We stopped here on one of our adventures. They had some of the best barbecue we here had since moving to Louisiana. The homemade bread was also delicious. The portions were generous. We've been buying Smoked Ham from Grayson's for many years & they are The Very Best ! This visit, we decided to order the Mixed Plate...Chipped Brisket, Ham & perfectly Smoked Rib with "dang good" Potato Salad , Baked Beans & Homemade sliced Sour Dough Bread. Everything was spot-on delicious! I like ordering their great BBQ sauce on the side. We ordered 2 lbs of Ham to go, along with 2 bags of their yummy Ginger Cookie Bars & 1 bag of Chocolate Cookie Bars! The Food is truly unforgettable & the ambience is a plain "ole school" Louisiana BBQ House! I'm lookin' forward to our next visit to Grayson's BBQ! Thanks again, Joshua! Three stars is really being pretty generous in my opinion, or maybe I've just been spoiled by checking out really good barbecue places. Our waitress did a very good job. She's really the only reason that's better than a one or two star review. The place is older, but I didn't mind the hole in the wall feel. It was the food that really let me down. Hit and miss. Heard about this place from a coworker who said it was the go-to spot for bbq. I went there the moment i got into town in February. It was horrid. The tables were sticky, bar area was dim and not well lit. The place kind of looked beat up. Not sure if that was meant to add to the allure or not.... The meat was dry, the potato salad tasted sour...i was disgusted. We had a vendor about two months later buy us all lunch. I devoured it, after i got done eating it all, i asked where it was from and was told Grayson's. So my second chance was much different. Came back again hesitantly. I went in Grayson BQQ Today 1-10-23 to get 3 Rib Plates to take home and they was over cooked and hard to chew. The last time we went to Grayson we ate there and it was good. But the few times before that we ordered out took it home and it was bad. Over cooked and hard to chew. So I think they are giving the hard over cooked Ribs to people that is doing take out. With family that grew up in the area who doesn't know about Grayson's BBQ. All their BBQ and sides are delicious, including their homemade brownies. I especially love the chopped sandwiches. I give that 5 stars. For years we have been purchasing their Christmas hams, even after we moved away. About 4 or 5 years ago something was different about the hams. Stopped by on my way from Baton Rouge to Shreveport, even though it was a little out of the way. Exiting my car, I was immediately greeted with the heavenly aroma of smoked meats. When I entered, I was a little confused about where/how to place my order, so I just walked over to the counter where two female employees were chopping meat and sat down at a stool. One of them, without even turning around, asked what I wanted. I ordered 2 "chip" sandwiches -- one pork, one ham -- and an order of slaw. About 2 minutes later she handed me the bag with my order. In the meantime, a line had formed behind me, and they all seemed to be ordering ham -- 2 pounds, 3 pounds -- so I figured it must be good. When I went to pay for my order I noticed bags of chocolate cookies on the rack, along with a jar of Norris cane syrup. Paid and went to my car, where I unwrapped my first sandwich (pork) and took a bite... pure awesomeness. The ham sandwich (that I ate later) was even better, and the saw was great as well. The cookies were a little chewy and at first I didn't think much of them, but on the ride home I ate the whole bag. I loved this place, but unfortunately this was only the 2nd time in the 30+ years I've lived in Louisiana that I've been in this area. You can bet that if I'm ever around here again, I'll be back. Can't believe Grayson's is still going strong. I was a student at Northwestern in the early 1960s and loved going here for BBQ. Over the years have stopped here traveling through. I was taken here by some lifetime locals; I can't say I would have picked it from the outside look, and I might have turned around and ran once I entered the place, except for the great BBQ aroma. This place defines hole-in-the-wall, because they literally pass the meats from the cooker outside through a hole in the wall in the kitchen. Oh, that and the door to the men's room had a hole the size of a baseball through it where a previous lock was located. Service was friendly and quick. They only have canned soft-drinks (and no liquor) AND NO ICED TEA!! How hard is it to brew tea?!? I almost took a star off except the BBQ really is that good. This place does a booming take out business. In fact, all of the meats are sold by the pound with separate sides - there are no "plates" or combo meals. I followed the lead of one of our local friends and ordered a ham sandwich on a homemade bun. You MUST try a homemade bun - I do not know why they even have an option for a regular bun (except that it is cheaper). I also tried beans and potato salad ... In the same bowl! It's basically like the half and half soup idea and was quite tasty. Overall, I am giving this place a great review because of uniqueness and the food. One last point, they have no BBQ sauce on the table. When my coworker was served his beef sandwich, he looked around for sauce and decided to try it without. The Chip beef is always the best on Homemade buns. Get there early before they run out of Homemade buns. The Wife loves the Ham. I've been goin here for over 40 years and it's always consistent. The Ribs are good and the beef. At Thanksgiving and Christmas you can order Smoked Hams. Call a week or 2 in advance. They sell out quick. This is a must stop for me, either on my way to Red River Parish or beyond (usually Saint Francisville and Lake Rosemound!)...Hit this place on Good Friday evening at 7pm, starving and thrilled to see they were keeping regular Friday night hours (open til 8pm!)
