I used to love going here but not so much anymore. Every time I go in for a simple oil change you can count on them trying to upswell something. It could be as small as a filter and as large as some complete flush type thing warranting me to spend a hundred or more dollars than I wasn't planning to spend. Then the omission of coupons. I only come when I have a coupon. I don't see those anymore and when I come with a Grease Monkey coupon from another store you're hoping they are in a good mood. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I don't feel they have my best interests in mind. They look at my vehicles (and I bring in many) as deposits into their account rather than a person coming in for service. A lot has changed. The employees are knowledgeable and friendly. They will always recommend maintenance that you may want to get done, but are never pushy about it. They get the job done quickly while still being super thorough. Last time I was here, I needed an inspection, brake test, and oil change, so I was planning on waiting a bit. To my dismay, there were six people in front of me when I got there, but they came through and had me outta there in just under an hour. My dad always changed his own oil growing up, so I know how to do it. But I work 70 hr weeks and don't have time for that. So I've been going to Jiffy Lube and been decently pleased. Got home early one day, 5:00 pm so I decided to go get a much needed oil change. My wife had to leave for school at 6:00. So I swung by the old jiffy and they had a 45 minute wait just to get in. Now I'm not trying to be hard on them but that wasn't going to work. I started going from the American Fork one to the Lindon one to test my luck and on the way I saw Grease Monkey, with only one car in line. So I pulled in quick and they ran out to me, and pulled me right in an open bay! Got a good oil change, all my fluids filled, tires checked and corrected (with permission) and all systems checked. Got a new air filter, floors vacuumed, and out of there in 25 minutes! They were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. It doesn't seem like they only have one guy knows what he's doing and the others are learning. Nope. They got a good system and it works! That's where I'm going every time now! Thanks Grease Monkey! I'm also a customer who has been coming to this grease monkey in pleasant grove for 5 years. Ive always had a good experience; so good, that I live in Spanish fork, but still drive 30 minutes to get an oil change at grease monkey. I'm in and out out super fast, free soda and popcorn, it's great. But just the other day, I went in for an oil change, and one of the employees came out and told me I needed a new serpentine belt. This same emplloyee had actually told me that on a previous visit as well. I held off on fixing it right then, and decided to call around for quotes the next day. I went to watts automotive in American fork to get it replaced, I pull in to the bay, the worker pops the hood, looks at the belt, and says "there's nothing wrong with your serpentine belt." Surprised, I explain to him that grease monkey told me there were cracks in it. I come around to the front so the worker can show me the belt itself. No cracks. Grateful i don't have to spend $70-80 right then, I decided to drive over to grease monkey to try to understand their side. I get there, and that particular employee is not there at the moment, but the manager is. So I tell him what happened,, he looks at the belt with a flashlight and says "yeah you've got a couple weather marks on the top here but it's hard to say whether or not you need to replace it."....I told him that I was frustrated for wasteing my morning and that I felt it was a dishonest attempt at upselling me, and he said "I've seen cars towed in here with serpentine belts that originally looked fine, but cracked, and I've seen other cars towed in here with completely destroyed serpentine belts." I think it's a bunch of BS. I think they were trying to take advantage of my business and naivety towards auto mechanics. My husband took our vehicle here for an oil change and to check the transmission fluid. Grease Monkey was aware they couldn't check the fluid levels and just filled the transmission with fluid. They over filled it and damaged our transmission. We ended up having to take it somewhere else for them to drain the transmission and refill it. It costed us way to much money and they're refusing to give us a refund because they said my husband told them the transmission had "prior issues," which he never said. Grease Monkey sucks and we're reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. read more

They have the stickers there for you to you register your car for state & emissions, so it cut the time I would need to go down to the city and do that. I was just about to write a negative review, based on what they initially told me about my car needing synthetic oil only. I took their word for it, but didn't necessarily believe it. While waiting for them to work on my car, I did a little research and found that my car could take conventional oil. I was pretty mad that they would try to upsell the synthetic, convincing me that I couldn't use conventional. I was going to complain about it, when one of the technicians came into the waiting room and told me that I could use conventional. If I could give Grease Monkey in Pleasant Grove a ZERO star rating I would. Having used this location in the past for oil change and car washes, I have had nothing major to complain about except the expected replacement air filter or wiper offers (it is amazing how almost every visit has one or more things should be replaced in addition to the replacement work I do from home). My latest visit to Grease Monkey in Pleasant Grove makes it my last visit. Attempting to have my car's registration taken care of upon completing a safety and emissions check, I ran into a major problem. As far as the car goes, the emissions passed with flying colors. The safety check had a few things, which happens and I am fine with. The biggest concern was with "loose steering" as it was referred too. The technician said there was "too much play" and referred to the actual parts in the suspension that needed to be replaced. Fine, I knew it would cost a few hundred bucks, but that's life when owning a car. I took the GMC Yukon XL to a front-end specialist shop to have it checked out and to fix what needed to be fixed. Upon their inspection, the parts the Grease Monkey tech referred to were just fine, however there were was another part that was worn and causing the loose steering. Okay, $360 later, the new parts were in place and the Yukon drove noticeably better. Back to Grease Monkey so we can get things finished off. Surprise. The technician reviews the vehicle again and says - nope, your steering and suspension still has a problem. "What?" Showing him the receipt from the very recent repair, I said that we just took it to a suspension expert who looked everything over and found and fixed the problem. The technician then referred to himself as the "Safety Expert" said that there was still a problem. Crouching down by the tire that he has lifted off the ground he tried to show me the play by shaking the tire. Long story short - after returning to the suspension shop and talking with them, I ended up having to make an appoint with the UHP person who oversees the inspections in Utah county (it should also be said that the people at the shop guessed that I must have taken my car over to Grease Monkey in Pleasant Grove - - seriously, without any indication by me). At the appoint the UHP person was shown the work that was done and shown by the suspension experts that the technician at Grease Monkey was fundamentally checking the suspension incorrectly (you can't just lift a side of the car up to see, you must get under the car to test what they claimed). The UHP person reviewed and passed the Yukon's safety and asked if he could take the rejected paperwork with him so he could talk with Grease Monkey. Customer service was my issue here. The technician was very arrogant (so was the second tech brought over to help defend the claim). Having tried to do all that they asked to correct the problems with the vehicle the tech were unwilling to bend on the parts that they though I needed to replace. This situation could have easily be resolved if the tech was willing to even talk with the suspension place I took the car to, but not only was he unwilling, but he claimed authority by saying, "Well. I am the Safety Expert". If he would have made a little effort to understand where I was coming from - just having paid $360 to a trusted expert (my family and friends have used this person several times) to fix a problem he may have tried to see if he could have been wrong. Instead I received no understand, just a - Nope, that didn't work . . ., he then proceeded to tell me that he could get me the parts I needed for $180. I might be mistaken, but there may be fishing for some more money. I should not have had to go to the length I had to in order to resolve this situation. Note: To Grease Monkey's credit, the manager called after the UHP person made their visit, apologizing for the terrible customer service, admitting to the need for their technicians to be better trained. I guess that effort does merit 1 star. read more

Getting an oil change is usually a painful experience: show up to a long line of cars, eventually be greeted by a greedy worker, go sit in a crowded smelly waiting room, have the worker come in and tell you you'll be a bad car owner if you don't replace every fluid and filter on your car immediately, and leave an hour later and poorer. While Grease monkey has some unavoidable aspects similar to any oil change place, you'll find it to be different in a lot of key ways! -The service is excellent. The staff is patient, understanding, and educational (but never puts pressure on you to buy expensive oil, etc). You will be helped promptly, and even when it's busy you'll usually be done within half an hour. -The smelly waiting room has free soft drinks, coffee, cocoa, and popcorn. It also has a TV and magazines. In addition, the location also shares a parking lot with a grocery store and several restaurants if you'd prefer to wait elsewhere. -Free car wash! Yep, with any service you get a free car wash. -All other maintenance services are also fast and reliable, as the staff are all well educated and competent. Safety and Emissions, transmission fluid changes, taillight repairs, etc are all quick and relatively inexpensive. Grease monkey is the best car maintenance shop I've ever been to! read more

I had a break inspection done at Jiffy Lube and they told me that my front two break pads were completely cracked and needed to be replaced. Before paying the $150 and having it done, I brought my car to Grease Monkey for a second opinion. I had barely waited 5 minutes before they brought me out to show me that my break pads were completely fine and didn't need to be replaced. I will never take my car anywhere else again. They checked my car and charged me for filling the oil and putting extra, claiming my car needed more. I've come here a few times and they've always been reasonable. The mechanics will sometimes even have me come back and look at my car so they can show me what's going on. Recently I needed to get my brakes changed and I already had some spare rotors at home (really nice, Brembo brand). I called Jake's Automotive and asked how much it would cost if I already had rotors and they told me they don't use parts that customers bring. Only gave 1 star cause I did end up getting my oil changed. The last time I brought my car here they didn't put the coolant cap back on right and half my coolant leaked out. This time I asked them very nicely to please be sure to put the cap back on tight cause of what happened last time. A few minutes later the guy calls me into the shop to show me that my coolant cap is worn out and won't fit right and when I said it wasn't you just need to push down on it before you try screwing it in the guy started copping an attitude with me. Cut me off several times when I tried to speak to tell me I need to replace the coolant tank. I just turned around and went back into the waiting room. I've had my car serviced before at other places and this is the only one that seems to have an issue with getting the cap back onto the coolant tank. This location could learn to have better customer service for sure. read more

My windshield wiper fluid was not working so I asked if they could check it while they were doing the oil change. They told me they would. When they came to the waiting room for the "upsell" I asked a different technician if they checked my washer fluid. "Not yet" he replied as he told me the benefits of the high mileage oil. 20 minutes later when they went to ring me up, I again asked about the washer fluid. Apparently, despite me telling 2 different technicians, they never got the word to check it. They pulled the car back into the bay, and told me the motor was broken and they could not fix that. I paid and left.. I took the car to another mechanic. The motor was not broken but the hoses were just clogged. He blew out the hoses with air and it did the trick. I realize Grease Monkey is not a repair shop but I wish I would have just got to a mechanic in the first place and saves me the extra aggravation. read more
