get in to see my PCP first. That was discouraging because I found out later that surgery on this tendon should be performed within a week. But at least when I did see my PCP, they recommended Katranji instead. By the time I saw Dr Katranji it had already been two weeks since the accident (2 days before I called PCP, 8 days to get in to see them, and 4 more days to see Katranji because the appointment was made on a Friday). I'm grateful that Dr. K and his staff were as forgiving as they were knowledgeable. Because of the time that had elapsed I was concerned, but the doc told me it was fine, and was a relatively easy procedure. Surgery was two days later at McLaren. It went great and I'm on the mend with minimal pain. To summarize, everything that took place once I saw Dr. Katranji was positive, and his staff was kind and professional as well. I'm very grateful.
