They sometimes run unadvertised haircut sales for $9.99 and $14.99....last time i visited i lucked out and got a haircut for $9.99. With hair stying salons being closed for so long during the state's COVID restrictions, my daughters desperately needed haircuts. Prior to this pandemic, we were very happy with Great Clips. Their online check in, ability to pre-purchase haircuts, quick service, pleasant and attentive stylists were all positives. This last visit, however, was HORRIBLE and we left with our daughter in TEARS. First, we had never seen this stylist before. We had been to this location a few times, so many of the stylists' faces are familiar, so I'm assuming this stylist was new. This should have been a red flag/warning to leave, but since we were just getting a trim, we figured it wouldn't be a big deal. Second, the stylist was very curt/borderline rude. When we were explaining how we wanted our daughter's hair trimmed, she cut us off and said, "Ya, ya, I know what to do" and shooed us away. This should have been our second red flag/warning to leave, but Great Clips saves notes on customers' cuts and it notes what was done the last time. Since she was looking at it at the time, we assumed she would follow it. Unfortunately, she didn't follow the notes - we asked for a trim on bangs and the ends - which were lightly layered at the neck line. Instead, she wound up giving our daughter a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT hair style - a VERY SHORT pixie type cut with the back/nape shaved. Because of the current COVID restrictions, we left our daughter with the stylist and waited outside until she was done so didn't see this happening to intervene. We have to note that our other daughter (her twin) was getting a trim with another stylist at the same time. This stylist waved at us through the window during the middle of her cut to check that the cut was progressing the way we wanted. I came in, approved, he continued, and I went back outside. The other stylist, however, never communicated with us during the cut, only when it was done. We also have to note that we've always taught our daughters to respect adults, so when we asked our daughter why she didn't say anything to the stylist when she noticed that she was cutting her hair too short, our daughter said that she was uncomfortable speaking up because she didn't want to be disrespectful or rude. Didn't bother to get the stylist's name, since we have no intention of returning. Despite having a card of pre-purchased hair cuts, we will not return to a business that won't listen to what the customer wants. read more

Checked in online at greatclips.com and when I arrived 30 minutes later (my wait time was 38 minutes) my name was first on the list. I waited a minute for the next available stylist to disinfect their station then I was seated. I had the luck of having Quoc cut my hair. Hes the first chair on the left, behind the desk. He asked me what I wanted so I said: Cut (below my shoulders to be exact), shampoo and conditioner. Now from what I experienced shampoo and conditioner is a two-for-one price because their conditioning treatment (on the menu) is a completely different deal - WHO KNEW lol. Quoc scrubbed my scalp intensely, that bugga was clean. When he cut my wet hair he was quick and efficient. The only thing he really ever said was, "hair no good, after cut looks much better". And for that Im thankful. He took off about 4.5" from the bottom and Im happy with the way it turned out. I will note that the day after, once my hair dried at home, my scalp was super itchy. I am very disappointed and angry! I have come here 2-3 times, tried working with the same person and yet it just does not get better. I communicate with the stylist clearly, bring a photograph of the style, show her how I would like my hair cut and layered. I discuss length in each area of my head, and explain the parts to pay attention/nuances due to how my hair grows. I am firm on maximum amount to take off. And yet due to a language barrier and the person only knows certain basic cuts, it never matches what I ask for and never improves. That's just ridiculous. I spend that time, she acts like she understands, and cuts it her way anyway. I am fit to be tied. I keep coming out with boyish-non feminine looking, rounded, short haircut that makes my hair have gaps and be too short to use culers to style it, makes me have shorter bangs that what I just said I wanted to be longer, and a much shorter length in the back that what I even walked in with. Now I have to grow my hair back out again for more than three months to get it back. Now I have to find a new place to go to that has really good English speaking hair stylists who have versitile skillsets and many years of experience. Not this placated cookie-cutter crap that you pay almost 30 bucks for and leave looking ridiculous. It is barely worth what a simple hair trim should be at for a session where they just cut everything off and leave you looking like shit. $15.00 would still have been too much for what I got. ***Never again!*** So if you are a guy or you are a female and have nothing but long straight hair or a blunt Bob cut, you will be happy here. But if you have a style you like, and want a different length with only taking off a quarter of an inch every where the scissor is used for the whole cut, and you would like to keep soft feminine flips and want the stylist to know you already have wavy hair that needs to stay longer in length in order to allow it to not curl more, and want longer bangs, plus a V cut at the bottm back instead of a straight cut bottom, then you will be absolutely miserable like me with what this place gives you! I feel robbed of my femininity so much so that I cried and will have to wear a hat to hide the ugly cut. First time back to this location since reopening and it was absolutely pathetic. First off, why do you have online check in when it's not even loosely followed? Checked in online at 9:10am and it said 45 minute wait. Drove to the salon at 9:45 and checked in, 2nd in line. Watched 7 people come in after me and get cut. The barber kept coming back saying, "one more quick, 10 minute". After an hour of waiting, we finally left. Great Clips is just as bad as Sport Cuts and any other "chain" barbers/salons. Go somewhere else. This place sucks. With businesses operating in the red and trying to recover, you'd think they'd be a little more customer oriented. Nope! Hopefully, they go out of business. I went to get my hair trimmed to my shoulders, probably cut off 3-4 inches. This was right after I got home! So I haven't fluffed it out, it's still somewhat damp... Ri, was the hair stylist I had. She's so sweet, loved my curly hair. What really brought me to write this was how she was so open to learn how I styled my hair naturally. I showed her how I section and finger curl (not much too it, but other places I've gone just scrunch and created more frizz). I've never had a hair stylist admit they didn't know how to style my hair, they always just went on a whim and made my hair so frizzy! So I loved that about my experience. We had a fantastic experience at this great clips. The two stylists knew their stuff! My sons never looked better and it was their first time going here! We could check in online so there was no wait. The stylists took their time to teach my boys what "number" to ask for if they go anywhere else and how to ask for the proper style... who knew barbers had their own lingo! Been to this location 3 times now, first time was with a man, I forgot to catch his name but he did an amazing job! Exactly what I asked for. I have pixie hair so it's not crazy, usually just need a taper all the way down and maybe a trim up top. Second time, got the older short hair woman with glasses (seen everyone lighting her up in these comments, too) and she jacked my hair up so bad. I was like why is this sticking up here? And she said "that's where your cowlick is" oh that's weird, I feel like this has been my head my entire life and I've never had a cowlick there, ok. It'll grow back, I said. Paid, and left. Went back today and waited for the same man as the first time and once again he knocked it out of the park. My receipt says his name is "Quoc." He's amazing. My hubby glanced at a sign and said "oooh $5.99 for hair clippers?" And i thought, "seriously? $5.99 for hair clippers? That's ridiculous". So he pulls into the parking and drives up to the store located adjacent to McDonald's. He says, "oh it's not hair clippers it's hairCUTS". So I told him, "hey go ask if it includes women haircuts and if they can cut my hair now!" He argues stating it was already 8:45pm and was sure they wouldn't take me. But since he listens to me (hehe) he walked in and asked if the $5.99 special included women haircut and if they could cut my hair. They answered YES to both questions. I walked in shortly after 8:45pm and 25min later I walked out satisfied with 3 inches off my previously dry hair with my layers neatly evened out. That's how quick it was. My hairstylist, Dee, has been a hairstylist for 15yrs working for the other brand x hairstylist companies. Great Clips is a franchise originally based from Minnesota. But it was good to see that the stylist, Dee and the two other ladies in there were locals from Hawaii. This is the 3rd location on the island and there may be more that will pop up somewhere. But for now, I'm satisfied with this location. Parking is simple since its located at Moanalua Shopping Mall. The cool thing is appointments and check ins are all done through the website. I'm sure you can call also to get an appointment or just walk in like I did tonight. She said she could cut my son's hair like a picture we showed her from one of their books at the front. It's the new style the boys have been wearing with a part line shaved into the hair. It's a hit or miss here. To be honest, I came back hoping to see the hairdresser I got the last time. She really listened to me well and I got the haircut I was expecting. Unfortunately, she wasn't working when I went today. She told me she works every Sunday. Perhaps, she moved elsewhere, I don't know. It's just unfortunate for me. Today was a sad day. I told my hairdresser (Sherry) that I wanted the same haircut as last time and trim off an inch from the longest portion and go from there. I showed her a picture of where my hairstyle was copied from as reference and I also showed her a picture of a model with full bangs that were up to the eyebrows. But alas! More than two inches were cut off and not even the same style as before now. And my bangs...? Cut off ABOVE the eyebrows! Imagine Dora. I'm so salty, I had to write a review. I knew mid way that I won't be getting the haircut I envisioned to get. I didn't say anything because I didn't want her to chop my hair even more. While my head feels lighter because a lot of hair was cut off, I was also sad at the same time because I was growing it out for months.... At the end of it all, at least I didn't get off the chair with a bob. Silver lining? Maybe. After all that, I left a $2 tip. Upon seeing the receipt I signed with a $2 tip, the hairdresser just walked away without saying anything, not even a "bye" or a "thank you". Normally, I get a haircut (every 4 weeks on the DOT) and pay $70-$100 because I'm incredibly scared of anything less than amazing. That's not to say I won't give other salons, of any size, a try. That's why I decided to visit this Great Clips. My hair was incredibly thick, bulky and felt like a mop on my head. Usually, my hair is textured with long layers and face framing. Very easy. If I had the materials to do it, I would. This great clips had wonderful reviews and I even got a stylist who had BEAUTIFUL hair. Mine isn't beautiful anymore. I went in and waited 30 minutes just to be passed twice by other people who arrived after me (I signed in with a stylist just in case online check in was not working). A third person almost cut in front of me but, thankfully, the stylist noticed me reading and asked if I was on the list (hint: I was). I showed her my hair and I'm sure I heard a small gasp. Yes, my heart dropped at this and I should have went home knowing it was a lot of work but I REALLY needed this. My hair is my crown and it was seriously suffering. The entire time she was cutting, I had to look away. I wanted to cry. I know the proper techniques and it was all wrong. When I gave direction with what I wanted, I felt insulted as if I was taking up too much of her time. I nearly died when she started to thin my hair. It's what I wanted but you are supposed to TWIST and thin the hair so it graduates!!! Instead, she took thick chunks (without even looking at my hair's layer structure) and CHOMPED thick pieces out. How awful. On the way out the door, I kept pulling my fingers through my hair and THICK CLUMPS kept falling out. She never brushed my hair out so when I had asked for more layers to be cut, it was because I was under the assumption that it was still thick. NO, she just never brushed out the already cut hair!! So now I'm nearly bald in the back. Now I'm stuck with a three- layer, bald back-headed block hair cut. I certainly don't feel like a women, empowered or even beautiful. I will never be returning to this establishment for the sheer reason that the customer service was lacking (from multiple stylists.) I walked in when no one was waiting, one stylist with a customer. 10 minutes later another fat woman comes in and waits in line behind me until the stylist notices us and asks me if I checked in online and I said no. The screen shows who checks in and it was blank, but after a minute the list shows a name, because the fat woman overheard and checked in right behind me. She got to go first because of that, although I walked in and waited 10 minutes before she did. Employees should know better, they can look up at the screen to see if there's any check-ins online and probably knew that fat woman check in on the spot, but still took her in first. I desperately needed a hair cut. Actually, just a little trim. Being a momma of two was taking its toll. I had split, brittle ends and haven't had a cut since October. Just so happened I was at the shopping center getting coffee and had a half an hour or so to spare. It was New Years Eve and each station had a client. All males kids and adults getting "clipped". I was a little weary but like I said I really needed a cut. I was placed on a wait list. A monitor on the counter showed me my place in line. I was quickly called and seated in the first station in the front. I wish I remembered the gals name but she was Asian with short hair and glasses. I told her to cut off the dead ends and to try to follow my previous cut if possible. 15 minutes and $5.99 plus tip later I was done. I was satisfied with my cut. Just know that it's no frills- No shampoo or style. I would recommend this place for kids and males. If your a female they do offer other services too. This is a chain salon with fun promos. I overheard another stylist telling another client to get on the mailing list for coupons and things. My stylist did not put me on the mailing list. However, I checked out the website and there is a sign up (for promos) and you even can check in online. I also read if you get a cut on Veterans Day you get a card to pass on to a veteran for a free cut. In the end, it's a convenient place for a cut. Also if you go during a promotional period (like now) it's deals. I wouldn't visit for a whole new do but just for a quick trim. read more

My son likes coming here instead of going to the barber shop on post. He thinks they can't cut his hair on post they only know one way...military cut...haha. Well on this trip I think even the barber shop on post could have done a much better job than what he received.
