Although I…read moregenerally love the idea of wild camping, it is nice to have access to the facilities such as showers and kitchens that formal campsites offer. The Rainbow Hostel comprises a large building with dorms and private rooms, but also space for tents (€10 pppn). We chose this latter option, which still includes access to showers, kitchen, and electricity. It was also nice to be able to leave our tent and gear at the site whilst we explored the town's nightlife. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The toilet and shower block was a bit dirty, unfortunately, and we were woken late at night by some very loud people in another tent. It would be nice for there to be a staff member operating at night to keep noise down so people can sleep. In an excellent perk that we only discovered at the last minute, the hostel provides a free shuttle service to connect with buses leaving from town, avoiding the need of having to hike with full pack along the main road into town. Overall, would recommend for a cheap and cheerful place to stay.

I…read moremainly stayed here because I missed being in a small village and wanted to climb Mount Brandon. To get to the village of Cloghane without a car, you can take a bus from Tralee. Or you can do what I did and hitchhike! The Irish are such warm, friendly chatty people that I highly recommend hitchhiking in Ireland. Anyway, the nearest "big" town is Dingle which is a 20-minute scenic drive, but there is no direct bus from/to there. Again, you can easily hitchhike it there or see if anyone at the hostel is going there. There is a small grocery store in town, plus a couple of pubs that serve food, however no ATMs. You may want to bring your own groceries like I did. Breakfast is included and includes different cereals including small cereal boxes for the kids, a variety of breads including soda bread (!), spreads, butter, yogurt, milk, tea, coffee--all available out in the open all day. The large kitchen has several burners, ovens, dishwasher, plenty of pots, pans, and dishes. And more impressively, french press coffee makers! The location is amazing. Right near the water. It's a shame it rains even in August, otherwise it would've been a nice place to hang out and have a meal. The best way to reserve your room or bed is to call directly. You can book online through Hostelbookers.com but noticed the price was a bit more there. The 4-bed female dorm room included an ensuite bathroom. It was on the small side so can be crowded with everyone's backpacks lying around. No worries since I spent most of my time in the common area. There were other shower and toilet facilities in case someone was using the ensuite bathroom. The common room was such a nice place to hang out especially after a day of hiking. So comfortable and cozy! During my 3 days, there were several families, a few couples, and a group of German girls who were doing the Dingle Way. The staff is great. After hiking Mount Brandon, my shoes, socks, everything got wet. One of the staff members helped me dry my shoes. Then I got my laundry done which was finished fast by European standards since they have a dryer! Mary, the owner, ended up waiving the €5 laundry charge since I stayed 3 days! Highly recommend this place if you want to get away from the cities and experience Irish hospitality in a small town. And of course, climb Mount Brandon.

This hostel was only built and opened in 2005, and it's still in fantastic condition…read more It provides double rooms with ensuites, double rooms with shared bathrooms, family rooms (double bed and bunks), twin rooms, and 'dorm' rooms (a twin room shared with someone of the same gender). Prices were respectable, and the facilities were perfect. Access to the common areas is 24hour, constant hot water and heating in all rooms. There's a sitting room with TV, DVD player and some movies, pay internet and two large self-catering kitchen/dining areas. I also saw a payphone and there were lots of brochures in the main dining room. Rooms must be paid for on arrival and they accept cash and cards. Check-in is between 4pm and 8pm and check out is at 10am. No breakfast is provided, but there is a small foodstore, cafe and restaurants in the village. There is lots of parking and it's only a 5 minute walk to the main street of the village. There are no laundry facilities at the hostel, but I heard the community centre in the village does laundry. There's no ATM in the village, and the staff were happy to organise a trip to the Skelligs for me, which was fantastic. I'd recommend it, it was the best hostel I stayed at while I was in Ireland.

With private baths and TVs in private rooms, it's like the Taj Mahal of hostels. Fully equipped, and equally clean kitchen. Only downer is that there is no breakfast, but with cheap options in town (coffee shops and open air market), it's manageable. Conveniently located in the heart of downtown, nearby a fish and chips joint and an internet cafe next door. What else could you want?

During the day, the kitchen is used for the attached tearoom. I couldn't access the kitchen until after 7pm. In addition, the fridge and freezer were locked so I couldn't even store my food properly. Complimentary breakfast was only one piece of Tesco white bread toast and a tea. It was a bit difficult checking in since there's no reception desk, but I found the manager or owner in the kitchen after asking around. There's not much security as the entrance door and door room were unlocked at all times. The 10-bed ensuite dorm contained a bathroom. Unfortunately, the room was fully booked so there were wait times to use the restroom. The wifi was weak past the second floor. The one positive is its location in the town center. Overall, I'd recommend staying elsewhere if you're in Tralee, like the Castle Hostel ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/castle-hostel-tralee ).
