I've been going here since the pandemic and have never gotten a bad haircut. My schedule is unpredictable so I am mostly a walk in, but whenever that works out, I couldn't be happier. I have had many different Great Clips hairdressers. I am pleased with all of their work. They are all very careful and listen to my preferences. I leave very happy. I'm more flexible than most, but still value my time, and Great Clips in Oak Park works out very well. Truth be told, I got a much MUCH better cut at Great Clips than another salon that charges $80! My curiosity is satisfied. You can get what you want and not overspend. I highly recommend Great Clips. Give them a try! read more

Went here for a haircut over the weekend but had to wait as long as had no reservation. While waiting I saw a deal on Yelp under check in for haircuts at less than $10. After starting my cut I showed to my stylist. She asked me for the "code" which I could not find. She said without a code, they couldn't accept the special. She indicated it must be fake. So now, not only did I not get the price, she was accusing me of trying to rip them off! I'm gonna find another place if I can find one in Oak Park. read more

EDIT: the manager Ana has reached out with a genuine apology and offered to correct their hair. I changed my review from one star to 3 for the customer service. Thank you for showing you genuinely care about your customers. I allowed my step daughter to get her hair donated with her aunt on April 1st. I was hoping it'd be an April fools joke, but I guess the jokes on me! Her hair looks horrible and so does her aunts. I feel as if this establishment took advantage of my family members being mainly Spanish speaking and did a real crappy job cutting their hair. My daughter was very specific and just wanted it cut one length. As was my sister in law who was also donating her hair. My daughter refuses to take her shortest layer out of a ponytail or braid because it looks HORRIBLE when it's down. Apparently whoever cut my daughters hair decided it would be a good idea to tell her "oh get layers you'll look really pretty". Let's be honest she's pretty either way but tell an 11 year old that comment & OF COURSE she's going to say okay without questions! It honestly looks as if the two different individuals who cut their hair never did a donation cut before, let alone layers! Layers are supposed to blend! Let me tell you my daughter and my sister in law HAD BEAUTIFUL long hair. They were both so happy to donate it for a good cause! (Wigs for Kids) I'm happy they donated their hair. I'm unhappy about my daughter crying about her hair looking horrible, I'm unhappy about my daughter not feeling pretty, I'm unhappy about this short layer of hair my daughter has that look like half assed bangs. Three weeks ago, I got a haircut here on a whim and was underwhelmed. The stylist got both my first and last names wrong, even though I spelled them. I asked her to give my bangs attention, but she missed a spot altogether. And something wasn't right about the back...she'd chipped into the sides but left the center long. After pinning up my hair for three weeks, I was tired of compromising. I got a corrective bang trim elsewhere today (which ended up becoming a full-fledged cut), and it was then that I really saw all the mistakes in my hair. My stylist today had to take at least an inch off the back to fix it. I see a lot of good reviews here, so maybe I caught her on a bad day. But two haircuts in three weeks is too costly to take that chance again. read more

Pathetic would be an understatement. A very rude person called Antoinette started to cut my hair and whatever I explained at the beginning, she did the opposite. Example - I said taper my hair from the sides and she just cleaned it all from the sides. When I very politely and calmly told her that it seems that it's too short, she rudely told me "do you understand English?". Not only did it sound racist because I'm an immigrant, but also very condescending. Being racist seems to be the birthright of the likes of her. Never again am I coming back to this place. read more

I told them I wanted to keep my hair long and they completely ignored what I wanted them to do and cut almost everything off and didn't even cut my hair evenly. I have been coming here on and off for several years. I keep coming back after I go to salons for a haircut that takes an hour, the cut is just so so, I get the hard sell on products they want me to buy and the cost is 3 or 4 times as much as Great Clips. My cuts are good at Great Clips, and often great. I'm in and out in 15 minutes and the stylists are pleasant and efficient. I read some of the negative reviews on here and wonder what are people expecting for a $10-$20 haircut. But my $10-$20 haircuts far exceed my $30-$40 haircuts and take a fraction of the time. My husband has also started going here and appreciates the convenience and the price. read more

Is this the best haircut you can find in the OP? No, it is not. However, the next better haircut costs $35 before a tip. I get in and out of Great Clips quickly, I don't need an appointment, and it costs only $12! I pay $15 and I feel like Mr. Big Shot Big Tipper. The women working there are a little quiet and shy (in my experience), but they don't mess around. They are efficient and respectful. They check in with me to make sure I haven't changed my preferences since my last visit. And if I feel that something needs to be fixed at the end, they keep at it until it is done. One note about the Great Clips system... It appears that they store certain information about how I like my hair, such as what length to set for the trimmers. However, this isn't as effective as the Great Clips overlords probably think it is. So many other aspects go into a haircut than you could easily store in a database in a retail environment. You still need to hire skilled, experienced workers who know their way around many different heads of hair. read more

Groupon users beware. I'm a regular. The cut is usually good- but this one time with a groupon- completely horrid. Presented my coupon to the hair stylist- and blam everything changed. Here's what was completely different. 1- Did not use the white tape around the neck to prevent hair from getting into shirt 2- Used a razor to trim sides, and trimmed off top by hand. However DID NOT trim edges around once, offer to even out my sideburns or use a mirror to show the back of my head. 3- Total time for hair cut ~10 min. Previous visits were 15-18 min. 4- Barely trimmed the top- I had to ask her to do a little more, which she did haphazardly. 5- Did not offer hair gel (usually does). 6- At the end I was going to tip her as I always do- her response - "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know you were going to tip. I don't even know how to charge you for a tip". Another 5 min later after getting another stylist to the computer she was able to charge me- at that point I was ready to give her zero. Now, my previous visits- I'd give them 4 stars easily, they were solid cuts. But with a Groupon everything changes. Buyer beware. read more

DO NOT come here. I read the reviews on this place, and they were mostly bad, but I just get a simple cut--trim, long layers--so I figured I'd give it a try for a quick cut. The woman who cut my hair was nice, asked how I was, typical small talk. Then, her phone rang while she was in the middle of cutting my hair. 1. Why can I hear YOUR personal cell phone ringing while YOU are at work? 2. She stopped, mid haircut to try to pick up the phone call, but she missed the call. 3. She called the person back, and had at least a 5 minute conversation. I was shocked. She came back, and apologized, but I didn't want to say anything until she finished cutting my hair. Then, while she was finishing my haircut, the other stylist went in the back and was talking on HER personal cell phone, which I could clearly hear the entire conversation. Then, more customers walked in, so the other stylist came from the back, STILL on her phone, and my stylist told her in Spanish, to hurry up and get off the phone because there are customers. The other stylist CONTINUED to talk on her phone for another minute before she greeted and helped them. My haircut is fine, but that kind of service is OBSCENE, especially when the cut itself did not take longer than 10 minutes, but their conversations were obviously more important than their customers. read more

I've gone to Great Clips at a different location and have zero problem. I came to this location after I moved and never again. The staff was fake friendly, and barely greeted me before asking if I wanted a cut. The other location asked what I wanted, if I wanted a shampoo, and were super friendly. The woman who cut my hair didn't listen either, and cut it way too short. When she was done, I had to tell her that it was uneven. She evened it out, all the while saying it was how my hair was styled so it looked uneven. She also took two phone calls in the middle of my haircut! Terrible service. read more

Good haircut but this is the second time I went in there and was assaulted by why trump is better than Hilary. I'm seeing ads everyday and so i don't need it from the stylists to. And the stuff they are saying isn't even factual. Just cut my hair, ugh. Two people left saying they would never go back, and i would make the third in a row. I have always known never to talk about politics or religion with clients. These two have no clue that they are running people out of the store with their attacks on Hilary and unprofessional political vomit that is completely misinformed. If any of my employees talked about politics to my clients it would be an automatic write up. If three clients said they wouldn't be back because of them, they would be fired. Sportclips is just down the street, a little more expensive but i won't be assaulted be political ads. read more

Do not waste your time and money coming here ! The staff has a serious attitude problem . I came in yesterday around 3pm for a hair wash and to straighten my hair , simple enough ! The hairstylist with brown/red hair had a problem with the length of my hair ! She went over to her coworker ( blonde hairstylist ) and asked her how much she should charge me to do a hair wash and straighten my hair ! This was close enough for me to hear the whole conversation! The blonde hairstylist said "$25 because those are our prices " and then the rude stylist says "are you kidding me ? I'm not doing all of that for $25" She came back by me and told me "sorry we are too busy now " (place was not busy ) and sent me on my way ! I was shocked , I just walked out and will never be back . What's the point of working for a hair salon when you don't want to do hair or follow the set prices. Disgusting costumer service ! Honestly, I'd give zero stars if it were an option. Brought in two 3 year olds for hair cuts. We've been before and have always been very satisfied. Stylist didn't take her time, doesn't know how to communicate with children, both boys ended up with horrible, uneven hair cuts, the stylist took less then 10 minutes on both cuts combined. Fall family photos have to be postponed because the cuts are that terrible. We will not be going back. read more

Finally found my hair stylist in oak park! For some reason all the barber shops in the area charge $30+ for a men's haircut. I get mine done about once every 3-4 weeks and a cut as straightforward as mine doesn't warrant an insane price tag. I found great clips through yelp, went in at 5:15 on a Monday and was in a chair having my hair cut no more than 5 minutes later. My stylist, Mary, was super friendly and cut my hair with zero effort. Normally when I get a trim done, it takes a few days for it to look half decent even with globs of clay and pomade, but miraculously it looked great the moment I finished my post haircut shower. The haircut for a male is $13 so with tip it cost me $16. I have had few better haircuts than this and for the price, it's a serious bargain. Hope I can improve this place's rep because it is definitely deserving of it! Will be coming here again and again. read more

If I could give them less than 1 star, I would. WORST HAIR CUT OF MY LIFE. Now, I knew I was going to get what I paid for and wasn't expecting greatness. In fact, I only went in to have my split ends trimmed off. That went ok. The problem was what the butcher did to my bangs. I asked to for my bangs to be trimmed so they went right below my eyebrow. I said they were side bangs and told her to just trim them dry as they were. She trimmed my bangs to about an inch above my eyebrow and did them straight across. Due to her stunning hair cutting technique I couldn't even do anything because instead of trimming them as asked she literally took the scissors and got rid of my bangs in one snip of the scissors. I have nothing bad to say about this place. The staff are friendly, the price is right, and the stylist did a great job with my hair. I learned a while ago, as a guy, that when you get a good haircut, ask them what they did so that you can repeat it next time. Not only did she follow my instructions exactly, she also asked several questions as she went along to make sure it ended up exactly like I wanted it. I'm mostly bald and I thought, therefore, that I couldn't really get a bad hair cut. I was wrong. It was sloppy, uneven, missed some spots and accidentally shaved some others. As for the experience itself, my "stylist" spent the entire time complaining to a coworker, or just talking to herself about how another customer had complained about her to the manager and if they came in she would straighten them out "I don't care if I get suspended." Trash talking customers in front of other customers is rude and terrible business practice. My wife wanted me to have them fix it, but I'm not going back there. read more

I have been coming here for my 3boys for the last 5 years and the service has always been mediocre but this was the last straw. I checked in at 4:30 from home and the website allows me. I loaded my 3 boys into the car in the snow, arrived by 4:45 and they wouldn't take us for our haircuts!! Their website specifically stated that I would be taken if I arrived before 5 which I did. Horrible customer service. We tried to take our son for a hair cut this afternoon and they had their doors locked at 20 minutes prior to their closing time, when I knocked on the door,they just stood their and looked at me, and until someone finally came over. I asked if they could please do a quick hair cut for our son ( 2 years old) and they said no and shut their door. Will never be trying them, we ended up walking down Lake Ave to Hair Cuttery and even though they also were closing at 5pm, they were wonderful enough to give my son a haircut, and it took them all of 10 minutes, and they did a great job. If you are going to say Walk Ins Welcome, don't lock your door 20 minutes before your scheduled closing time, that is just plain rude. read more
