It was very good, but I'm not sure it was worth the half hour drive from Tillamook. I think our tummies would've been just as happy somewhere in town. The drive was pretty, though, and if your destination is Pacific City, do stop! In our case, we were headed to Coos Bay from Tillamook so it was a worthwhile detour! We like Mom and Pop style diners when we're on the road and this fits right in. The ambiance is cozy. It's a converted older home and has enclosed "outside" dining. I read so much great reviews on this place and it was my husband and I first time visiting Pacific City. We decided to grab something before lunch. Pastries were offered at the drive thru only, according to the sign at their front entrance. I'm not a big fan of scones, until I had the "lemon raspberry" scone from Grateful Bread. It was moist, fresh and YUMM-oh!! My husband had the chocolate and almond scone and he enjoyed it as well. Next time, I'll try their cookies and their food. Last time I came here I said "I am never coming back here" because the service is so slow. Gave them another shot. We showed up early. Waited in line. Wow, what a great little place to grab a bite! They have some incredible food and the coffee is something else. They brew it in a special manner. Love that they also have Mimosas. I had the Cod sandwich and it was GREAT! Could use some more salt so if you get it make sure to dash it up. My GF had the chicken salad sandwich. Can't wait to try the French toast! read more

Don't let your dislike of the Grateful Dead keep you from enjoying this place. Despite the tie dye and Grateful Dead imagery this place has amazing food (don't worry the quiet background music is also not the Grateful Dead)! My Bay Shrimp Omelette came with healthy portions of shrimp, and well cooked asparagus and mushrooms. The potatoes were great and the biscuit on point. Don't waste your time with other places in Pacific City. Can't speak to their non-breakfast items but imagine they are just as good and likely cheaper and healthier than other local options. Bonus: the bakery has a Grateful Grub program that you can donate to and help feed needy families in the community. read more

Really enjoyed this place. It's a small, welcoming bakery and cafe in a small, welcoming coastal town. My gf and I walked through the drive through since indoor dining wasn't available due to COVID. We each got hot sandwiches and homemade cookies for takeaway. Food was quite nice, but the staff was even nicer. Wouldn't recommend if you're in a hurry, as the staff are so friendly they spend lots of time making conversation with each costumer, many of which are regulars. read more

Came here from out of town to explore Cape Kiwanda. Stopped here for a quick lunch and thought it was fine. I ordered the "Two Dory Caught Fish Tacos" ($12.95). This was okay. The biggest thing was just that the fish was bland / unseasoned. The pineapple slaw was fresh. The chipotle cream was so mild I didn't realize there was chipotle in it until I looked at the menu while writing this review. The saving grace was the "Costa Rican" rice and beans, which were flavorful and tasty. To be fair, as my boyfriend pointed out, people don't normally go to a bakery to get fish tacos, but it was on their "favorites" list on the menu so I thought it would be a special of theirs. My boyfriend, on the other hand, ordered their "Friend of the Devil" scramble ($12.95) which he loved. I tried this and agree that their combination of spicy sausage, chiles, peppers, and herbs was spot on. Their biscuits had the perfect crumb and went well with their butter and jam. Drip coffee was $1 with free refills which is a great deal. And it was tasty coffee too. Service was friendly. Bathrooms were clean. Our breakfast (omelette, stellar blue scramble with biscuits) was as good as we've enjoyed anywhere in the US plus a can't-believe-we've-never-seen-this-before experience in their "gingerbread pancakes" (described by the waitress as "tastes like eating Christmas"). We came in without a reservation. They said it would be a short wait. Another couple came in a few minutes later (also no reservations and told the same thing). The people behind us were seated almost immediately and we waited another 7ish minutes. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and "box of rain" which is just a scramble with some veggies. It took a good 30 minutes to come out and both of our meals were bland. We also ordered some cookies scones and a muffin to take home. All of those were just okay as well. The coffee is super weak too. I'm convinced that if there was any competition in this town, this restaurant would not be held in such high regard. If you really like bland diner breakfast, you'll probably be really impressed, but if you regularly eat at smaller boutique places, you will be disappointed. The great name brought us in. Never a bad meal. I'll actually detour here if I'm on my way to Lincoln City because this place cannot be beat!. Most of the menu has vegetarian and gluten-free options. Yes, this place is very popular! Be prepared for a long wait time, and the knowledge that the wait is well worth it. Customer service is great, the ladies know all the locals. Personally, I love the Sunrise baguette, and the slaw that it comes with is mayo-free! The pastries are just as, if not better than the meal. I've been here 2-3 times and always hope it's better, but it never is. The place is very popular so I'm sure many like it, and I will say their biscuits are delicious and that's why I gave this 3 stars. But for my taste, their egg dishes are really undercooked (wet/runny eggs which I don't like), and their sausage is never browned (it looks grey, which I find extremely unappetizing). Their bacon is good but very very greasy and not very crispy. I do like their potatoes, which are nice and browned and have good flavor. Their Omelettes are the kind that are "folded," so the egg on the inside is runny and the ingredients folded in aren't cooked. So, if you like runny eggs, grey sausage, and folded over Omelettes-this is your place. If you're like me and like fluffy eggs, browned sausage, and Omelettes with cooked ingredients, this is not the place for you. They do have a lot of dishes with veggies and had a few vegan dishes too. If I had to go here again I'd try their French toast, which looked amazing, and might be higher quality since they are a bakery at their core. read more

Wow! We just got some breakfast take out and we couldn't have asked for better! First, the person who assisted us was super friendly and then brought it out for curbside service when we arrived. She waited until she saw us through the window to pour our coffees so they were piping hot! We got a breakfast special with scrambled eggs, oven baked potatoes and biscuits. Oven baked potatoes are usually not my favorite but these were seasoned perfectly and very tasty. Scrambled eggs and biscuits were also good. And the coffee was delicious! The pro move here is to get a scone to tide you over while you wait for your food to be served - and it's worth the wait! This Grateful Dead themed cafe makes excellent, flavorful scrambles and satisfyingly fresh sandwiches on good, grainy, hippie-style bread. A lot of their fish (in the tuna salad, for example) is locally caught, and while the vegetables aren't all local, their salad dressings are home made. They also had the best chocolate chip cookie I've had in about as long as I can remember. In an area where really good restaurants are a bit thin on the ground, it makes sense that this friendly cafe has a wait - even on a weekday in the off season. read more

Sorely disappointed. We hadn't eaten here since Covid. Well, I survived the pandemic thus far but this place has joined the ranks of the walking wounded. Service was very slow, our order came out wrong and the prices were too high-for the quality of food and preparation. I do recognize that all service industries are struggling to hire staff but I always maintained that a truly good meal on the Oregon coast is hard to find. Guess I'm still looking. e read more

When I start the drive down to pacific city I'm already day dreaming about a pastry baked by these guys. As a glutoid it's hit or miss if they will have anything I can have but when they do omg is it bomb! Further more if u know ahead of time that your going to be here the following day you can reserve a gluten free scone! They even asked me what kind Id like! What?! We were wondering around the small community of Pacific City looking for a spot to eat breakfast when we came across Grateful Bread. The Friend of The Devil breakfast scramble was outstanding, it was the perfect mixture of flavors, definitely going again tomorrow to try the Fire On The Mountain scramble. During our late breakfast I saw items from their lunch menu being served and they looked so good. The bread and baked goods are made in house and the homemade jam was great. I could go on and on about Grateful Bread, after eating a lot of meals traveling and usually just going through the motions of eating this was a pleasant surprise. We were searching for a new breakfast place on the coast after the Otis cafe got burnt down. We are so happy we discovered Grateful Bread. While we were waiting we got scones which were to die for!!!! Best scones ever! The staff was out of their way nice!! We had Stela Blue scramble and Farmer's omelette and both were incredible.
