I couldn't do it! I couldn't commit to a permanent piece of jewelry affixed to my body. But I…read moredidn't need to because, despite the name, Rustic Charm Permanent Jewelry also sells regular jewelry that you can take off. So if you're into permanent jewelry (mostly bracelets and anklets), then this is the place to visit in Nashville. But if you're wishy-washy like I am, you can find a cute little bracelet with a clasp like I did. This is a custom jewelry place, so you're making lots of decisions once you step inside. Do you want permanent or removable? Bracelet or anklet? Gold or silver? What style of chain do you want (they have several)? What charms (if any)? After you make your decisions, then the bracelet or anklet gets sized to you. If you're going the permanent route, then your jewelry gets welded shut without a clasp. You get to wear cool glasses if you want to watch while they weld, or you can look away. If you're getting a removable piece of jewelry, they will size it to you and then weld the clasp on the chain. I am a pretty decisive person, so the whole process, from start to finish, took maybe 15 minutes. But I imagine if you're visiting with a group, or if you're less decisive than I am, you can be here a while. That's why they take appointments, which you can book online at their website. I love my bracelet from Rustic Charm! I've only taken it off twice since I got it more than a month ago. It has become a signature piece of jewelry that is now a part of my right wrist.

I am extremely disappointed with the service and craftsmanship at Gold Casters. I brought my…read moreengagement ring here for repairs three times, and the quality of work has been subpar every single time. The first time it was brought here to be resized, as it was my mother in laws ring. They resized it, 5 months later, the solder completely snapped off. They said they would re-solder it. 6 WEEKS later, it snapped again. I took it back, they said silver is not good for "longevity", daily wear etc... again, it had been SIX WEEKS; I don't shower, sleep, work etc with it on. Only then did they encourage a half shank (thicker material for a "permanent" fix.) Only, the ring is still visibly uneven with a noticeable seam left behind. Instead of properly identifying structural issues from the start, they offered quick, band-aid fixes and even tried to quote me $250 for work that should have been caught initially. Save yourself the stress and take your fine jewelry to a jeweler who actually stands by their work.

One of the owners (I know he's an owner, because I've seen their cheezy TV ads) walked by me and gave me a disgusted up and down look, as if to suggest I wasn't properly attired to be in their store! If I were ever stepping foot in that place again, I'd certainly make a point to wear my finest! But, of course, I will never go back there and I discourage anyone else from shopping there.

The prices are reasonable for the quality of work. This store is run by a non-profit artist organization, The Pillar Group. There's another similar shop at College Mall in Bloomington, where Victoria's Secret once stood past Target. The art is diverse and has a local and Indiana theme to it. While most jewelry is focused towards women, there are a few pieces of men's gear. It has the feel of a gift shop, and indeed there are greeting cards, and wrapping available for purchases. It's a very wide variety of handmade art, and it's all well-presented. I'm embarrassed how much I've purchased here; the values are pretty good for what I look for. Parking is downtown-crappy, but the store is bright and easy to shop.

Another benefit of getting out to explore your community is finding a business you didn't know was there and you are pleasantly surprised by what you find. Kind of like finding a hidden treasure! My wife was shopping next door inside Tivoli Fashions in the Fountain Square Mall just south of the county courthouse in Bloomington. Since the shopping she was doing had nothing to do with me, I wandered out into the mall and found By Hand Gallery just across the hallway. If you enjoy looking at hand crafted items like wall hangings, ceramics, and small items that can be gifts for either your friends or for yourself. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and asked if I needed any assistance. Even when I explained that I only stopped in to pass time while my wife shopped next door, he said he understood and to feel free to browse and ask questions. I was feeling welcomed, not watched or like I was wasting his time. That's good business. I really enjoyed looking over the items. I don't do a lot of decorating in our home, but I did see things here that I thought would look nice. I didn't make any purchases at this time, but the items I looked at seemed of good quality and worth considering coming back for. Review #3911
