I mosied in here hoping to get a Powerhouse. I opted against it because it didn't have sprouts, so I ordered the chicken salad instead. Upon entry, I scanned the space--soup mixes, muffins, cookies, scones, biscuits, loaves of bread. Everything looked fresh, beautiful, and temptingly homemade. A "New Management" sign caught my eye, so I asked the cashier if he was the new owner. He smiled, shook his head, and pointed toward a young man with tattoos--Seth--busy packaging loaves at a prep table. Seth smiled and waved. The cashier went off to make my sandwich. When Seth finished his task, he came over to chat. I learned he's the baker, that all their food is halal, and we bonded over talk of the Powerhouse sandwich and soup selections. He mentioned that the cashier (whose name I forgot to get) is the sandwich master and makes the chicken salad himself. Seth grinned and said, "So if you have a problem with the sandwich, it's his fault." I laughed. I grabbed my order--plus a few dried soups--and headed to the car. Starved, I took one bite before pulling off. I'm glad I did. I immediately set the sandwich on the seat, jumped out, and ran back inside. From the door I yelled, "Errmaaagawd--it's sooo good!" The chicken salad was perfectly seasoned, all white meat yet still moist, with just a little kick. The sandwich itself had crisp lettuce, tomato, and a bit of red onion, all nestled between hearty multigrain bread studded with sunflower seeds. I'm so happy I came here for lunch. I needed something that tasted like a real farmhouse sandwich--not some commercial concoction. Oh--and ladies, in case you missed it... this place has a cutie on duty who bakes bread and another who makes the sandwiches. Are they married? I don't know. But eye candy is free, and honestly--what's more satisfying than a meal made by the hands of two very handsome men? Brag-worthy, I'd say so. read more

4.11.24 I had a bogo offer on sandwiches and $2 off any purchase that came in the mail so my hubby and I stopped in for an early dinner. They close at 6pm. He ordered the hot pastrami and I ordered the chicken salad on focaccia and a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin to go. My chicken salad was good, but the focaccia was too big for the sandwich. I removed the top slice of bread which made the ratio more proportionate. The bread didn't taste fresh and didn't have much flavor. Perhaps it wasn't the right selection for my chicken salad. My hubby liked his sandwich, but removed some of the sauerkraut as there was a lot. The muffin was good, but on the smaller side. The bakery is small and isn't meant for dine in. There are a few chairs, three counter seats by the unisex restroom, a small table for two, and a few patio tables. The unisex restroom has a barn sliding door which makes it feel homely. Aside from bread, sandwiches, pastries, and beverages, they sell prepackaged goods such as granola, oatmeal, honey, and jam. read more

And in conclusion....... The bread and other products are very good, but the sandwiches have gone downhill IMO. Ordered the Powerhouse assuming it was a regular Powerhouse but it was actually just onion, Romain, cucumber and tomato. That's not really my issue though. My issue is that both sandwiches used Romain and tomatoes that I'd put in compost. As you can see the tomatoes are almost white and completely flavorless. The Romain is all of the bitter yellow parts that no one wants to eat. They are only good covered in Caesar dressing. I don't think I'll order sandwiches again. For $9.75 I'd rather just buy a loaf and make 4 or 5 sandwiches. Again, it's not about value, but about using just bad ingredients. read more

Great Harvest Bread is that cozy, wonderfully aromatic bakery that you always tell yourself you should visit in the morning so you can have the best fresh bread for the rest of the day. Specializing in loaves, they have a large variety of baked every morning breads for sandwiches or centerpieces. For the breakfast lovers, they also sell pastries, scones, and biscotti's that add an extra bit of sweetness. While they regretfully do not sell bagels, they do have breakfast sandwiches (as well as your normal sandwiches) to start your day. Their sandwiches aren't fancy, just good quality ingredients served between excellent quality bread. They also have coffee which is ok, but if you're looking for a more gourmet coffee experience, you're better off grabbing some of Great Harvest's excellent bread products. The cashier their was incredibly nice. There are a handful of small tables if you want to eat there, and Great Harvest does sell some unique foodstuffs made by locals such as teas, syrups, and jams. Today I felt kind of stuck trying again for crown challah with golden raisins. Imagine my surprise to find a sign "under new management". Bought a loaf of white bread - who knew that fresh baked white could taste so good? There was a BOGO special, so also got challah (one of my faves). I was looking for a healthy lunch and online Great Harvest was suggested so decided to check it out. the cafe looks like a bread and healthy bakery + cafe so you can buy bread, healthy snacks, as well as sandwiches and rolls. i got the veggie three seed hummus sandwich and got the veggie roll to go. the sandwich was very big and decent with tasty hummus; the veggie roll was also good but tasted more like a rolled up pizza - good dough but needed some more veggies. overall a good and healthy lunch option read more

ordered delivery at 1008. called the restaurant at 1115 asking if the order is on the way, the man on the phone (Samir) said "hold on i need to speak with my boss, i'll have them call you". Samir himself called back and said "idk if anyone is coming to pick up or deliver it. do you already have someone coming to get the order?" i said no, i chose DELIVERY. he said "okay well let me work on it but it will take an hour". i said to give me a refund and he said "well i can come right now then". so i agreed. 10 minutes later he called to tell me one of my MEAL items wasn't available and offered me a muffin in exchange?? not to mention he still hadn't left and food was still being made? Really like walking into a small country store vibe. The cookies are delicious. My husband's favorite is the chocolate chip. The prices are reasonable as I don't mind paying a bit more to support local businesses. I guess the bread loaves are displayed openly so the customers can see and purchase, but I question how sanitary that is. I wouldn't mind seeing those sell by dates just so I can gauge freshness on the pies. At my last visit, I bought a BLT on sourdough. The bread was dry and crumbled while eating it, which is never fun. I also bought a loaf of bread. Dry. Would I keep going back? Yes, for cookies and the multigrain oatmeals. read more

Great Harvest bread is very inconsistent. I have had some great food but also been disappointed.They didn't have my online order ( with 5 days notice). And didn't issue the promised refund until after I followed up. On two separate occasions they made me the wrong sandwich. On two occasions my food was delicious. Stopped by to get sandwiches on the fly recently. The Ham and Brie was perfect! Apples slices were just right texture wise. My son enjoyed his as well, and dessert was a cranberry and orange cream cheese scone. So glad we stopped there! Bread snob here. We found this place maybe a year ago and enjoyed the bakery. There is definitely a difference in quality since new ownership. The bread is not cheap (at least $8 a loaf) and at least twice, the bread didn't taste right. Someone forgot the salt? We also bought rolls for Thanksgiving and they tasted like the baker dumped an entire bottle of sage into the dough. The breakfast sandwiches are plain Jane. Certainly not worth $10 each. We drive a bit to get to the bakery. Not sure it's worth it. Not sure I'd recommend it right now either. Very sad. read more

The food is fine, but it's very clear the new owners are not interested in the bakery part of the business. Bread bakeries don't delay opening until 11 AM or close all weekend. But more than that, when I asked for 2 loaves of bread to be sliced the person who took my order was not happy with me, he clearly did not want to be bothered. Fortunately there is The Breadery in Oella, where employees are happy to take bread orders. They will get my business from now on. read more

Just tried their caramel macchiato biscotti! Pleased to find it's not hard and crunchy but a little soft with enough structure to dip in a cup of coffee. And their breads are amazing too. Friendly service, great location. All good! read more

I visit Great Harvest Bread Companies all over the region and get a sense of their consistencies and the differences between the stores. I regrettably must say this Great Harvest is near the bottom of my list on which ones to visit. Firstly, they don't seem to bake certain products regularly- cinnamon chip scones for example- other locations have them virtually every day, but this location only bakes them about twice a week. I've noticed the same for items such as pumpkin bread, apple strudel, and various other baked products. Secondly, and very importantly- freshness. The last two times I came into this store, they had "fresh baked" items on display, which they said had been "baked this morning". Regrettably, both times the products were NOT fresh. I'm not sure if they were day-old items, or maybe baked at 12:01am and got "less than fresh" by early afternoon when I arrived (which I doubt), but I probably could have gotten fresher baked goods from the local Trader Joe's or Wegmans. This consistent disappointment has happened too many times at this store; I have not experienced it (consistently) at other Great Harvest locations, so I believe something is going on here with quality control and the amount of time from baking to selling. This issue needs to be addressed- you don't make a special trip to a bakery to get what tastes like day-old bread, so two stars. I'll come back when they fix the problem. read more

Did they change ownership or management earlier this year? It seems like things have gone noticeably downhill in recent months. For example, the other day I saw flies landing on the scones and muffins they have on the front. And the guy making my sandwich laid his phone all over the prep area where all the food. The people that work there are great & super friendly. We ordered the California club sandwich But they forgot 2 of the ingredients in our sandwich (avocado & blue cheese spread). Also this place is way overpriced it was $8 for a basic sandwich. Not good value & no attention to details when advertising ingredients like avocado in a Sammy. Stopped here for some soup mix. They carry the fantastic Anderson House mixes, so easy and delicious for busy families! They had a beautiful display of pumpkin spice muffins and cookies. Snickerdoodles are my favorite and their pumpkin spiced snickerdoodles did not disappoint! Service was so friendly and personal! Great Harvest really isn't set up for dining in, having three stools and a small counter. But they're clearly all about fresh baking and taking your food to go. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I ordered the egg and cheese breakfast and the young lady who helped me was pleasant and friendly. While she was preparing away, I could hear the rest of the baking crew making bread and other goodies having an enjoyable time at work. Sounded like a fun place. Getting my sandwich back the the office, it was excellent. Spinach and feta sliced bread with a big egg and a lot of cheddar cheese on it. Very tasty, very filling. Very good stuff. read more

This location is under new ownership, and some things have improved, such as customer service, but not everything. They don't offer as many varieties of bread as some locations, but what they offer is good. They don't offer tastes, they don't have a loyalty program. I just tried the almond pound cake. Loaf is smaller than before, and recipe is not as good. I think the previous recipe had almond paste, but the new cake tastes like extract. Cake is a bit gummy; maybe over-mixed? I'm very impressed by the craftsmanship of this company! Everyone is friendly and the food is delicious. So much variety and fun to sample the breads of the day. My favorite hot food is the pepperoni roll! The breads are paired well with jellies or butter. I love bread!! Some people crave chocolate, I crave bread and no one does a better job of offering a wide variety of freshly baked loaves than Great Harvest. Did I mention that most of the bread is available for a sample on the breadboard? There are also cookies, granola, cake (in a pan slightly smaller than a loaf pan) and scones. They will also make sandwiches on the bread of your choice. #Winning. Favorite loaf: Cinnamon chip; Vanilla Almond swirl and then the Dakota. There is a weekly menu which outlines which loaves will be baked that day but I never take it home because I am afraid I would not be able to control myself. There is an assortment of butter, jams/jellies/honey. All the yummy things to put on top of your loaf. Be warned though. You will find an excuse to keep coming back. The prices are a bit on the high side but then again: freshly baked loaves!! read more

(The raspberry jam is really good on a cinnamon bagel, by the way.) Nice little selection at fair prices. They even have samples ready and waiting for you to nibble on. The Great Harvest Bread Company, is more good than great. Their baked goods range from good to exceptional; like any bake shop it all depends on who is working the dough. For example, their cream cheese scones are delicious, but biting into a chunk of unblended cream cheese, is a bit unpleasant. A quibble...but if one desires greatness.... Update: Well, given the feedback regarding the baking technique, I'd recommend those who try the scones to decide for themselves whether it works. I've eaten many scones as pathetic as that statement is, and this recipe is the first of its kind I've encountered. read more

Update: I came back in recently and saw a guy smoke and go in side door. He immediately touched the bread. I did not see him wash his hands. I'm sure it bakes off but it's gross. Originally I posted about how delicious the cinnamon scones were warmed up with a cup of coffee. I was helped by an employee named Fran. She was a delight to meet. When I came back however it was earlier in the morning to get a different scone. She wasn't there. I was helped by the guy who smoked. I'm not sure his name. He had a plaid jacket and a lot of hair. He seemed rushed to get me out of there. I didn't feel welcomed this time. As mentioned above, he came in after smoking and didn't notice I was waiting. He touched the bread quickly and it led to the impression he didn't wash his hands. When he noticed me, it felt rushed and cold like the weather. This location got new owner ship last year. It appears that the new owner has no experience in food service and has decided to learn nothing in the last 10 months. Every thing is of a diminished quality and increased prices. I finally complained about the new owner coming in from smoking out front and not washing his hands. I also asked about money being counted on the bread table while bread was sitting on the same surface cooling. He was wiping his face, running his fingers through his hair, touching money and touching random surfaces. Gross. This the 4th owner in 12 years and this guy clearly cannot follow a template that all other owners followed. The cookies are hard, the bread is not the same quality, fingerprints on packaging, etc. When asked about all the differences, new employees tell long term customers about how it's always been this way. Nope. It was telling when all the previous employees quit. And now, it's telling because another long term customer (12 years, same location) is quitting too. read more
