When, after waiting 2 more weeks, and not being called back as promised, I was told I would have to wait until the end of July to have my work done! I guess you can run a business this way if you have so many repairs scheduled that losing some here and there due to horrible customer service simply just doesn't matter.

I called other companies in the area in advance to schedule the work but nobody was able to fit me in. The contractors the. moved up our project a couple weeks which was exciting...but now i was pressed to find someone in short notice. I found Van Kal's listing via google, and called on the Friday before the scheduled Dig on The coming Monday. Eric (owner) answered and said he would be over first thing Monday morning to assess the situation, just three days later! No foss. Monday morning at 6:45 he was in my driveway and assessed the situation. I remember him saying - "It's going to look scary with pipes sticking up all over but I'll take care of everything!" With the cement scheduled to be poured this week, Eric was back today and he did what he promised. He reviewed each line, opened each to assess any concerns, traced the wires to identify the valves to isolate, closed off the impacted lines, corrected some additional issues and fixed some damaged heads. We all know the type of people that we want to do work around our homes. Those that plan to do the right thing and then make sure it's done the right way. Eric is the independent business owner who has this work ethic and it shows from the moment you speak with him until the job is completed. And he isn't going to soak you with a huge bill either. Is this how they normally great new customers!? I asked if I had the right number and he confirmed. He then asked who I was and I told him I was a customer looking to get a quote for a drainage problem on my property. I then told him that based on the way he handled the call that I would be looking to get the quote from someone else. He then said "Maybe you should do that bro" and hung up on me. In addition, I had contracted with the for snow removal but the driver would cause damage to my lawn. Each time that I mentioned that to DeYoung, as required by my contract, the driver damaged even more of my lawn, ignoring markers and driving an entire truck length into my lawn. I decided to give notice to cancel the snow removal contract and look elsewhere for that portion of my service. Today I attempted to submit my summer contract for lawn mowing. I had signed a contract in the fall for landscaping this year. My e-mail was returned stating that DeYoung had chosen to not honor my contracts and to cease services. Why - because I let them know that their snow plow operator damaged my lawn, as required in my contract, and let them know that I was not happy? In my opinion, they were unprofessional and didn't honor their own contract requirements and were malicious in cancelling the contracts because of an issue caused by them. Maybe the nephew who took over the business needs more experience and lessons learned. To be clear, the landscaping and lawn mowing crews were amazing.
