Sweet potato cheesecake

So I'm back with another review! I was in the area and decided to try the bacon cheddar scone and apple brandy bread pudding, and they're both on the money!!! That scone was everything and then some! The bacon, cheddar, and chives were just the right mix. They weren't stingy with the bacon, and the scone had a delicious hint of sweetness! The bread pudding is downright delicious! I'll most definitely be coming back to try other items.

A Trio Of Heaven!!!(Vegan Apple Brandy Bread Pudding, Sweet Potato Cheesecake, Lemon Bundt Cake)

(PURCHASED DEC 7TH, 2024) So I was having a craving for some dessert goodness on a Friday. You know, one of those moments when you're craving something sweet after a long week at work and the gym. I came across this little hidden gem whilst going down a local bakery Google search rabbit hole. And boy I'm glad I did!! The misses and I got into the truck and headed on out. Now... this is where we messed up, I thought it was an actual brick and mortar store front, but sadly it's not. We drove around, and got lost for a couple mins before we actually called the number on online, and to our surprise, it was answered by the owner herself (Aisha). We eventually found it, but she politely told us that unfortunately you have to order in advance to pick up the pastries, but we could order them today, and she will bring them 1st thing in the am on Saturday morning, and they will be ready. "Deal!" We ordered the lemon bundt cake, brandy apple bread pudding, and sweet potato cheesecake before even leaving the parking lot. As you can see, I was committed to these treats. The following day, the misses drove out, picked up the PACKAGE, and called me immediately to say, "They look so good!" When I got home that evening I had to try them one by one, and let me tell you, these desserts were well worth the wait!! The lemon bundt cake hit all the right notes - moist, fluffy, with just enough lemon to make it interesting without overwhelming you. This was the misses favorite! But the sweet potato cheesecake? That's where things got serious. If you're a fan of sweet potato pie, and cheesecake, this here will blow your mind! I've had sweet potato cheesecake several times before, but this was the best one I've ever had. Lastly, the bread pudding. The BREAD PUDDING.... The real star of the show! The apple pieces were perfectly sized, and unlike many bread puddings that turn to mush, this one maintained a lovely texture throughout. While I couldn't really detect the brandy, it honestly didn't matter - each bite was so good I found myself rationing the slice to make it last longer. Definitely going back for more of this. Sure, you'll need to plan ahead to enjoy these treats, but trust me - Applecore is worth the extra effort. Whether you're looking to satisfy a dessert craving or need catering for an event, this hidden gem delivers quality that'll keep you coming back for more.

I am not a sweet eater; but boy has Applecore won me over! My bestie brought one of their cakes over for dessert. The cake was moist, not overly sweet, and brought back nostalgic feelings of what my grandmother baked. A few weeks later, we went to a performance at the Meyerhoff. Applecore had a table of their amazing confections in the lobby. The owners are VERY personable and explained they even have gluten-free and vegan cakes. My bestie and I each grabbed a pistachio cake that melted like butter in your mouth. I will definitely buy dessert from them for ALL of my upcoming events.

Lemon Blueberry Lavender cake

Amazing experience at Applecore!! The vibe is great, lots of seating options and great outdoor seating options at the waterfront. It service was awesome! It was so nice to get recommendations and you honestly can't go wrong. There is something for everyone. So far, I am hooked on the lemon blueberry lavender cake and it comes in a vegan option!! Honestly you can't go wrong with so many great options. Can't wait to go back

Vegan sweet potato cake

Absolutely THE BEST vegan cake I have ever tasted! I don't know how she does it, but wow - her cakes are SO MOIST and flavorful. I stopped by their pop-up shop and picked up an assortment of cakes and cookies - everything was excellent! My mom devoured the lemon blueberry lavender cake. Met owner, Aisha Applewhite - she is very nice! Looking forward to becoming a regular.

The Luau BBQ bowl was delicious- the citrus ginger sauce really surprised me with how flavorful it was without having one thing overpower it. The menu offers a nice balance between curated bowls and build-your-own options, and everything on display looked vibrant and genuinely fresh. Even the subtle aroma of garlic in the air set the tone in the best way. I don't usually go for chicken (I cook enough of it at home), but being from Hawaii, there was no way I was passing up on their limited-time Huli Huli chicken. For those unfamiliar, traditional Huli Huli chicken is typically bone-in, skin-on, soaked in a brine, marinated with a blend of soy sauce, ginger, brown sugar, garlic, and pineapple juice maybe rice vinegar or ketchup, it's all left to the cook. Basted several times as the meat is flipped until fully cooked. Back home, you don't just eat it--you experience it. You smell it long before you see it--grilling on those iconic half oil drum kettles along the roadside, often set up for fundraisers or local gatherings. The sight of chicken quarters being flipped ("huli" means "turn") and basted over open flames is pure island nostalgia. So yes, expectations were high. I was offered a sample, and it delivered. The flavor balance was spot on--savory, slightly sweet, and deeply satisfying. The chicken itself was moist and tender. The only thing missing was that classic crispy, charred skin and the full leg quarter presentation you'd find back home--but even so, it didn't disappoint and left me wanting more. My bowl came together beautifully with coconut sweet potato sauce, fresh spinach, garlicky cilantro green beans, and basmati rice. It was flavorful, well-balanced, and delicious. Service was another highlight--the staff was friendly, patient and helpful with recommendations. The space itself is not large to eat in but it was clean, bright with ocean-toned blues that nod to its island inspiration. I'll definitely be back--especially while that Huli Huli chicken is still on the menu.

Located in Columbia, parking is fair considering this is a pretty populated area. I ordered online, and scheduled my food for a specific time, so I am not sure of the wait times; although when I arrived it was packed. I got an everything bagel, with plain cream cheese, lox and the fixings (sans capers, I hate those little buggers). Overall, I enjoyed my bagel, it wasn't maxed out with cream cheese, I felt there could have been a bit more lox and lettuce, as I did not get them with the majority of my bites. I may give THB another try.

It feels upscale but still very welcoming. The service was excellent, and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered a little bit of everything--the charcuterie board, mussels, buffalo cauliflower, short rib pappardelle, Wagyu burger, pizza, and cocktails. The mussels were absolutely incredible, and every dish came out hot, looked great, and tasted even better. Honestly, there wasn't a single thing we didn't enjoy. Warning the review is long. TLDR: service is so bad and so expensive for shitty quality food. Though their coffee and sangria were delicious. We were seated promptly and while waiting for the rest of my family arrived the waiter brought us water. He claimed the appetizers were good for sharing so I was expecting the portions to be good. Our party was 8 adults and 2 kids. We got 4 appetizers and it's good we got 4 of them because had we gotten 1 or 2, literally everyone would get like 1/2-1/4 piece of appetizer. So not sure why he said the appetizer was good sharing size. Also I want to note these appetizers are not cheap. They were very expensive for the amount you get. You would think if you paid $20-$22 per app you would get more. Literally paying for an entree with significantly less food. Onto the food: The waiter claimed that the Lemongrass chicken was "juicy". We got two of these and it was SO SO DRY. The Mediterranean salad I got was so salty. And the mussels that I also ordered were disappointing. I want to say 60% of the mussels were closed. This indicates that these might have been undercooked, poor quality or simply did not get checked. The mussels were so salty as well. What really pissed me off is that my mom ordered the shrimp tacos. Nothing complicated about that right? Well they never came out. We find out that there was a mixup so they sent it to a different table and we're "working" on a new one. Tell me why almost two hours later they never came out till we asked for the check? Then they magically come out in a to-go container. Literally the sloppiest mess you can imagine. How is that acceptable? You're telling me it took 2 hours to make this pile of shit? And what's even more absurd is their own menu says it comes with fries. Well in that small ass container they did not include fries. I asked about this and they looked confused and said it should come with fries and that they would get it. I have never experience such ABYSMAL, ATROCIOUS service. Sure the waiters and front staff were nice but nice doesn't make up for the terrible service. Something is going on in the kitchen for sure. Why does it take 1 hour for appetizers to come out. And then 45 min after only 3 people's meals come out. In polite company you would wait for everyone's food to come out to begin eating, but idk what they were doing back there that there was such a delay. Once the 4 of us finished our meal well the 5 people's food comes out, they got an entire order wrong. Ordered a kids pepperoni pizza and they brought cheese. We told the waiter that this was wrong and literally 5 min after he brings what I can say is the SAME DAMN CHEESE PIZZA with pepperoni slices right on top and a bit of Parmesan cheese. We could tell it was the same pizza because the pepperoni were sitting right on top like someone just added it on. We complained to the manager and he brought a new pepperoni pizza that was good this time. We had to ask multiple times for condiments and water refills. I could give a little leeway if this restaurant was so busy but it was not busy at all. Our waiter kept peeking over at us and not coming over like he was scared. And if your service is gonna be this bad, at least the food should be good but no. You have terrible service and shitty food that you're paying $$$ for. And gratuity being included is laughable because the service provided was not worth an almost $80 tip. We had to get up and find the waiter to ask for the check and where the hell the shrimp tacos were. In the end they tried to comp only the pizza and the shrimp tacos, but that was unacceptable. They did comp the appetizers. But they tried to give us brunch vouchers but why the hell would we come back to this place that had terrible service?? Make it make sense. And now that I review the 1 star reviews, it is consistent with everything we experienced. Terrible service, missing food, and hunting down the staff. Also the owner responds to bad reviews with AI responses. Shame.

For a couple of months my friend, who is of Turkish heritage and lives out in Germantown, wanted to meet me closer to my home to go to Cazbar. We went on Saturday, 9/6/25 for lunch (lunch prices are better as why I shot for lunch time). We walked in, and it was fancy Middle Eastern decor. Server was nice & efficient answering questions. I got their take on flatbread pizza called Lamb Pide. Wow, the lamb and pizza as a whole was amazing. My friend got some more expensive platter, which looked good. If I came back, I'd maybe get something like what he got. My friend (& me to a lesser extent) were cogitating on getting a dessert. I think me saying we ate a lot, it's extra calories, & prices are pretty high for dessert, ended up swaying him not to get dessert.
