I found Randy's Lakeview Nursery and Stone in Lee's Summit. It's a beautiful facility near Lake Jacomo, It is a brown wooden barn and cute. In the back there's piles of different rocks, different sizes. They allowed me to hand pick what I needed, and I paid for it at the cash register. They also have a plant area and beautiful metal work. Landscaping rocks are their specialty. They also deliver locally, which is good to know, not many places do. There's no where in Independence that does this sort of service and have landscaping rocks available. I selected Missouri River Pebbles and will return when I need more.

It is very interactive because they have a lot of the basic and advanced hydroponic systems all set up and growing all kinds of lettuces , herbs, and tomatoes. I've been following Colonial Gardens on social media for a while and they have some fun events . I…read morefinally made it to one, plant bingo. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was so fun, that I attended a second time in the same month. The event is held in their greenhouse, which makes the perfect backdrop for this event. You play three rounds of bingo with three cards each round, and each game has one plant prize, so one winner. There's a Plant Bar serving cocktails and popcorn, plus a coffee shop on site with small bites available during the event. Jessica, the events coordinator, is friendly and fun. After all games are played you have time to shop. I went during January and there wasn't an abundance of plants and flowers, but I'm looking forward to spring to check out the greenhouse when it is blooming.

I had occasion today to visit Heartland Nursery this morning. I have heard from a number of people…read morethat they are essentially "out of inventory" as they plan sell their business around the June time frame. I was shocked when I saw how much inventory they have in stock. I had occasion to speak with Sam the owner and told him that I kept hearing from people that they were essentially out of stock. He said to me they have more inventory this year than they have had in the history of the company. He was very kind given the circumstances. The items we purchased were marked down 25%.  I just wanted to relay this to let you know that their nursery is robust, and Sam stated they have plenty more inventory coming in!!!

When I Really Need a Hardware Store!…read more Living exactly one mile from a Home Depot it is pretty logical for me to head there when I need something for a home project. But when I really need something that is critical to finishing a project or a home emergency (like a specific size washer, actual plumbing supplies, or even the correct "bit" for my rotary tool) I go the extra mile to Westlake Ace Hardware. No, it is not a "home center" it is a "hardware" store! It shares a large parking lot in a strip mall on MO 291 North, across from the Lee's Summit Historic Cemetery. You are welcomed in through their large assortment of out door plants just outside of the door, and a serious selection of high quality grills and BBQ supplies, then the really "important" stuff lies behind that. Row after row of hardware! Not the prepackaged assortments of washers, screws, hinges, but individual washers, screws and hinges! Come on, do you really need a dozen 10 mm bolts or just one to get your back on the road? Or how about that spacer for your envisioned improvement to your lawn tractor? And then is the replacement rotary switch for your custom headboard going to be found in the plastic bagged parts of a normal home center? If there is any doubt, Westlake Ace Hardware usually has it, and staff that understands you pain and where to find the cure. From replacement door keys, to the proper paint brushes to use with the special paint you finally found for that perfect room color, Westlake has always come through with either what I needed or a recommendation for a replacement item that might work better or is lower in cost. I know that when I go there I am not looking for fancy packaging, but the "thing" I need. Westlake is my port-in-the storm, and sometimes my salvation when I am at a loss to finish that important project - and at a reasonable cost
