I'm writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with a recent visit to your salon. While I had been there a few times before and found the service mediocre but acceptable, this experience was significantly worse. During this visit, the haircut itself lasted no more than eight minutes before I was passed between multiple staff members to complete a blow-dry. The result did not resemble the cut I had requested, and when I asked for adjustments, I was discouraged from doing so. When I ultimately decided to leave and have it corrected elsewhere, I was still charged $50 for a service that was clearly incomplete. After raising my concerns, the owner initially stated that my requested style could not be achieved, then reluctantly attempted to make further cuts after an additional wait. This follow-up was brief, rushed, and done in a manner that felt dismissive and unprofessional. Beyond the haircut itself, I found the overall experience deeply uncomfortable. I left feeling poorly treated and dissatisfied, ultimately needing to correct the haircut myself at home. Additionally, I observed a pattern of overbooking and multitasking among clients, leading to long wait times despite having an appointment, minimal attention during the service, and a lack of communication or accountability. There was no meaningful effort to address my concerns or ensure a satisfactory outcome. This experience reflects poorly on both the quality of service and general business practices. I would not return, nor recommend this salon based on this experience. read more

Finding this salon and getting a last minute appointment was what saved me after another salon in the area cancelled on me at last minute. Armida was able to fit me in and took her time doing a great job at getting my extra dark post pregnancy hair lifted and toned to the right level. After moving to Chicago from Miami I thought it'd be impossible to find a great stylist that could offer clean work without frying my hair off and asking for a kidney. Lena fit me in last minute during a terrible rain storm this week! Gave me the perfect cut- exactly like the photo I showed her- and I was in and out in 35 minutes for an excellent price, $25 less than what I typically pay at a nearby salon. Then Armida offered me an umbrella that she says she keeps just for customers to use if they get caught in a storm. How thoughtful! My two teens and my husband have come to Armida for years but I stubbornly stayed at the other salon. No more! I'll be coming to Lena and Armida at Venus from now on! Be sure to bring check or cash as they don't accept credit cards or debit. They said I could bring the cash tomorrow as it was raining and late. I was able to run to the bank a block away, but it was kind of them to offer to let me settle the bill the next day. read more

Being androgynous in a hair salon can be tricky, typically stylists ask a million questions and give me the "but you'd look so much prettier with long hair!" To preface, I first came upon Venus Hair Studio after calling countless local salons to schedule a corrective consultation. Venus Hair Studio was able to not only see me, but fit in the 2-3 hour long process that would ensue, that too on a busy weekend. I was seen shortly after arrival and we thoroughly discussed what my corrective options would be (one even color vs toner vs balayage, etc). Armida and Lena were so incredibly sweet, understanding, informative and non judgmental of my diy-gone-awry (see images). They looked through examples of images that I had, and really broke down how feasible it would be with my hair type, current color, etc. Throughout the process, I was made to feel very comfortable with every step, they really listened. That was key. The result... EXACTLY. Really. Exactly what I wanted. Dare I say it, it kicked my inspirational pictures butt! They're prices are incredible! I was expecting to hear around $300 for one session, based on comparing prices in the area. However, for my really long, recently bleached orangey hair- I paid approx $130 (not including tip) for dark brown/black at roots with balayage including wash, tone, dry, and style. We've moved a lot, and the worst part is finding new doctors, new dentist, and new hairstylists! Luckily I stumbled across Armida just after we got here a year or so ago, and I am thrilled. I get a fabulous color and a beautiful precision short cut every month or so, for a very reasonable price. This is the best haircolor I've ever had-- it stays fresh looking the whole time. I generally call the day or two before I want to go in, and can get an appointment. Armida is fun to talk to, and her shop is very cozy and comfortable. Bonus for me is I can walk there, but there's ample parking on the street, as well as a lot off the alley. I highly recommend Venus. read more

Armida is an artist. I have thin hair and a lot of it, which often means I can't keep a short, straight length style very long before it starts looking bushy. Armida has helped me keep this style for a couple years now. Also, I enjoy my highlights and the coloring is perfect. On Saturdays, Armida has other beauticians work with her. I have had my hair done by another beautician at her salon and I was just as pleased. I believe this means that Armida selects good talent and you are in good hands at Venus Salon on any day. Very friendly neighborhood salon! I was visiting Chicago area and just really needed my bangs trimmed. After having brunch in this neighborhood with a friend, I found this salon close by on yelp and decided to give it a shot. The hair lady was really nice and friendly - she's the only one working in the salon and there are customers back to back!
